Xenobiotic metabolizing enzyme activities and viability are well preserved in EDTA-isolated rat liver parenchymal cells after cryopreservation
1995
Rat liver parenchymal cells (PC) were isolated by EDTA perfusion and were purified by a subsequent Percoll centrifugation. The isolated PC had a viability of 95%, as judged by trypan blue exclusion. Freshly isolated PC were cryopreserved with an optimized protocol in a computer-controlled freezer. After thawing, the PC still retained a viability of 89%. The activities of representative xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes were compared between freshly isolated and cryopreserved PC after thawing. The cytochrome P450 content and the cytochrome P450 2C11 isoenzyme activity, determined by hydroxylation of testosterone in intact cells, were not affected by the cryopreservation. The following phase II…
Graphene coating obtained in a cold-wall CVD process on the Co-Cr Alloy (L-605) for medical applications
2021
Graphene coating on the cobalt-chromium alloy was optimized and successfully carried out by a cold-wall chemical vapor deposition (CW-CVD) method. A uniform layer of graphene for a large area of the Co-Cr alloy (discs of 10 mm diameter) was confirmed by Raman mapping coated area and analyzing specific G and 2D bands
Rhinomanometry: point of care test (POCT) for allergic rhinitis in children?
2021
Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a global health problem: its prevalence is 23% in Europe, although it is underestimated because as many as 45% of the cases remain undiagnosed. Globally, almost 500 million people suffer from AR, which shows its increasing incidences. The diagnostic course of AR is based on clinical history, supported by anterior rhinoscopy. This inspects the anterior part of the nasal cavity accompanied by allergic sensitivity tests (cutaneous allergic skin tests or specific immunoglobulin E levels). The availability of standardised diagnostic procedures is able to provide objective evaluations of inflammatory situation, and the degree of nasal obstruction may give an advantage in…
Leaps and bounds: geographical and ecological distance constrained the colonisation of the Afrotemperate by Erica.
2018
Abstract Background The coincidence of long distance dispersal (LDD) and biome shift is assumed to be the result of a multifaceted interplay between geographical distance and ecological suitability of source and sink areas. Here, we test the influence of these factors on the dispersal history of the flowering plant genus Erica (Ericaceae) across the Afrotemperate. We quantify similarity of Erica climate niches per biogeographic area using direct observations of species, and test various colonisation scenarios while estimating ancestral areas for the Erica clade using parametric biogeographic model testing. Results We infer that the overall dispersal history of Erica across the Afrotemperate…
Flush-Crash Experiments in Drosophila
1989
In 1968, Hampton Carson (1968) proposed the founder-flush-crash model, a new model of speciation, which readily lends itself to experimental testing in the laboratory (Carson 1971).
The reaction structure of the LEDA research centre: Development and design
2017
In the last twenty years, the field of earthquake engineering experienced a noticeable improvement. The results of experimental and theoretical researches have contributed to the development of modern technical codes, which provide innovative solutions for the structural assessment and new design approaches. Despite this large amount of improvements, several open questions are still open, and the need for large scale testing has been deeply proved and discussed. A new research facility, namely the Laboratory of Earthquake engineering and Dynamic Analysis (LEDA), has been recently completed at the University of Enna "Kore". This research centre, funded with a grant from Italian Ministry of E…
Empirical model evaluation and hypothesis testing
2016
Chapter 5 deals with the empirical model evaluation and the testing of hypotheses. It starts out with the evaluation of the measurement and the structural models, using the PLS algorithm. After the evaluation of the complete model, moderating effects are examined by conducting group comparisons (section 5.4.1) and by investigating interaction effects (5.4.2). After that, selected constructs are further examined by exploratory data analysis (section 5.5).
SIFT Matching by Context Exposed
2023
This paper investigates how to step up local image descriptor matching by exploiting matching context information. Two main contexts are identified, originated respectively from the descriptor space and from the keypoint space. The former is generally used to design the actual matching strategy while the latter to filter matches according to the local spatial consistency. On this basis, a new matching strategy and a novel local spatial filter, named respectively blob matching and Delaunay Triangulation Matching (DTM) are devised. Blob matching provides a general matching framework by merging together several strategies, including rank-based pre-filtering as well as many-to-many and symmetri…
Automated Patch Assessment for Program Repair at Scale
2021
AbstractIn this paper, we do automatic correctness assessment for patches generated by program repair systems. We consider the human-written patch as ground truth oracle and randomly generate tests based on it, a technique proposed by Shamshiri et al., called Random testing with Ground Truth (RGT) in this paper. We build a curated dataset of 638 patches for Defects4J generated by 14 state-of-the-art repair systems, we evaluate automated patch assessment on this dataset. The results of this study are novel and significant: First, we improve the state of the art performance of automatic patch assessment with RGT by 190% by improving the oracle; Second, we show that RGT is reliable enough to h…
