Gas assisted mechanical expression (GAME) as a promising technology for oil and phenolic compound recovery from tiger nuts

2015

Abstract The aim of this work was to investigate the potential of gas assisted mechanical expression (GAME) process as an innovative technology for oil extraction and polyphenol recovery from tiger nuts. GAME process was first studied by varying the supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) and the mechanical expression (ME) pressures (10–30 MPa), then was compared to separate processes applied alone, using either SC-CO2 or ME. The results showed that the better conditions for GAME were found using 20 MPa for SC-CO2 and 30 MPa for ME. Under these conditions, 50% of oil was released from tiger nuts after 10 min extraction, compared to only 10% and 20% when using SC-CO2 and ME separately at 20 an…

Supercritical Fluid Adsorption of Domperidone on Silica Aerogel

2013

Silica aerogel (SA) was loaded with domperidone to demonstrate the potentiality of adsorption processes based on the usage of supercritical carbon dioxide to treat poorly water-soluble drugs, forming new kinds of drug delivery systems. The effects of pressure, temperature and solution concentration on loaded SA were studied. Adsorption isotherms were measured at 35℃ and 45℃ and fitted with Langmuir model. Release kinetics of the adsorbed drug were also evaluated by in vitro dissolution tests. Results showed that domperidone can be uniformly dispersed into the aerogel and that the release rate of domperidone from the composite, constituted by drug and silica aerogel, is much faster than that…

Solubility of some pesticides in supercritical CO2

1988

The solubility limits of some pesticides (Linuron, Methoxychlor, Diclofopmethyl, Diclofop and 2,4-D) and of 3,4-dichloroaniline have been determined in supercritical CO2 at 200 bar and 40° C, using the Milton Roy sample preparation accessory SPATM. Depending on the polarity and vapour pressure of the investigated compounds, the solubility was found to be between 0.3 and 12 gl−1.

Flavans and other chemical constituents of Crinum biflorum (Amaryllidaceae)

2019

Abstract The ethyl acetate extract from the whole plant of Crinum biflorum Rottb. Showed a moderate activity against Enterococcus faecalis. Its phytochemical investigation led to the isolation of a new flavan-3-ol derivative namely (2R,3R)-3-hydroxy-7-methoxy-3′,4′-methylenedioxyflavan, together with (2S)-7-hydroxy-3′,4′-methylenedioxyflavan, (2R,3R)-7-methoxy-flavan-3-ol, (2S)-7-hydroxy-3′,4′-dimethoxyflavan, 3′,7-dihydroxy-4′-methoxyflavan, 4′,7-dimethoxy-3′-hydroxyflavan, farrerol, β-sitosterol, β-sitosterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, oleanolic acid, kaempferol, pancratistatin, lupeol, aurantiamide acetate, Narciprimine and 2,3-dihydroxypropyl palmitate. Their structures were elucidated ma…

The chromosomes of 16 molluscan species

1982

Abstract Chromosome numbers were determined for two species of Placophora, eleven species of Gastropoda, one species of Pelecypoda and two species of Cephalopoda. No heterotypic or supernumerary chromosome resulted from the analysis of meiotic and, when possible, of mitotic chromosomes. For this reason no positive evidence emerges for the presence of differentiated sex chromosome pairs. Data available seem to indicate that evolution within the Mollusca phylum has been accompanied by a decrease in both chromosome number and DNA content (according to Hinegardner, 1974), if we consider subclasses, orders and families (apart from the subclass Prosobranchia). On the contrary the primitive class …

Congenital hypopituitarism and multiple midline defects in a newborn with non-familial Cat Eye syndrome

2022

Abstract Background Cat eye syndrome (CES) is a rare chromosomal disease, with estimated incidence of about 1 in 100,000 live newborns. The classic triad of iris coloboma, anorectal malformations, and auricular abnormalities is present in 40% of patients, and other congenital defects may also be observed. The typical associated cytogenetic anomaly relies on an extra chromosome, derived from an inverted duplication of short arm and proximal long arm of chromosome 22, resulting in partial trisomy or tetrasomy of such regions (inv dup 22pter-22q11.2). Case presentation We report on a full-term newborn, referred to us soon after birth. Physical examination showed facial dysmorphisms, including …

Noninvasive evaluation of the celiac trunk and superior mesenteric artery with multislice CT in patients with chronic mesenteric ischaemia.

2008

This study sought to assess the role of multislice computed tomography (MSCT) in patients with suspected chronic mesenteric ischaemia (CMI). Forty-five patients (29 men; mean age 68) underwent MSCT angiography of the abdomen for suspected CMI (main clinical finding: postprandial abdominal pain). The scan protocol was detectors/collimation 16/0.75 mm; feed 36 mm/s; rotation time 500 ms; increment 0.4 mm; 120-150 mAs and 120 kVp. A volume of 80 ml of contrast material was administered through an antecubital vein (rate 4 ml/s), followed by 40 ml of saline (rate 4 ml/s). Images were analysed on the workstation with different algorithms (axial image scrolling, multiplanar reconstructions, maximu…

Detailed study of SNR G306.3–0.9 using XMM-Newton and Chandra observations

2016

Aims. We aim to study the spatial distribution of the physical and chemical properties of the X-ray emitting plasma of the supernova remnant (SNR) G306.3-0.9 in detail to obtain constraints on its ionization stage, the progenitor supernova explosion, and the age of the remnant. Methods. We used combined data from XMM-Newton and Chandra observatories to study the X-ray morphology of G306.3-0.9 in detail. A spatially resolved spectral analysis was used to obtain physical and geometrical parameters of different regions of the remnant. Spitzer infrared observations, available in the archive, were also used to constrain the progenitor supernova and study the environment in which the remnant evol…
