Performances and duration of the new generation of high voltage power electronic components are dependent on dielectric materials aim to insulating their internal terminals. Crystalline phase detection in glass ceramics by EPR spectroscopy

The advances of EPR spectroscopy for the detection of activators as well as determining their local structure in the crystalline phase of glass ceramics is considered. The feasibility of d-element (Mn2+, Cu2+) and f-element (Gd3+, Eu2+) ion probes for the investigation of glass ceramics is discussed. In the case of Mn2+, the information is obtained from the EPR spectrum superhyperfine structure, for Gd3+ and Eu2+ probes – from the EPR spectrum fine structure, whereas for Cu2+ ions the changes in the EPR spectrum shape could be useful. Quasi-static behaviour and damage assessment of flax/epoxy composites

Experimental investigations were conducted on flax and E-glass fibres reinforced epoxy matrix composites subjected to quasi-static loadings. Flax/epoxy samples having [0]12, [90]12, [0/90]3S and [±45]3S stacking sequences, with a fibre volume fraction of 43% have been tested under tension, compression and in-plane shear loadings. Overall, the compression strength of glass/epoxy was 76% greater than for the flax/epoxy composite. The damage evolution of flax/epoxy of [0/90]3S and [±45]3S samples has been evaluated in terms of transverse crack densities with respect to the load increment. Experimental Investigation of Efficiency Map for an Inverter-Fed Surface-Mount Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

Losses in inverter-fed permanent magnet motors are underestimated by using analytical or numerical approach since additional losses due to extra harmonics of the frequency converter are normally skipped. Further, losses in switches and passive components of the converter and the effect of switching frequencies cannot be numerically taken into consideration. Loss-minimizing control and proper efficiency analysis of inverter-fed permanent magnet motors cannot be achieved if an efficiency map is built based on a numerical investigation of the motors alone. Processing, basic characterization and standard dielectric measurements on PLZT x/65/35 (2≤x≤13) ceramics

ABSTRACTThe influence of external stress (0-800bar) on the dielectric properties of PLZT x/65/35 (2≤x≤13) ceramics was investigated. Applying uniaxial pressure leads to a change in the peak intensity of the electric permittivity (ϵ), of its frequency dispersion as well as in the dielectric hysteresis. The peak intensity of ϵ becomes broader and shifts to lower temperatures for PLZT x/65/35 with x = 2, 4, 6, 7, 9.75, 10, 11 and 13, with increasing pressure, on heating. It was concluded that applying uniaxial pressure induces an increase of Tm, and thus has similar effects as the increase of the Ti ion concentration in the PZT system. Microwave properties and structure of La–Ti–Si–B–O glass-ceramics for applications in GHz electronics

Abstract A dielectric bulk glass-ceramic of the La 2 O 3 –TiO 2 –SiO 2 –B 2 O 3 system is developed which is able to fulfill the requirements for dielectric loading-based mobile communication technologies. It is shown that the given dielectric requirements can be fulfilled by glass-ceramic materials without being dependent on ceramic processing techniques. The material exhibited permittivity values of 20  ɛ r Qf τ f τ f material with a Qf value of 9500 GHz and ɛ r  = 21.4 could be achieved at a ceramming temperature T cer  = 870 °C. Domain Walls Motions in Barium Titanate Ceramics

The shear modulus and mechanical loss at low frequencies (0.01, 0.3, 1 Hz) are measured by an inverted pendulum for BaTiO 3 ceramic with large grain sizes. The permittivity and dielectric losses are also investigated for the same material at higher frequencies between 1 and 100 kHz as function of temperature. Those results show several relaxation peaks in the ferroelectric phases. The activation energy of each peak is obtained to be 0.29, 0.45, 0.68, 0.92 eV. The influences of strain amplitude and thermal treatments are studied specially for the mechanical relaxation peak located in the tetragonal phase. Dielectric, thermal and Raman spectroscopy studies of lead-free (Na0.5Bi0.5)1−xSrxTiO3 (x = 0, 0.04 and 0.06) ceramics

ABSTRACTLead-free (Na0.5Bi0.5)1−xSrxTiO3 (x = 0, 0.04 and 0.06) ceramics with relative densities above 97% were prepared by solid-state synthesis process. Their dielectric, thermal and Raman properties were studied. X-ray diffraction analysis shows perovskite structure with rhombohedral symmetry at room temperature. Sr doping of Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (NBT) results in an increase of the dielectric permittivity, diffusing of the permittivity maximum and its shift toward lower temperatures. Relaxation of polarization in (K0.5Na0.5)(Nb0.93Sb0.07)O3 ferroelectric ceramics modified by BaTiO3

ABSTRACTA study of low-frequency relaxation of polarization in conventionally prepared ceramic compounds of (1-x)(K0.5Na0.5)(Nb0.93Sb0.07)O3+xBaTiO3+0.5mol.%MnO2 (x = 0.02, 0.04) examined over a wide temperature range is reported. Anomalous behavior of the temperature dependence of the coercive field Ec(T) is detected in the temperature range of the orthorhombic to tetragonal phase transition. The observed features of polarization are assigned to dynamics of the domain structure at the temperature range of phase coexistence.

Dielectric behaviour of BaTi1-xZrxO3ceramics obtained by means of a solid state and mechanochemical synthesis

ABSTRACTIn this study the comparison of dielectric behaviour of BaTi1-xZrxO3 (BTZx) ceramic samples prepared by means of a solid state and mechanochemical synthesis was presented. A single phase of perovskite structure was identified in the samples at room temperature. No significant impurities were detected in an EDS spectrum and the samples had a good stoichiometric ratio. The morphology of the investigated samples was characterized by a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The investigation of dielectric properties of the BTZx samples within the temperature range from 140 K to 600 K was performed by means of a dielectric spectroscopy method at the frequency ranging from 0.1 Hz to 10 MHz. …
