CBIR (content-based image retrieval) systems attempt to allow users to perform searches in large picture repositories. In most existing CBIR systems, images are represented by vectors of low level features. Searches in these systems are usually based on distance measurements defined in terms of weighted combinations of the low level features. Analysis of research on web usability for people with cognitive disability from 2002 to 2011

We present a review of research over the last decade on web usability for people with cognitive disabilities. Our aim is to know current status on the issue of usability in relation to people with cognitive disabilities to consider the issues they present and future solutions. We proceeded to perform a review in specialized databases of different scientific disciplines. We describe the results and we discuss empirical studies which evaluated usability of websites for people with cognitive disabilities. Conclusions and future lines are presented.

Enterprise portals offer rich functionality for end- user personalization, but few studies have been conducted on the end-user effects of this feature. This article presents a study of end-user effects of personalization, using the combined technology acceptance model (TAM) and the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) as a research framework. We propose that personalization indirectly affects end-users' intentions through effects on ease of use, usefulness, attitude and behaviour control. Bridging the Gap between Advanced Distributed Teaching and the Use of Learning Management Systems in the University Context

The selection of appropriate learning management system (LMS) is critical for supporting advanced distributed teaching. A survey was targeted for understanding the features that the LMS offer for university teachers and to find if the advanced features of the LMS were utilized, The findings imply that there is a gap between the LMS tools for advanced distributed teaching and their use in the university context. The teachers using LMS were also found to be heterogeneous by their computer skills and LMS uses.

A Theoretical Framework to Foster Digital Literacy: The Case of Digital Learning Resources

The New National Curriculum in Norway from 2006 recommends that teachers and students acquire a high degree of digital literacy in school education. One way to foster digital literacy is to train teachers to design and critically evaluate digital learning resources (DLRs). However, little research has been done as to which design principles and evaluation criteria are suitable for DLRs. This work proposes a theoretical framework, along with a case study, for designing and evaluating DLRs. The article draws on research in learning theory, pedagogical usability criteria, and context of use. The paper reports on the implications of the framework for the design and evaluation of DLRs.
User-oriented quality for OER: understanding teachers' views on re-use, quality, and trust

We analysed how teachers as users of open educational resources (OER) repositories act in the re-use process and how they perceive quality. Based on a quantitative empirical study, we also surveyed which quality requirements users have and how they would contribute to the quality process. Trust in resources, organizations, and technologies seem to be of particular importance when looking at quality. In our findings, we derive recommendations for learning object repositories and OER user-oriented quality assurance.
