The fate of organic matter sources in coastal environments: a comparison of three Mediterranean lagoons

Trophic processes in coastal lagoons are strongly influenced by freshwater inputs and water exchanges with the sea. In recent years, stable isotope analysis has become a widespread and reliable method for the examination of trophic structure over time and space, also in complex ecosystems such as coastal lagoons. Urban segregation and unemployment: A case study of the urban area of Marseille – Aix-en-Provence (France)

International audience; In this paper, we study the effects of the spatial organization of the urban area of Marseille – Aix-en-Provence on unemployment there. More specifically, differences in the characteristics of the residential population induce urban stratification with the result that urban structure may affect the probability of employment. In order to evaluate the effects of spatial structure on unemployment, we implement a spatial probit model to reveal the employment probabilities of young adults still living with their parents. Our results support the hypothesis that living in or near a deprived neighborhood decreases the probability of employment.

The histology of ovarian cancer: worldwide distribution and implications for international survival comparisons (CONCORD-2).

OBJECTIVE: Ovarian cancers comprise several histologically distinct tumour groups with widely different prognosis. We aimed to describe the worldwide distribution of ovarian cancer histology and to understand what role this may play in international variation in survival. METHODS: The CONCORD programme is the largest population-based study of global trends in cancer survival. Data on 681,759 women diagnosed during 1995-2009 with cancer of the ovary, fallopian tube, peritoneum and retroperitonum in 51 countries were included. Abstract Objectives To study the ablative activity of intravesical gemcitabine against superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder at different doses and concentrations. Methods A total of 27 patients were treated with intravesical gemcitabine after transurethral resection during which one to three papillary marker lesions were left unresected. Starting 14 days after transurethral resection, six instillations of gemcitabine were given at weekly intervals. The Immune Checkpoint Molecule CD200 Is Associated with Tumor Grading and Metastasis in Bladder Cancer.

BACKGROUND We examined the expression of CD200, a ligand of immune tolerance, in transitional cell carcinoma of the human bladder (TCC). MATERIALS AND METHODS CD200 was analyzed by immunohistochemistry (IHC) in 90 patients with suspected TCC lesions of the bladder. Expression of CD200 was exemplarily validated by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and western blot analysis. RESULTS CD200 was detectable at mRNA and protein levels in TCC homogenate and TCC cell lines (T24, UMUC3). Does P-glycoprotein-170 expression predict for chemoresistance in transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder?

Introduction: The glycoprotein P-170, causing drug efflux from the cells, may represent at least one cause of resistance to most drugs used in intravesical chemotherapy of superficial bladder cancer. Materials and Methods: GP-170 was retrospectively assessed in 60 patients affected by superficial transitional cell tumours of the bladder. It was assessed by immunohistochemistry in a semiquantitative way by the intensity of staining and by the percentage of positive cells.
