Background This study aimed to evaluate sociodemographic and clinical factors influencing overall survival (OS) in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Material and Methods Medical charts of 547 patients with OSCC from a public hospital in northeastern Brazil seen between 1999 and 2013 were evaluated. Survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method. The influence of age, sex, ethnicity, clinical stage, anatomical location, type of treatment, and comorbidities on the patients’ prognosis was evaluated. We describe a rare case of a solid variant of a mammary adenoid cystic carcinoma with basaloid features (sbACC) and its coexistence with a "small cell" carcinoma (SCC), identified and confirmed by histological and immunohistochemical observations: the absence of glandular structures and PAS-positive globules, positivity for neuroendocrine markers (NSE, synaptophysin and chromogranin), and negativity for 34betaE12 and SMA actin were the aspects suggesting the presence of SCC. Background Benign tumors of the salivary glands are a group of lesions with varied histopathological and clinical spectrum. The aim was to determine the incidence and clinicopathological characteristics of benign salivary gland neoplasms diagnosed between 2007 and 2016 in a single center located in northeastern Brazil. The role of osteonectin in human tooth development: An immunohistological study

We investigated immunohistologically 160 teeth and dental germs in various stages of tooth development taken from human individuals (13th week of pregnancy to the 24th year of life) to study the osteonectin expression in dental hard tissue. In the course of dentinogenesis, the predentin, the odontoblasts, and their cell processes show a positive osteonectin staining reaction. During cementogenesis, osteonectin is synthesized by cement-producing fibroblasts, cementoblasts, and cementocytes. Papillary squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx.

A case of papillary squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx is reported. The lesion was located in the base of the tongue and grossly presented a characteristic finger-like pattern of growth. The clinicopathological profile of the neoplasm is presented and the differential diagnosis with other exophytic squamous cell carcinomas is discussed.
