Trajectory tracking for an Ultralight WIG
2007
In this paper we present our research about a particular ultralight WIG. We have carried out the design of a Flight Control System that has to fix the control variables trend through a non-linear mathematical model, because of the particular geometric and aerodynamic configuration of this WIG. So, the non-linear mathematical model design has to reproduce exactly the aircraft behaviour either OGE or IGE. In particular, through classical semi-empirical relations, analytical equations have been obtained in order to evaluate incidence variations, downwash and upwash angles due to the ground. In the present paper only longitudinal dynamic is considered, because of its peculiarity in WIG's aircra…
Study of mycotoxin calibration approaches on the example of trichothecenes analysis from flour
2012
The aim of this study was to evaluate the applicability of different calibration approaches in trichothecenes analysis from wheat flour. Concretely eight trichothecenes (five type B trichothecenes and three type A trichothecenes) were analyzed by matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). In the first set of experiments the presence of matrix effects was evaluated; values ranged between 59% and 79%. In the second set of experiments, solutions to compensate these signal suppressions were examined. Different calibration methods showed to tackle matrix effects obtaining values between 69% and 85% for external matrix matched calibration a…
A new method to measure the size distribution of insoluble submicron particles in water
1994
Abstract In the atmosphere, cloud and fog droplets usually contain insoluble material. The role of these insoluble particles is still unknown today, and is of interest to study. To determine the size distribution and number concentration of these particles in water, different techniques are available. The instrumentation, however, to measure nanometer-sized particles down to 50 nm diameter is not known. A new instrument, the Liquid Tandem Differential Mobility Analyser (LTDMA), was developed to measure size distributions of insoluble particles in water in the size range 50–300 nm in diameter. The new method is based on nebulising, e.g. cloud water and forming a residue aerosol consisting of…
Analysis of 18 perfluorinated compounds in river waters: Comparison of high performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry, ultra-high-pe…
2012
In this work, the performance of ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) and capillary liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (CLC-MS) has been studied for the analysis of eighteen perfluorinated compounds in water samples. UHPLC-MS/MS and CLC-MS analysis were carried out using a Zorbax C-18 column (50 mm × 2.1 mm, 1.8 μm) and a Zorbax SB-C18 column (150 mm × 0.5 mm, 3.5 μm), respectively, in gradient elution mode with a mobile phase of ammonium formate and methanol. Both techniques were compared with conventional LC-MS/MS in terms of speed, sensitivity, selectivity and resolution. Water samples were extracted by solid phase extraction (SPE). Mea…
Perfluorinated Compounds in Food: A Global Perspective
2011
Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are resistant to breakdown and are turning up in unexpected places around the world, becoming emerging food contaminants. Although these chemicals have been used in countless products since the 1950s, they have been subject to little control until now. There is still an insufficient knowledge of their sources, occurrence, and hazards for food safety decision making. This article provides a comprehensive review of the food contamination levels and dietary intake risks posed by PFCs, as well as the specific methods developed for their determination. It is based on the evaluation of the published literature between 2004 and the beginning of 2010, with special em…
The application of headspace gas chromatography coupled to tandem quadrupole mass spectrometry for the analysis of furan in baby food samples.
2015
Abstract Selective methodology employing a tandem quadrupole mass spectrometer coupled to a gas chromatograph with headspace autosampler (HS-GC–MS/MS) was elaborated in this study. Application of the elaborated procedure resulted in a limit of detection of 0.021 μg kg −1 and a limit of quantification of 0.071 μg kg −1 . The mean recoveries during in-house validation ranged from 89% to 109%, and coefficients of variation for repeatability ranged from 4% to 11%. The proposed analytical method was applied for monitoring the furan content of 30 commercial baby food samples available on the Latvian retail market. The level of furan found in these samples varied from 0.45 to 81.9 μg kg −1 , indic…
Liquid chromatography‐Orbitrap Tribrid high‐resolution mass spectrometry using data dependent‐tandem mass spectrometry with triple stage fragmentatio…
2021
A new, fast, and automatic approach has been applied for the tentative identification of unknown substances released by food contact epoxy resin after performing a migration test with food simulant. This approach combines intelligent data acquisition with AcquireX linked to liquid chromatography-Orbitrap Tribrid high-resolution mass spectrometry using data dependent-tandem mass spectrometry with triple stage fragmentation coupled to Compound Discoverer™ software for automated data processing and compound identification. The identification of the observed features was performed using a set of identification criteria, including exact mass, isotope pattern, tandem mass spectrometry spectra mat…
Analysis of artificially degraded DNA using STRs and SNPs—results of a collaborative European (EDNAP) exercise
2005
Recently, there has been much debate about what kinds of genetic markers should be implemented as new core loci that constitute national DNA databases. The choices lie between conventional STRs, ranging in size from 100 to 450 bp; mini-STRs, with amplicon sizes less than 200 bp; and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). There is general agreement by the European DNA Profiling Group (EDNAP) and the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI) that the reason to implement new markers is to increase the chance of amplifying highly degraded DNA rather than to increase the discriminating power of the current techniques. A collaborative study between nine European and US laboratories…
Analysis of fumonisins in corn-based food by liquid chromatography with fluorescence and mass spectrometry detectors
2008
Abstract The presented procedure involves an extraction with methanol–water, centrifugation and cleanup with immunoaffinity columns. A comparison study between fluorescence detector, mass spectrometry, and tandem mass spectrometry with a triple quadrupole (QqQ) analyzer using an electrospray ionisation interface for the determination of fumonisin B1 and B2 in corn-based products has been performed. Limits of quantification obtained by the three detectors were lower than the maximum levels established by European Commission. Liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry provides higher sensitivity (12 μg kg−1for fumonisins B1 and B2) when compared to mass spectrometry (40 μg kg−1…
Biomonitoring of Enniatin B1 and Its Phase I Metabolites in Human Urine: First Large-Scale Study
2020
Enniatins (Enns) are mycotoxins produced by Fusarium spp. which are a fungus widely spread throughout cereals and cereal-based products. Among all the identified enniatins, Enn B1 stands as one of the most prevalent analogues in cereals in Europe. Hence, the aim of this study was to evaluate for the first time the presence of Enn B1 and its phase I metabolites in 300 human urine samples using an ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography high resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS) methodology. Enn B1 was detected in 94.3% of samples ranging from 0.007 to 0.429 ng/mL (mean value: 0.065 ng/mL). In accordance with previous in vitro and in vivo analysis, hydroxylated metabolites …
