The advent of emerging information and communication technologies, such as RFID, small size sensors and sensor networks, has made accessible a huge amount of information that requires sophisticated and efficient search algorithms to support queries on that data. Wavelet-like bases for thin-wire integral equations in electromagnetics

AbstractIn this paper, wavelets are used in solving, by the method of moments, a modified version of the thin-wire electric field integral equation, in frequency domain. The time domain electromagnetic quantities, are obtained by using the inverse discrete fast Fourier transform. The retarded scalar electric and vector magnetic potentials are employed in order to obtain the integral formulation. A non-parametric segmentation methodology for oral videocapillaroscopic images

We aim to describe a new non-parametric methodology to support the clinician during the diagnostic process of oral videocapillaroscopy to evaluate peripheral microcirculation. Our methodology, mainly based on wavelet analysis and mathematical morphology to preprocess the images, segments them by minimizing the within-class luminosity variance of both capillaries and background. A New Wavelet-Based Texture Descriptor for Image Retrieval

This paper presents a novel texture descriptor based on the wavelet transform. First, we will consider vertical and horizontal coefficients at the same position as the components of a bivariate random vector. The magnitud and angle of these vectors are computed and its histograms are analyzed. This empirical magnitud histogram is modelled by using a gamma distribution (pdf). As a result, the feature extraction step consists of estimating the gamma parameters using the maxima likelihood estimator and computing the circular histograms of angles. Efficient image compression using directionlets

Directionlets are built as basis functions of critically sampled perfect-reconstruction transforms with directional vanishing moments imposed along different directions. We combine the directionlets with the space-frequency quantization (SFQ) image compression method, originally based on the standard two-dimensional wavelet transform. A wavelet analysis of US fiscal sustainability

Abstract In this paper, we reassess the relationship between primary deficit and lagged debt to GDP ratio (Bohn, 1998), to test for US debt sustainability over the period 1795–2012. Our analysis is rooted in the wavelet domain enabling the detection of interesting patterns and otherwise hidden information. We find evidence of long term fiscal sustainability but only up until 1995 and also we show that governments tend to respond more vigorously to budget deficits when the level of debt is high rather than low.

Spatial Properties of Mismatch Negativity in Patients with Disorders of Consciousness

In recent decades, event-related potentials have been used for the clinical electrophysiological assessment of patients with disorders of consciousness (DOCs).
