The Presence of White Matter Lesions Is Associated With the Fibrosis Severity of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

2016

Abstract We tested whether nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and/or its histological severity are associated with vascular white matter lesions (WML) in patients with biopsy-proven NAFLD and in non-NAFLD controls. Data were recorded in 79 consecutive biopsy-proven NAFLD, and in 82 controls with normal ALT and no history of chronic liver diseases, without ultrasonographic evidence of steatosis and liver stiffness value  45 years (OR 3.09, 95% CI: 1.06–9.06, P = 0.03; and OR 11.1, 95% CI: 1.14–108.7, P = 0.03), and F2–F4 fibrosis (OR 3.36, 95% CI: 1.29–8.73, P = 0.01; and OR 5.34, 95% CI: 1.40–20.3, P = 0.01) were independently associated with WML (mostly of mild grade) by multivariate…

Peg-interferon alone or combined with ribavirin in HCV cirrhosis with portal hypertension:a randomized controlled trial

2007

Abstract BACKGROUND/AIMS: Risks and benefits of antiviral therapy in HCV cirrhosis with portal hypertension are poorly known. METHODS: We performed a randomized controlled trial in 102 HCV patients with compensated cirrhosis and portal hypertension: 51 received 1 microg/kg/week of Pegylated-interferon alpha-2b and 51 Pegylated-interferon plus 800 mg/day of ribavirin up to 52 weeks. RESULTS: By intention-to-treat analysis, five patients on monotherapy and eleven on combination therapy achieved a sustained virological response (9.8% vs. 21.6%, p=0.06). The response was more frequent for genotypes 2 or 3 than genotype 1 (66.6% vs. 11.3%, p=0.001). Genotype 1, who had low viral load at start of…

Congenital Cystic Lesions of the Bile Ducts: Imaging-Based Diagnosis

2020

Congenital cystic lesions of the bile ducts represent a spectrum of liver and biliary system lesions, resulting from abnormal embryologic development of the ductal plate. These disorders include Caroli disease, choledochal cysts, autosomal dominant polycystic liver disease, congenital hepatic fibrosis, and biliary hamartomas. Each disorder carries a peculiar clinical presentation, prognosis, and risk of complications. Knowledge of radiological findings of fibropolycystic liver diseases is crucial for their appropriate detection and for differential diagnosis with other similar hepatic cystic lesions, in order to avoid relevant misdiagnosis. The aim of this review is to provide an illustrati…

Focal liver lesions hyperintense on T1-weighted magnetic resonance images

2009

This article reviews focal liver lesions hyperintense on T1-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) images and describes the underlying etiologies associated with their T1 signal intensity. Although focal liver lesions are commonly detected because of their iso- or hypointensity on T1-weighted images, lesions (benign or malignant) may present with T1 hyperintensity when they contain T1 shortening elements--such as fat, hemorrhage, copper, melanin, and highly concentrated proteins. Our discussion includes the description of state-of-the-art T1-weighted MR sequences and the imaging features of lesions on pre- and postcontrast MR images that are characteristic for lesion composition and useful for ma…

Hepatic incidentaloma: An asymptomatic ectopic thyroid tissue

2022

An ectopic thyroid is a form of thyroid dysgenesis in which the entire thyroid gland or parts of it may be located in another part of the body than the usual place. The most frequent location is the base of the tongue. Although most cases are asymptomatic, symptoms related to tumor size and its relationship with surrounding tissues, hormonal dysfunction, and seldom malignancy may also occur. Here, we describe the case of an asymptomatic woman who was thyroidectomized 19 years previously for a toxic goiter and treated with conventional L-thyroxine therapy, until we enacted a progressive reduction of dosage of the replacement therapy. Incidentally, because of occasional abdomen discomfort, sh…

Gadolinium-chelating nanogels as MR contrast agesnts specifically targeting tumor cells

2014

Development of multifunctional nanogels coordinating paramagnetic ions and displacing targeting ligands for preferential accumulation into tumors. Low molecular-weight Gd-chelates are widely used in clinical MRI for various purposes. However, these contrast agents (CAs) have several shortcomings: they rapidly extravasate from blood vessels to the interstitial space, have a short circulation times and show poor contrast at high magnetic fields. Incorporating gadolinium into flexible nanogels has the potential of increasing intravascular half-life, accumulation and retention in specific body compartments of the CA as well as increasing the MR signal, since many metal ions can be coordinated t…

Un ulteriore risultato

2013

Hvilke betydninger kan anerkjennelse i psykomotorisk fysioterapi få for pasientens psykiske helse?

2020

Master's thesis in Psychosocial health (ME504) Background of the project: This study deals with patients in Norwegian psychomotor physiotherapy treatment. The patients have been in treatment for a long time and had a lot of physical discomfort before starting treatment. Before starting treatment, patients had little knowledge and understanding of how different life stresses could cause bodily symptoms. During treatment, they were able to see and understand the relationship between psychological distress and physical, unpleasant symptoms. Purpose and problem: The purpose of the study is first and foremost to add new knowledge in mental health work, and in the psychomotor field. The problem i…
