El tipo de cambio real dólar-euro y el diferencial de intereses reales

2006

This paper investigates whether threshold effects exist in the relationship between dollar-euro real exchange rate and real interest differential, over the period January 1984 to December 2004. We specify a three-regime threshold model and the results provide evidence that there is no threshold effect in the short term, but the nonlinear behaviour of real exchange rate implies threshold effect in the long term. On the other hand, the nonlinearity into the behaviour of real exchange rates can be modelled by a Band-TAR which implies a symmetric response to the real interest differential outside the bank. Finally, into the threshold band the behaviour of real exchange rate is near to follow a …

Effect of depolarizing GABAA-mediated membrane responses on excitability of Cajal-Retzius cells in the immature rat neocortex

2011

In immature neurons activation of ionotropic GABA receptors induces depolarizing membrane responses due to a high intracellular Cl− concentration ([Cl−]i). However, it is difficult to draw conclusions about the functional consequences of subthreshold GABAergic depolarizations, since GABAergic membrane shunting and additional effects on voltage-dependent ion channels or action potential threshold must be considered. To systematically investigate factors that determine the GABAergic effect on neuronal excitability we performed whole cell patch-clamp recordings from Cajal-Retzius cells in immature rat neocortex, using [Cl−]i between 10 and 50 mM. The effect of focal GABA application was quant…

Multirotations-CT während kontinuierlicher Beatmung: Vergleich unterschiedlicher Dichtebereiche bei gesunden Lungen und im Lavage-ARDS Modell

1999

PURPOSE In this animal study, density ranges for CT-based quantification of ventilated lung area were determined. Healthy lungs and ARDS lungs were compared during artificial respiration. MATERIAL AND METHODS CT-scans were performed in 5 anesthetized pigs using a dynamic multiscan CT option on a predefined transverse slice (slice thickness 1 mm; effective temporal resolution, 250 ms). During continuous CT acquisition, airway pressure was increased or decreased in a stepwise manner. In all images, areas of defined HU ranges were determined planimetrically. The lower threshold was set to -910 HE in all images. The upper threshold was varied from -800 HE to -200 HE in steps of 100 HE. RESULTS …

Visuelle Abschätzung der funktionellen Lungenanteile in der HRCT und 3He-MRT bei Patienten nach Einzel-Lungentransplantation: Vergleich mit der absol…

2005

Purpose: Visual assessment of the ventilation using HRCT and 3 He-MRI in patients after single lung transplantation (SLTX). Analysis of specific ventilation defects found with 3 He-MRI and morphological changes found with HRCT. Materials and Methods: We evaluated 8male patients (54 ′ 6 years) suffering from emphysema and six patients (3males and 3 females, 58 ′ 9.5 years) suffering from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) after SLTX. The morphological changes at HRCT were classified and localized. In 3 He-MRI (2D FLASH), 10 to 14 slices (slice thickness 10 mm, gap 5 mm) were acquired in coronal orientation to cover the whole lung. Ventilation defects were localized and characterized. The vi…

Percolation and Schramm–Loewner evolution in the 2D random-field Ising model

2011

Abstract The presence of random fields is well known to destroy ferromagnetic order in Ising systems in two dimensions. When the system is placed in a sufficiently strong external field, however, the size of clusters of like spins diverges. There is evidence that this percolation transition is in the universality class of standard site percolation. It has been claimed that, for small disorder, a similar percolation phenomenon also occurs in zero external field. Using exact algorithms, we study ground states of large samples and find little evidence for a transition at zero external field. Nevertheless, for sufficiently small random-field strengths, there is an extended region of the phase d…

Electrical transport in carbon black-epoxy resin composites at different temperatures

2013

Citation: J. Appl. Phys. 114, 033707 (2013); doi: 10.1063/1.4815870 (Received 3 May 2013; accepted 27 June 2013; published online 17 July 2013) Results of broadband electric/dielectric properties of different surface area—carbon black/epoxy resin composites above the percolation threshold are reported in a wide temperature range (25–500 K). At higher temperatures (above 400 K), the electrical conductivity of composites is governed by electrical transport in polymer matrix and current carriers tunneling from carbon black clusters to polymer matrix. The activation energy of such processes decreases when the carrier concentration increases, i.e., with the increase of carbon black concentration…

Acute exposure to 50ppm toluene does not increase sleepiness

2005

Abstract The Pupillographic Sleepiness Test (PST) is a new neurophysiological method to assess sleepiness. In an exposure study to a constant exposure level of 50 ppm toluene on 20 healthy men, our aim was to find out, if increased sleepiness could be seen with PST. PST was performed before and after 4.5 h of exposure. General complaints were assessed with the Swedish Performance Evaluation System (SPES) self-assessment questionnaire, once before and during exposure. Values obtained during exposure were related to pre-exposure values. Parametric cross-over analysis of logarithmic Pupillary Unrest Index (PUI) values did not show an effect of toluene exposure. In a nonparametric cross-over an…

Analgesic and central depressor effects of the dichloromethanol extract fromSchinus molle L.

1997

The analgesic and central depressor effects of the dichloromethanol extract of Schinus molle L. were analysed in in vivo models. This extract showed low acute toxicity, CNS depressor activity and analgesic effect. Following further fractionation, the hexane/dichloromethane (75/25) fraction showed the most interesting results. Thus, this fraction caused a total inhibition of motor activity and significantly reduced the threshold of pain to chemical stimulus. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Time course of excitatory and inhibitory states of bulbar respiratory modulated neurons.

1980

In respiratory modulated neurons of rabbits, vagally mediated inhibition is not bound to resting membrane potential oscillations. Latency of spinally evoked antidromical spike invasion, however, is shorter and threshold voltage is lower during the shift of membrane potential towards depolarization accompanying burst discharge.

Evaluation of the acute toxicity, analgesic and CNS activities of different species ofTeucrium genus

1995

Methanol and dichloromethanol extracts of the leaves and stems of four Teucrium species (T. cartaginenses, T. flavum, T. pumillum and T. buxifolium) have been tested for their toxicity, analgesic and central depressor effects. The intraperitoneal administration of the different extracts showed a CNS depressant activity in mice, but they lacked anticonvulsive effects. When tested for analgesic activity none of the extracts increased the threshold of pain thermal stimulus. However, the methanol and dichloromethanol extracts of T. cartaginenses and T. buxifolium species showed a significant analgesic effect in models of pain induced by chemical or mechanical stimulation.
