The influence of innovation stimulus, facilitating factors and support mechanisms on innovation performance in Brazilian small textile firms
2020
The ability of the organisation to develop new products is crucial in rapidly changing business environments, and thus, customer demographics, consumers' expectations and buying behaviour play an important role. Hence, exploring the antecedents of innovation performance becomes more important. This study analyses the relationships among innovation stimulus, facilitating factors and support mechanisms for innovative performance in the textile industry of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The sample included 128 respondents, who were all employees of five small and medium-sized textile firms; data were analysed using structural equation modelling. We found that innovation stimulus, facilitating factors…
Ion-exchange fibers and drugs: a transient study.
2003
The objective of this study was to theoretically model and experimentally measure the kinetics and extent of drug release from different ion-exchange materials using an in-house-designed flow-cell. Ion-exchange fibers (staple fibers and fiber cloth) were compared with commercially available ion-exchange materials (resins and gels). The functional ion-exchange groups in all the materials were weak -COOH or strong -SO3H groups. The rate and extent of drug release from the fibers (staple fiber>fiber cloth) was much higher than that from the resin or the gel. An increase in the hydrophilicity of the model drugs resulted in markedly higher rates of drug release from the fibers (nadolol>metoprolo…
Research Regarding the Influence of Raw Material and Woven Fabric Geometry on the Air Permeability of Mattress
2017
Abstract Properties of woven fabrics are influenced by many factors: the nature of raw materials, woven fabric geometry and density, technological parameters of the weaving operation and finishing. The main purpose of this research paper is to increase the performance of woven process during mattress manufacturing by choosing the right woven fabric geometry and raw material. The variation in air permeability depends on the area density, linear density, loop length and thickness of yarns. To obtain woven fabric samples were used several types of classic yarns, also ecological yarns like organic cotton and bamboo viscose. On the other side, tests results show the fabric resistance regarding a…
Analysis of the Possible Persistent Genotoxic Damage in Workers Linked to the Ardystil Syndrome
2016
[EN] Background: A combination of several factors including a change in the paint application system; a lack of proper hygiene; and inadequate safety measures caused a severe health impact in the workers of some textile painting factories. This outbreak, mainly characterized by respiratory disorders, caused the death of six people and it has been classified as Ardystil syndrome. Materials and Methods: Fifty-two workers involved in the outbreak and 48 healthy subjects not known to have exposed to the potentially mutagenic agents participated in the study. The program evaluated possible genotoxic damage through the sister chromatid exchange (SCE) cytogenetic biomarker assay. We determined the…
Muscle Activity and Inactivity Periods during Normal Daily Life
2013
Recent findings suggest that not only the lack of physical activity, but also prolonged times of sedentary behaviour where major locomotor muscles are inactive, significantly increase the risk of chronic diseases. The purpose of this study was to provide details of quadriceps and hamstring muscle inactivity and activity during normal daily life of ordinary people. Eighty-four volunteers (44 females, 40 males, 44.1±17.3 years, 172.3±6.1 cm, 70.1±10.2 kg) were measured during normal daily life using shorts measuring muscle electromyographic (EMG) activity (recording time 11.3±2.0 hours). EMG was normalized to isometric MVC (EMGMVC) during knee flexion and extension, and inactivity threshold o…
The influence of geographical concentration and structural characteristics on the survival chance of textile firms
2013
[EN] Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the contribution of location (geographical concentration) and firm structure (age and subsector) to the risk of business failure. Design/methodology/approach The Markov s regression analysis was made for a sample of over 11,700 Spanish textile-clothing firms. Findings The results obtained from the analysis suggest that the risk of business failure is increased by some risk factors relative to the structural characteristics of the firms (younger firms and specialization in low-tech activities), and under determined locational circumstances. Research limitations/implications Our conclusions have been obtained starting from a sample of manu…
The importance of innovation in international textile firms
2007
Purpose – The purpose of the paper is to analyse the importance of innovation for firms involved in international marketing.Design/methodology/approach – A total of 154 general managers in the textile sector were interviewed on two main groups of questions: entry forms when going abroad; and innovative decisions in products, strategies, processes, and markets. Univariate (ANOVA) and multivariate (discriminant analysis) methods were used.Findings – The present results have demonstrated that not all types of innovation dimensions are required to find new clients in new countries.Research limitations/implications – This study has been based on a mature sector, as is the textile sector in Spain…
Is the influence of the industrial district on international activities being eroded by globalization?
2009
Abstract This study provides insight into the impact of industrial districts on the international activities of firms, in the particular context of one traditional manufacturing industry: the Spanish home-textile industry. Using a sample of 128 manufacturing firms, the paper shows how location influences the timing and levels of exports and imports. Moreover, our results demonstrate how these influences have been diluted in recent years as the home-textile industry becomes more involved in the global arena. Our findings challenge some key arguments exploring the advantages of the district in the international activities of firms; in particular, first, in questioning the capacity of the dist…
