A mixed FES/EMG system for real time analysis of muscular fatigue

2010

International audience; In this article, we present a functional electrical stimulator allowing the extraction in real time of M-wave characteristics from resulting EMG recodings in order to quantify muscle fatigue. This system is composed of three parts. A Labview software managing the stimulation output and electromyogram (EMG) input signal, a hardware part amplifying the output and input signal and a link between the two previous parts which is made up from input/output module (NIdaq USB 6251). In order to characterize the fatigue level, the Continuous Wavelet Transform is applied yielding a local maxima detection. The fatigue is represented on a scale from 0 for a fine shaped muscle to …

Gabor filters in industrial inspection: a review. Application to semiconductor industry

2005

This paper focuses on reviewing some recent works of the use of Gabor filters dealing with industrial applications. After a brief recall of Gabor filter basis, the two usual uses of Gabor filters are recalled: filter bank approach and filter design approach. The third part presents recent published works domain by domain. A fourth part exposes our own work with Gabor Filters for defect detection on semiconductor. A short conclusion summarizes the paper.

Filling defects in a ceramics forming process

1997

Publisher Summary This paper presents a simple semi-heuristic method to predict mold filling defects in a porcelain forming process. It involves both a mechanical modelling of this process as a squeezing flow, and a postprocessing calculus that unable a defects prediction as soon as the shape and the size of artistic reliefs are known. This shape analysis is carried out with a multi resolution wavelet analysis. The chapter models the filling stage and to propose a criterium to avoid any filling defect that could waste the quality of the drawings. It illustrates a simplified modelling of the process during which the “turning” stage is approximated by the deformation under pressure of a Norto…

Vibration signature analysis for monitoring rotor broken bar in double squirrel cage induction motors based on wavelet analysis

2014

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a diagnosis technique, for rotor broken bar in double cage induction motor, based on advanced use of wavelet transform analysis. The proposed technique is experimentally validated. Design/methodology/approach – The proposed approach is based on a combined use of frequency sliding and wavelet transform analysis, to isolate the contribution of the rotor fault components issued from vibration signals in a single frequency band. Findings – The proposed technique is reliable for tracking the rotor fault components over time-frequency domain. The quantitative analysis results based on this technique are the proof of its robustness. Research limit…

A real time electromyostimulator linked with EMG analysis device

2013

International audience; In this study, a new system composed of two modules (electromyostimulation + electromyography recording) is presented. It can analyze in real time EMG signals during electromyostimulation. In addition, we propose a new method based on wavelet decomposition to analyze changes in M-wave characteristics. It leads to introduce a new index related to muscular fatigue.

Evaluating creep in metals by grain boundary extraction using directional wavelets and mathematical morphology

2001

Abstract It is economically important for manufacturers of high-temperature machines to be able to measure creep so that they can predict residual service life more accurately. This paper describes and refines an image analysis method for evaluating creep in laboratory test pieces. It is a preliminary study of how to extract relevant information for creep measurement by cavities counting. Sample preparation for quantification by image analysis is an important step determining the further development of the image analysis technique. Grain boundary extraction, which is directional information, is the major question to be overcome before measurement can be automated. The search for a crest-lin…

Multi-step ahead wind speed forecasting using an improved wavelet neural network combining variational mode decomposition and phase space reconstruct…

2017

Abstract Accurate wind speed forecasting is crucial to reliable and secure power generation system. However, the intermittent and unstable nature of wind speed makes it very difficult to be predicted accurately. This paper proposes a novel hybrid model based on variational mode decomposition (VMD), phase space reconstruction (PSR) and wavelet neural network optimized by genetic algorithm (GAWNN) for multi-step ahead wind speed forecasting. In the proposed model, VMD is firstly applied to disassemble the original wind speed series into a number of components in order to improve the overall prediction accuracy. Then, the multi-step ahead forecasting for each component is conducted using GAWNN…

Multiresolution wavelet-based approach to identification of modal parameters of a vehicle full-scale crash test

2012

In this work estimation of vehicle modal parameters was achieved by application of a wavelet-based method. The time-frequency analysis, which comprises those techniques that study a signal in both the time and frequency domains simultaneously, using Morlet wavelet properties are applied to the measured acceleration pulse of the colliding vehicle. Determination of the ridge of the wavelet coefficients matrix makes it possible to identify the frequency components of the recorded crash pulse. Subsequently, by using the estimated natural frequency of the system, the values of damping factor for a given mode shape are assessed. In this work there are concerned both: the major frequencies of the …

Frequency mapping in dynamic light emission with wavelet transform

2013

International audience; Dynamic photon emission microscopy is an e cient tool to analyse today's integrated circuit. Nevertheless, the reduction of transistor's dimensions leads to more complex acquisitions where many spots can be seen. A frequency characterization of the whole acquired area can help to have a better understanding of it. With that purpose in mind, a new methodology to draw frequency mapping of dynamic light emission acquisition is reported. It is fully automated and based on wavelet transform and autocorrelation function. Regarding the possible use in an industrial context, the suggested method can help to localize abnormal emission activity and it gives some perspectives o…
