Wyrazy dźwiękonaśladowcze w polskim i czeskim przekładzie "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" J. K. Rowling

The article is a contrastive analysis of twenty two Czech and Polish onomatopoeic verbs from translations of J. K. Rowling’s book: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The main source of data was Ćesky narodnf korpus - Korpus InterCorp v. 9. The starting point was locating the presence of examples of onomatopoeia separately in each translation and then verifying if their presence is motivated by onomatopoeia in the original text or not - usually it was. The next step was to establish what kinds of relations are present between the equivalent and the translated onomatopoeia. The article is acontrastive analysis of word-forming potential for six Czech and Polish ono­matopoeic verbs, such as: HLTAT / ŁYKNĄĆ; 2) CHLEMTAT / CHŁEPTAĆ; 3) CHROUPAT / CHRUPAĆ; 4) MLASKAT / MLASKAĆ; 5) SRKAT / CHLIPAĆ; 6) ŠPLOUCHAT / CHLUPAĆ. Using methodology of word-formation nests, two aspects of these words were analyzed: 1) abstract word-forming paradigm, 2) aword-forming chain. The analysis showed that in both languages ono­matopoeic verbs quite regularly will derive verbs naming the result of the action and the verbs expressing intensity or weakening of the action. The article is a tentative analysis of the word-forming potential for Polish not only onomatopoeic verbs. As the input material for analysis, the author selected 84 word-forming nests of verbs, taken from Słownik gniazd słowotwórczych współczesnego języka ogólnopolskiego (Kraków 2004). The selected verbs are the base for nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs. The derived nouns and verbs were divided into 23 semantic classes.
