Changes in Students' Psychological Well-Being during Transition from Primary School to Lower Secondary School : A Person-Centered Approach

2019

This person-centered study examined the patterns and the dynamics of pattern change based on 1666 Finnish students' self-reported psychological well-being during the transition from primary school to lower secondary school. Moreover, we examined the stability in the profile memberships and the influence of changes in perceived support from teachers, families, and peers on changes in students' psychological well-being. Six student profiles were identified using the I-states-as-objects-analysis (ISOA) procedure: (a) High well-being profile; (b) Average well-being but low educational aspirations profile; (c) Low well-being profile; (d) Low well-being but high educational aspirations profile; (…

Stenholm, Johanna. Immune system adaptations during competition period in female cross-country skiers. Master’s Thesis in Exercise Physiology, Department of Biology of Physical Activity. University of Jyväskylä. 95pp. Purpose. This study was undertaken to characterize the extent of immune and endocrine changes in competition period and related to two competition weekends in well trained athletes in different parts of the competition period. An additional purpose was to evaluate if the changes in immunological variables would have an effect on the incidence of upper-respiratory-tract infections. The effect of the nutrition, nutrient and training status was also studied. Methods. Ten (10) nat…

Wkład Wielkopolan w edukację ludności górnośląskiej w XIX i XX stuleciu

2017

For the history of development of the Polish movement in Upper Silesia, the aid which inhabitants of Greater Poland (Wielkopolska) extended to Upper Silesians, beginning with the mid-19th century until the Interwar period, was of great import_ance. The former, coming from the lower middle-class (petit bourgeois) and intelligentsia backgrounds, got interested in Silesia in the time of the Spring of Nations. In the second half of the 19th century, their support for Silesia became strengthened, sińce they began settling down in this region. They arrived in this Province to take professional work and carry out nationalistic activity among the population living here. Their cooperation was realiz…

"I can't come up with any reason why English could not be integrated with any other subject" : English teachers' perceptions of integrating English w…

2016

Nykykoulussa on edessä muutoksia, kun perusopetuksen uusi opetussuunnitelma otetaan käyttöön vuoden 2016 syksystä eteenpäin. Uusi opetussuunnitelma painottaa eheyttämistä ja monialaisia oppimiskokonaisuuksia enemmän edelliseen opetussuunnitelmaan verrattuna. Käytännössä kaikkien koulujen velvoitteena on siis tarjota oppilaille integroivia ja monialaisia oppimiskokonaisuuksia opetuksessaan (Norrena 2015: 25, Perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelman perusteet 2014). Näin ollen opettajat alkavat suunnitella ja muodostaa uudenlaisia yhteyksiä aineiden välille, joten on mielenkiintoista nähdä, minkälaisia kokonaisuuksia ja minkä aineiden kesken yhteistyötä tulee tapahtumaan. Tämän tutkielman tarkoituks…

Exciting Complexity: The Role of Motor Circuit Elements in ALS Pathophysiology

2020

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease, characterized by the degeneration of both upper and lower motor neurons. Despite decades of research, we still to date lack a cure or disease modifying treatment, emphasizing the need for a much-improved insight into disease mechanisms and cell type vulnerability. Altered neuronal excitability is a common phenomenon reported in ALS patients, as well as in animal models of the disease, but the cellular and circuit processes involved, as well as the causal relevance of those observations to molecular alterations and final cell death, remain poorly understood. Here, we review evidence from clinical studies, cell type-specific electrophysi…

Inwestycje w sieci kolejowej Górnego Śląska w latach 1945−1990

2016

The article presents the changes in railway network in Upper Silesia in the years 1950-1990. In the mentioned period, three main processes of change may be distinguished. The period of the expansion of railway lines, which fell mainly for the years 1950−1980 with varying intensity. Besides the construction of new lines and second tracks, a modernization of technical equipment of the railway lines was undertaken. The period 1960−1990, which included the process of implementing the electrical traction in place of the outdated steam traction and the modern, but expensive diesel traction. The last phase of regression (liquidation) of the railway lines, which indicated the first symptoms in the …

Kulturę pamięci mniejszości niemieckiej, a generalnie pamięć tej zbiorowości, budowano w opozycji do przyjętego w Polsce nurtu postrzegania przeszłości, w szczególności w obszarze polsko-niemieckich relacji w ubiegłym wieku. W tym kontekście kultura pamięci mniejszości niemieckiej wchodziła w kolizję z obrazem przeszłości kultywowanym przez ogół społeczeństwa polskiego, …

Implizite Sprachmischung in Kontaktidiomen zweisprachiger Oberschlesier

2020

Early language contact research often focused on the so-called explicit language mix-ing, where the elements of one language were clearly present in the second language. This article is devoted to the less frequent manifestations of the so-called implicit lan-guage mixing, where only structures of one language are used, whereas the means of expression are taken from the other language. The research corpus is made up of state-ments by bilingual Upper Silesians, who were interviewed as part of a project on time witnesses accounts. The informants live in an ethnically and nationally heterogeneous region, whose inhabitants have different language repertoires depending on factors such as place o…

English speaking skills in Finnish upper secondary school : students' self-assessment vs. the objectives of the curriculum

2017

Vieraiden kielten osaamisella on alati kasvava merkitys nykyajan ihmisille.
