Low-temperature metastabilization of tetragonal V+4-containing ZrO2 solid solutions

Abstract The formation and characterization of tetragonal vanadium–zirconia solid solutions with different vanadium contents have been investigated. Vanadium–zirconia precursors were prepared by gelling mixtures of zirconium n-propoxide and vanadyl acetylacetonate, and studied over the range of temperature up to the tetragonal–monoclinic phase transformation. The formation of the tetragonal phase has been investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). It was found that it took place after annealing around 450°C for all specimens independently of the vanadium loading. Evaluation of Arsenate- and Vanadate-Associated Changes of Electrical Membrane Potential and Phosphate Transport inLemna gibbaG1

Interference of arsenate and vanadate with phosphate uptake in Lemna gibba L. was studied by measuring voltage changes and (32P)phosphate uptake. Arsenate proved to be competitive with the highand low-affinity phosphate uptake system. It induced transient membrane potential changes of up to 120 mV which were similar to those induced by phosphate and indicated a cotransport mechanism with at least 2H+/H2As04. The amplitude of the transient arsenate-induced membrane depolarization was strongly influenced by phosphate starvation. Speciation of vanadium in urban, industrial and volcanic soils by a modified Tessier method

Vanadium (V) concentrations in industrial, urban and volcanic soils were sequentially extracted using a modified Tessier's method. The voltammetric technique was used to determine V concentrations in solutions obtained from the various extraction steps. At the reference stations, the V concentrations (sum of four individual fractions) in soils ranged from 0.72 to 0.24 g kg(-1) dry weight (d.w.) with a mean value of 0.18 g kg(-1) d.w. V concentrations in soils of the Palermo urban area ranged from 0.34 to 2.1 g kg(-1) d.w., in the Milazzo (industrial) area between 0.26 and 5.4 g kg(-1) d.w. and in the volcanic area near Mt. Synthesis, structure and reactivity of trans-UO22+ complexes of OH-containing ligands †

trans-Dioxouranium dinuclear complexes of a few OH-containing ligands possessing N-, O-binding sites were synthesized and characterised. Seven of these were also structurally characterised by single crystal X-ray diffraction. All these complexes exhibit symmetric U2O2 core structures in addition to having a seven-co-ordinated environment about each uranium centre. Even when the ligand possessed more than one CH2OH group, only one such group was found to be involved both in chelation as well as in bridging. The series of ethylene-norbornene (E-NB) copolymers was obtained using different vanadium homogeneous and supported ionic liquid (SIL) catalyst systems. Hybrid aerosol assisted atmospheric pressure Chemical Vapour Deposition: a facile route toward nano-composite thin films?

A hybrid chemical vapour deposition strategy is presented as a facile route for the production of vanadium dioxide nano-composite thin films. The effect of the inclusion of gold nano-particles and the use of a surfactant molecule; tetraoctylammonium bromide (TOAB), is discussed. The films are fully characterised and it is shown that micro-structural changes lead to an enhancement of thermochromic properties, whilst gold nano-particles lead to a change in the films optical properties. Optical data is used in energy modelling studies to elucidate the films potential as an energy saving coating in architectural glazing.

The dynamics of the surface layer of lipid membranes doped by vanadium complex: computer modeling and EPR studies

Abstract Penetration of the liposome membranes doped with vanadium complex formed in the liquid-crystalline phase from egg yolk lecithin (EYL) by the TEMPO (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl) spin probes has been investigated. The penetration process was followed by 360 hours at 24°C, using the electron spin resonance (EPR) method. The spectroscopic parameter of the partition (F) of this probe indicated that a maximum rigidity of the membrane was at 3% concentration of the vanadium complex. Computer simulations showed that the increase in the rigidity of the membrane corresponds to the closure of gaps in the surface layer of the membrane, and indicates the essential role of the membrane …

Study of the Ti44(α,p)V47 reaction and implications for core collapse supernovae

The underlying physics triggering core collapse supernovae is not fully understood but observations of material ejected during such events helps to solve this puzzle. In particular, several satellite based γ-ray observations of the isotope 44Ti have been reported recently. Conveniently, the amount of this isotope in stellar ejecta is thought to depend critically on the explosion mechanism. The most influential reaction to the amount of 44Ti in supernovae is Ti44(α,p)V47. Here we report on a direct study of this reaction conducted at the REX-ISOLDE facility, CERN. Erratum to “Beta decay half-lives of neutron rich Ti–Co isotopes around N=40” [Nucl. Phys. A 660 (1999) 3–19]

Abstract The neutron-rich 57−59 Ti, 59−62 V, 61−64 Cr, 63−66 Mn, 65−68 Fe, 67−70 Co have been produced at GANIL via interactions of a 60.4 MeV/u 86 Kr 34+ with a 58 Ni target. They have been separated by the doubly achromatic spectrometer LISE3. Beta-decay half-lives have been determined for all produced nuclei, and subsequent γ -rays have been observed for the most efficiently produced nuclei. The measured half-lives of vanadium and chromium isotopes are compared to QRPA calculations using ground states deformations from the FRDM or ETFSI models.
