The complete nucleotide sequence of an isolate of Tomato yellow leaf curl Sardinia virus found in Sicily

Partial sequences of Tomato yellow leaf curl Sardinia virus (TYLCSV) derived from tomato samples collected in Sicily in 1999, 2002 and 2004 indicated the presence of a TYLCSV different from the one previously described as the Sic strain. Here, we report a complete DNA sequence that is classified as belonging to the TYLCSV type strain (Sar strain), confirming the co-existence in Sicily of virus populations of both strains. Moreover, comparisons between this new sequence and those of the two recombinants recently described in Sicily revealed unequivocally (99% identity) that their TYLCSV-derived portion originated from the Sar strain. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.

Infections with betanodavirus affect a wide range of wild and farmed fish species throughout the world, mostly from the marine environment. The aim of this work was to develop and validate real-time RT-PCR assays for sensitive and specific detection of nodavirus in diseased or carrier fish. The new detection assay was used to study the transmission and development of nodavirus infection in juvenile sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax (L.), challenged by different routes, and also to screen for nodavirus in various farmed fish species. SummaryIn 1983, an extensive survey of populations ofD. melanogasterwas started in a southern French region (Languedoc) in two non-Mendelian systems: the P–M system of transposable elements and the hereditary Rhabdovirus sigma. Unexpectedly fast-evolving phenomena were observed and interesting correlations were noted, giving similar geographical pattern to the region in both systems. For these reasons, the analysis was continued and extended towards the north (Rhône Valley) and the south (Spain). Abstract Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) is one of the most important diseases affecting tomatoes, occasionally leading to losses of up to 100%. Because of the importance of this virus disease, considerable research has been carried out in recent years on the viral particle, disease vectors, transmission and control methods. This review presents an account of the current state of research on TSWV with special reference to tomato. Genetic resistance appears as the best solution to control this disease. Introduction. Pityriasis lichenoides is a rare, acquired spectrum of skin conditions of an unknown etiology.Case Report. A 28-year-old man presented with recurrent outbreaks of herpes simplex virus associated with the onset of red-to-brown maculopapules located predominantly in trunk in each recurrence. Positive serologies to herpes simplex virus type 2 were detected. Histopathological examination of one of the lesions was consistent with a diagnosis of pityriasis lichenoides chronica.Discussion. Insecticidal activity of Vip3Aa, Vip3Ad, Vip3Ae, and Vip3Af from Bacillus thuringiensis against lepidopteran corn pests.

Vip3Aa, Vip3Ad, Vip3Ae, and Vip3Af proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis were tested for their toxicity against Spodoptera frugiperda and Agrotis ipsilon. Vip3Ad was non-toxic to the two species. Vip3Ae and Vip3Af were significantly more toxic than Vip3Aa against S. frugiperda, both as protoxins and as toxins. Against A. ipsilon, Vip3Ae protoxin was more toxic than Vip3Aa and Vip3Af protoxins. Purification by metal-chelate affinity chromatography significantly affected Vip3Ae toxicity against the two insect species.
