Mapping the protein composition oftrans-Golgi network (TGN)-derived carrier vesicles from polarized MDCK cells

In polarized MDCK cells, proteins and lipids are sorted in the trans-Golgi network /TGN) and packaged into different vesicular carriers that are delivered to the apical or basolateral cell surface. To gain insight into the sorting and trafficking machinery, we have previously isolated TGN-derived carrier vesicles from perforated MDCK cells. The composition of immuno-isolated apical and basolateral carriers was mapped by two-dimensional (2-D) gel electrophoresis. Multiple voltage‐gradient gel electrophoresis system

A new device, based on the principle of voltage-gradient gel electrophoresis, was developed in order to enhance differentiation of the distance across the range of molecular masses in the electrophoretic fractionation of nucleic acids in an agarose matrix. The apparatus has a series of modular parallel plates, placed slantwise to allow reiteration of the voltage gradient effect along the gel. This subjects DNA fragments of variable length to differential runnings according to their original position in the gel. Geminal ionic liquids: a combined approach to investigate their three-dimensional organisation.

Different investigations, such as 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, resonance light scattering spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations, have been jointly used to achieve a deeper understanding of the degree of structural order in two geminal ionic liquids. In particular, 3,3'-di-n-butyl-1,1'-(1,3-phenylenedimethylene)diimidazolium and 3,3'-di-n-butyl-1,1'-(1,4-phenylenedimethylene)diimidazolium bis[bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide] have been studied. Hemocyanin subunit organization of the gastropod Rapana thomasiana

Abstract RtH1 and RtH2, the two hemocyanin isoforms of the prosobranch gastropod Rapana thomasiana, have been purified by anion-exchange chromatography and studied by SDS–PAGE and immunoelectrophoresis. Both subunit types are built up of eight functional units (FUs). Under reducing conditions subunit RtH2 splits into two fragments, RtH2- a – f and RtH2- gh, suggesting the presence of a disulfide bridge between FU2- f and FU2- g. Stress-70 proteins in marine mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis as biomarkers of environmental pollution: a field study.

In the present work we have investigated levels of stress-70 proteins in the gills of mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis collected seasonally from subtidal rocky shores at 6 different sites of the Rovinj coastal area (Northern Adriatic, Croatia). 1-D analysis (SDS-PAGE) using monoclonal mouse antibodies anti-HSP70 detected two bands of stress-70 proteins, 70 and 72 kDa constitutively present during the year. 2-D analysis (IEF+SDS-PAGE) proved that the antibodies used detected HSP70 (pI 5.7–5.9) and HSP72 (pI 5.5–5.6). Echinostoma caproni (Trematoda: Echinostomatidae) is an intestinal trematode that has been used as experimental model to investigate the factors determining the expulsion of intestinal helminths. We analyze the changes in the protein expression and glycosylation induced by E. caproni in Wistar rat, a host of low compatibility in which the parasites are rapidly rejected. Triterpenoid saponins from the roots of two Gypsophila species.

Two triterpenoid saponins with two known ones have been isolated from the roots of Gypsophila arrostii var. nebulosa, and two new ones from the roots of Gypsophila bicolor.
