2022
Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, intensive care units (ICU) introduced restrictions to in-person family visiting to safeguard patients, healthcare personnel, and visitors. Methods: We conducted a web-based survey (March– July 2021) investigating ICU visiting practices before the pandemic, at peak COVID-19 ICU admissions, and at the time of survey response. We sought data on visiting pol icies and communication modes including use of virtual visiting (videoconferencing). Results: We obtained 667 valid responses representing ICUs in all continents. Before the pandemic, 20% (106/ 525) had unrestricted visiting hours ; 6% (30/525) did not allow in-person visiting. At peak, 84% (558/667…

The affective impact of sightseeing bus tour experiences:using Affective Events Theory (AET) to examine length-of-stay and electronic word-of-mouth
2022
This study investigates the key components and influences of positive affect and electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) on tourist visits at two developing urban destinations, namely Birmingham, United Kingdom and Valencia, Spain. These two data collection sites yielded evidence gathered from 627 and 615 sightseeing bus tourists, respectively. Through the analytic lens of Affective Events Theory (AET), data was examined, and results verify the significant mediating role of affect in two regards: (1) tourists’ decision to extend their visits, and (2) eWOM of sightseeing bus tour experiences. The moderating role of past sightseeing experiences in these relationships was also supported by the data an…

2022
In a context of reduced public funding and a paradigm shift in access to information, the survival of libraries is linked to greater and better knowledge by citizens of their collections, products, and services. This study analyzes the visits program of t…
Nature in malls: Effects of a natural environment on the cognitive image, emotional response, and behaviors of visitors
2019
This study aims to assess the role of a natural environment and its effects on the following components of attitudes: cognitive image, affective response, and behavioral intentions. Using a survey conducted among 292 mall visitors, this study also examines how the perception of the atmosphere in a mall can indirectly affect behavioral intentions. The findings confirm that the components of cognitive image, namely, appealingly design features, may positively influence affective responses at malls. Affective response also positively impacts the behavioral intention of a mall visitor. Affective response features were found to be more powerful than the cognitive image and natural atmosphere att…
2018
Application of GPS tracking for monitoring spatially unconstrained outdoor recreational activities in protected areas – A case study of ski touring i…
2018
Abstract New trends in leisure and outdoor recreation show an increased penetration of remote areas and the development of spatially unconstrained outdoor recreational activities. Here we present the application of GPS tracking to monitor a spatially unconstrained recreational activity, using ski touring in the Tatra National Park (TNP) as a study case. Particular focus of the study was the spatial and temporal behaviour of ski tourers with regard to existing management measures implemented in the Park, where recreation is limited to designated zones. The research is based upon empirical data (n = 427 ski touring GPS tracks). ArcGIS and statistics software SPSS were used for spatial and sta…

<title>Pilot clinical evaluation of prototype system for visually reporting the results of ultrasound examination</title>
2000
A dedicated optic-mechanical device, attachable to an ultrasound scanner, has been developed that allows visual documenting of ultrasound examination by recording multiple gray-scale images, i.e. ultrasound tomography (UST), to be performed routinely and at low cost. The device is operated by one hand without interrupting the examination. Each page of UST report is composed by deliberate positioning multiple images within the 2X4 framework and recorded on a 35-mm microfilm. If necessary, graphic reconstructions were composed from standard graphic components and interposed between the original images on the same frame. UST report is communicated to a patient and/or a referring doctor on a co…
