Computer simulation of ferroelectric property changes in PLZT ceramics under neutron irradiation

2001

The response of ferroelectric materials to high energy irradiation is of great interest because of their possible application in radiation environments such as thermonuclear reactors. In the present work a physical model for the defect evolution in PLZT ceramics under neutron irradiation and annealing is proposed. The influence of the defect system on the ferroelectric properties of these materials has been investigated. Satisfactory agreement between the theoretical estimated oxygen defect concentration after irradiation and annealing and the experimentally determined polarization has been obtained.

Polycatenane systems from Co(II) and trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethene (bpe). Synthesis and structure of Co(bpe)2(NCS)2·CH3OH, [Co(bpe)2(H2O)2](ClO4)2·2…

2001

Three new compounds of formulae Co(bpe)2(NCS)2·CH3OH, 1, [Co(bpe)2(H2O)2](ClO4)2·2CH3OH, 2 and [Co(bpe)2(H2O)2(CH3OH)2](ClO4)2·bpe·H2O, 3, [bpe =  trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethene] have been synthesised and characterised by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The metal environment in 1–3 is distorted octahedral. Compound 1 is a polycatenane. Its structure consists of parallel layers containing Co2+ ions linked by bpe ligands, the Co···Co distance through the bpe bridge being 13.65(3) A. Each metal ion, in a layer, defines the edges of a rhombus. Two thiocyanate groups trans-coordinated to the metal atoms are perpendicular to the sheets. Each sheet has an infinite number of perpendicular sheets …

Linkage isomerism in the metal complex hexa(thiocyanato)rhenate(IV): Synthesis and crystal structure of (NBu4)2[Re(NCS)6] and [Zn(NO3)(Me2phen)2]2[Re…

2008

Abstract The linkage isomers [Re(NCS)6]2− and [Re(NCS)5(SCN)]2− are obtained by the reaction of [ReBr6]2− with NCS− in dimethylformamide. Some differences in the chemical behavior allowed their separation and structural characterization in the form of (NBu4)2[Re(NCS)6] (1) and [Zn(NO3)(Me2phen)2]2[Re(NCS)5(SCN)] (2), respectively (Bu = n-C4H9 and Me2phen = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline).

Pseudohalide derivatives of manganese(II) and copper(II) complexes with mepirizole, a biologically active pyrimidyl-pyrazole ligand

1989

Abstract The synthesis and characterization of thiocyanate and azide derivatives of mepirizole(4-methoxy-2-(5-methoxy-3-methyl-pyrazol-1-yl)-6-methylpyrimidine, hereinafter L) with manganese(II) and copper(II) is reported. The compounds were characterized by IR, electronic and EPR spectra and analytical data. Spectroscopic results suggest the existence of dimeric neutral entities [L2Cu2(μ-X)2(X)2] (X = NCS or N3) with unsymmetrical end-to-end bridges and five-coordination geometry around the copper(II) ion. Magnetic susceptibility data show that in the azide derivative the copper atoms are antiferromagnetically coupled (J = −18 cm−1), but no magnetic exchange interaction could be detected i…

Excited State Dynamics in Recombinant Water-Soluble Chlorophyll Proteins (WSCP) from Cauliflower Investigated by Transient Fluorescence Spectroscopy

2008

The present study describes the fluorescence emission properties of recombinant water-soluble chlorophyll (Chl) protein (WSCP) complexes reconstituted with either Chl a or Chl b alone (Chl a only or Chl b only WSCP, respectively) or mixtures of both pigments at different stoichiometrical ratios. Detailed investigations were performed with time and space correlated ps fluorescence spectroscopy within the temperature range from 10 to 295 K. The following points were found: (a) The emission spectra at room temperature (295 K) are well characterized by bands with a dominating Lorentzian profile broadened due to phonon scattering and peak positions located at 677, 684 and 693 nm in the case of C…

Cariostatic effect of a light-cured, resin-reinforced glass-ionomer for bonding orthodontic brackets in vivo

1998

The aim of this study was to evaluate in vivo the cariostatic potential of the resin-reinforced glass-ionomer (Vitremer core build-up restorative; 3M Dental Product Division) when used as a bonding agent for orthodontic brackets. The mineral distribution and topography of the enamel surface adjacent to the bracket base was determined by quantitative microradiography (TMR) and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). The study was designed in split-mouth technique using 9 pairs of premolars to be extracted for orthodontic reasons. One tooth of each pair was bonded with the resin-reinforced glass-ionomer, and the control contralateral premolar with the non-fluoridated composite (Concise, 3M…
