One cannot always laugh at a joke. Problems arise, among other things, when a joke is to be translated from one language into another. On the basis of selected examples, the present article deals with the difficulties with the translation of jokes from German into Polish and vice versa, and presents some suggestions of coping with them.

Lantibiotics (lanthionine-containing antibiotics) are ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs), encoded by structural genes as precursor peptides. The tools offered by genetic criticism, which retracing the dynamic process in order to characterize the genesis of texts, are useful tools in the translation process and, particularly, in the stage of understanding the original text. The study subject are Polish translations of the French structure NP1 + voir + NP2 + infinitive; we reject cases where the NP1 is represented by the pronoun on, and concentrate on translations in which the infinitive is not rendered. The analysis is based on the corpus of texts embracing 58 pairs of examples, each of which contains a French sentence with the investigated construction and a Polish sentence with its equivalent. Our aim is to identify factors which make translators erase the French infinitive.
