C−C Cross-Couplings from a Cyclometalated Au(III) C∧ N Complex: Mechanistic Insights and Synthetic Developments

Abstract In recent years, the reactivity of gold complexes was shown to extend well beyond π‐activation and to hold promises to achieve selective cross‐couplings in several C−C and C−E (E=heteroatom) bond forming reactions. Here, with the aim of exploiting new organometallic species for cross‐coupling reactions, we report on the Au(III)‐mediated C(sp2)−C(sp) occurring upon reaction of the cyclometalated complex [Au(CCH2N)Cl2] (1, CCH2N=2‐benzylpyridine) with AgPhCC. A new sulfated steroidal derivative (fruticogenin A: 1-sulfo-australigenin-3-sodium sulphate, 1) and three new steroidal saponins named fruticoside K (3-sulfo-spirostan-25(27)-ene-1β,3β-diol-1-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-β-D-fucopyranoside], 2), fruticoside L (3-sulfo-spirostan-25(27)-ene-1β,3β,6α-triol-1-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-β-D-fucopyranoside], 3) and fruticoside M (spirostan-25(27)-ene-1β,3α-diol-1-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-α-L-rhamnopyranoside], 4) were isolated from the aerial parts of Cordyline fruticosa L. var. strawberries. 2D NMR spectra have been measured at variable temperatures between −100°C and +110°C in a sample of melt crystallized deuterated polyethylene (PE). The line shape could be decomposed into a central part originating from deuterons in the amorphous regions and outer parts from crystalline regions of PE. The “NMR crystallinity” determined from this separation was 72% in agreement with the X-ray crystallinity of 74%. Changes of the crystalline NMR line shape were interperted in terms of oscillations around the chain axis, the r.m.s. oscillation amplitude varying from 5° at 40°C to 12° at 110°C. Complete assignments of1H and13C NMR spectra of four hispanane diterpenoids

An NMR study of four hispanane diterpenoids is described. In addition to conventional 1D NMR methods, 2D shift-correlated experiments [1H,1H-COSY, 1H,1H-TOCSY, 1H,13C-HSQC-1J(C,H). 1H,13C-HMBC-nJ(C,H) (n = 2 and 3)] and 2D 1H,1H-NOESY were used for the complete and unambiguous 1H and 13C chemical shift assignments of these diterpenoids. Reversible Dimerization of Tetraureas Derived from Calix[4]Arenes

Calix[4]arene derivatives, substituted at the wider rim by four urea functions are easily available in great variety. In apolar solvents like benzene or chloroform they dimerize via NH…O=C hydrogen bonds encapsulating a single solvent molecule as guest. The exclusive formation of dimers has been proved in solution by NMR, while their shape has been characterized by single crystal X-ray analysis. The kinetic stability and the rate of the guest exchange have been studied by NOESY experiments using a derivative with lower symmetry.

Solutions of chain- (PS-d3) and phenyl ring (PS-d5) deuterated polystyrenes in perdeuterated PS-d8 have been investigated with 1H and 2D NMR relaxation and wide line methods. The intra- and intermolecular parts of the 1H second moments at −100°C are 3,7 G2 and 2,0 G2, respectively, for PS-d3, and 14,7 G2 and ca. 0 G2, respectively, for PS-d5. The intermolecular contribution to the 1H spin lattice relaxation rate, determined at 55 MHz between 150°C and 250°C, is about one third of the total rate in PS-d3, and negligible in PS-d5. Study of electrostatic potential surface distribution of wild-type plastocyaninSynechocystissolution structure determined by homonuclear NMR

Plastocyanin is a small (∼10 kDa), type I blue copper protein that works as an electron donor to photosystem I from cytochrome f in both chloroplast systems and in some strains of cyanobacteria. Comparative studies of the kinetic mechanisms of plastocyanins in different organisms show that the electron transfer from photosystem I happens by simple collision in cyanobacteria but through a intermediate transition complex in green algae and superior plants. Deciliation: A stressful event for Paracentrotus lividus embryos.

In this report, by using mono- and two-dimensional electrophoretic analysis, we demonstrate that deciliation on sea urchin embryos induces a stress response. Deciliation indeed causes not only the activation of ciliary subroutine, but also a transient decrease of bulk protein synthesis. This decrease is in agreement with our previous results on heat shock response in sea urchin, although deciliation does not induce the expression of the same main hsp set. We were able to characterize one main deciliation-stress protein of 40 kDa whose expression is transiently induced by deciliation and whose localisation is likely to be nuclear.

Analysis of cytochrome C oxidase subunits III and IV expression in developing rat brain

Abstract Cytochrome c oxidase (COX) complex is built up with both nucleus- and mitochondrion-encoded subunits. Biogenesis and assembly of the complex thus requires fine cross-talk between the two compartments. In order to shed light on the regulation of nuclear–mitochondrial interactions, we studied the expression of COXIII (mitochondrion-encoded) and COXIV (nucleus-encoded) in adult rat tissues and rat developing brain. We found that the levels of COXIV protein and mRNA are not linearly related, thus suggesting a post-transcriptional mode of regulation. Replication origins and pause sites in sea urchin mitochondrial DNA

We have used a combination of one- and two-dimensional agarose gel electrophoresis, and solution hybridization to strand-specific probes, to map the replication origin of sea urchin mitochondrial DNA and to investigate the structure of replication intermediates. These assays are consistent with replication initiating unidirectionally from the D-loop region by D-loop expansion, as in vertebrates. A prominent site of initiation of lagging-strand synthesis lies at, or near to, the boundary between the genes for ATPase 6 and COIII, which is also close to a pause site for leading-strand synthesis.
