A tectonic inversion by steps during the Cenozoic : the Dover Strait

2004

Abstract The Boulonnais is a dome incised by a former marine gulf inset into a zone of tectonic inversion from the Middle Eocene, which was already partly excavated at least at the Upper Eocene. New sedimentological and paleopedological data obtained within the Boulonnais, completed with old seismic profiles, allow a better understanding of the inversion process which developed step by step. The initial breaching probably took place in the late Eocene. The Dover Strait was probably opened during the Lutetian, a part of the Oligocene and the late Neogene. Oligocene and Pliocene faunal assemblages are identical on both sides of the Strait. It was closed again for tectonic and eustatic reasons…

Acute pancreatitis in children. An Italian multicentre study

2002

Abstract Aim . To evaluate the clinical, morphological and aetiological aspects of acute pancreatitis in children in Italy. Patients . The hospital records of 50 consecutive patients with acute pancreatitis observed in 5 Italian Pediatric Departments were reviewed. Results . A total of 25 males and 25 females (median age 10.5 years, range 2–17) were studied. Of these patients, 48 (96%) had abdominal pain. The pancreatitis was associated with biliary disease in 10 patients (20%); it was due to viral infection in 6 patients (12%), pancreatic duct abnormalities in 4 (8%), familial chronic pancreatitis in 3 (6%), trauma in 5 (10%) and other causes in 5 (10%); the pancreatitis was of unknown ori…

À la recherche du lien perdu entre caractéristiques des dirigeants et performance de la firme : gouvernance et latitude managériale

2008

Upper Echelons Theory and financial governance theory both postulate that CEOs have a determining influence on the performance with, however, a very significant difference concerning the influence of managerial discretion. For the first one, managerial discretion has a potentially positive influence on performance by enabling the managers' cognitive capacities to affect it, for the second one, a negative influence, insofar as it can lead to decisions conflicting with shareholders' interests. The objective of this article is, on the one hand, to compare the contents and the role of the managerial discretion concept within these two theoretical frameworks, on the other hand, to propose, in th…

Ks. Johannesa Chrząszcza zapiski o I wojnie światowej. Sylwetka górnośląskiego historyka w 90. rocznicę śmierci

2019

Przypadająca w 2018 roku 90. rocznica śmierci ks. Johannesa Chrząszcza jest dobrą okazją, aby przybliżyć szerszemu gronu czytelniczemu sylwetkę tegoż górnośląskiego kapłana. Ks.

Solitary keratoacanthoma involving upper lip: a diagnostic dilemma - case report and a brief review

2010

Keratoacanthoma (KA) is a benign epithelial proliferative lesion which frequently occurs on the sun exposed areas of the skin. KA originates within the pilosebaceous apparatus of the skin and may be solitary or multiple. Solitary KA can be difficult to differentiate from squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) both clinically and microscopically. However, the clinical course of the lesion and its ability to self involute makes it a distinct clinical entity. Solitary KA appears on the vermilion border of the lower lips with some frequency. A case of keratoacanthoma involving the upper lip is reported presenting as an exophytic growth that resolved after excisional biopsy. Photo- graphic documentation …

On the dynamics of the AB Doradus system

2006

We present an astrometric analysis of the binary systems ABDorA /ABDorC and ABDorBa / ABDorBb. These two systems of well-known late-type stars are gravitationally associated and they constitute the quadruple ABDoradus system. From the astrometric data available at different wavelengths, we report: (i) a determination of the orbit of ABDorC, the very low mass companion to ABDorA, which confirms the mass estimate of 0.090Msun reported in previous works; (ii) a measurement of the parallax of ABDorBa, which unambiguously confirms the long-suspected physical association between this star and ABDorA; and (iii) evidence of orbital motion of ABDorBa around ABDorA, which places an upper bound of 0.4…

A Context-Based Enterprise Ontology

2007

The main purpose of an enterprise ontology is to promote the common understanding between people across enterprises, as well as to serve as a communication medium between people and applications, and between different applications. This paper outlines a top-level ontology, called the context-based enterprise ontology, which aims to advance the understanding of the nature, purposes and meanings of things in enterprises with providing basic concepts for conceiving, structuring and representing things within contexts and/or as contexts. The ontology is based on the contextual approach according to which a context involves seven domains: purpose, actor, action, object, facility, location, and t…
