CEO tenure and ownership mode choice of Chinese firms: The moderating roles of managerial discretion

Abstract Based on upper echelon theory, this study has explored how CEO tenure affects ownership mode choice of Chinese firms investing abroad, and how some organizational factors, such as firm size, firm age and CEO duality, moderate this relationship. Using secondary data, this study finds CEO tenure has a positive relationship with the choice of full control mode, CEO duality can reinforce this relationship, but firm size and firm age have no significant moderating effect.

Controlling risk through diversification in portfolio selection with non-historical information

We deal with the portfolio selection problem for investors having information on the expected returns of the assets based not only on historical data. In the absence of a way of measuring the risk of non-historical information, the investor may try to adjust it through the consideration of a suitable set of diversification constraints. UV-tunable upper critical solution temperature behavior of azobenzene containing poly(methyl methacrylate) in aqueous ethanol

A series of azobenzene containing copolymers were synthesized by post-modification of poly(methyl methacrylate-co-pentafluorophenyl methacrylate) with an amine-functionalized azobenzene. Light- and thermo-responsive behavior of these copolymers was investigated in ethanol–water solvent mixtures with various amounts of ethanol. The upper critical solution temperature (UCST) of the polymer solutions, resulting from the poly(methyl methacrylate), was found to be highly tunable by the substitution degree of the copolymers as well as the ethanol content of the solvent mixture. Optical power distribution of refractive and aspheric multifocal contact lenses: Effect of pupil size

Abstract Purpose To evaluate the power profile within the optic zone of different designs of multifocal contact lenses (CLs) and to analyze how the effect of pupil size could impact on their optical performance. Methods The optical power distribution within the optic zones of multifocal CLs was measured by the Nimo TR1504 (LAMBDA-X, Belgium). The multifocal CLs under study were the Acuvue Bifocal, the Acuvue Oasys for Presbyopia, the PureVision Multifocal and the PureVision 2 for Presbyopia. Reliability of manual segmentation of cornea, contact lens and tear film using a high-resolution OCT

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the intra/inter-session and intra/inter-observer variability of manual segmentation of thickness of the pre-lens tear film, contact lens (CL), post-lens tear film, epithelium, bowman’s layer, stroma and the whole cornea and CLs with a flat and a steep fit, using a commercial high-resolution spectral domain optical coherence tomographer (OCT). Two different observers obtained three repeated measures in two separate sessions. Phase behaviour and interfacial tension of polysiloxane blends

Abstract The cloud point curve for blends of poly(dimethyisiloxane) (PDMS, M w = 2.5kg mol −1 ) and poly(hexylmethylsiloxane) (PHMS, M w = 113kg mol − ] was determined turbidimetrically. The system demixes upon cooling and the UCST amounts to 36°C. The interfacial tension γ was determined at the critical composition for three temperatures by means of a spinning drop tensiometer. The dependence of γ on the reduced critical temperature can be described within experimental error by both the mean field theory and the Ising-3D theory.

This paper deals with optimal shakedown design of truss structures constituted by elastic perfectly plastic material. The design problem is formulated by means of a statical approach on the grounds of the shakedown lower bound theorem, and by means of a kinematical approach on the grounds of the shakedown upper bound theorem. Learning for allocations in the long-run average core of dynamical cooperative TU games

We consider repeated coalitional TU games characterized by unknown but bounded and time-varying coalitions' values. We build upon the assumption that the Game Designer uses a vague measure of the extra reward that each coalition has received up to the current time to learn on how to re-adjust the allocations among the players. As main result, we present an allocation rule based on the extra reward variable that converges with probability one to the core of the long-run average game. Analogies with stochastic stability theory are put in evidence.
