Mechanochemical Synthesis, Photophysical Properties, and X-ray Structures of N-Heteroacenes

2016

The described mechanochemical methodology is an example of a proof-of-concept in which solution-based tedious, poor yielding, and difficult syntheses of pyrazaacenes are achieved under solvent-free ball-milling conditions; the method is easy, high yielding, time-efficient, and environmentally benign. The synthesized compounds also include pyrazaacenes (N-heteroacenes) that are octacene analogues containing pyrene building blocks. The compounds were sparingly soluble in common solvents, and column chromatographic purifications could be avoided after the solvent-free syntheses. The UV/Vis absorption spectra of the pyrazaacenes show intense absorption bands in the near-IR region. The single-cr…

On the Low-Lying Excited States ofsym-Triazine-Based Herbicides

2005

We report a joint computational and luminescence study on the low-lying excited states of sym-triazines, namely, 1,3,5-triazine (1) and the ubiquitous herbicides atrazine [6-chloro-N2-ethyl-N4-isopropyl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine (2)] and ametryn [6-methylthio-N2-ethyl-N4-isopropyl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine (3)]. Geometrical structures, energetics, and transition and state properties of I and 2 were computed at the TD-DFT, CASSCF, and CASPT2 levels of theory. The fluorescence and phosphorescence emission spectra, lifetimes, and fluorescence quantum yields were measured for the three compounds, and from these, the energies of the lowest excited states and their corresponding radiative rates…

Ag11(SG)7 : A New Cluster Identified by Mass Spectrometry and Optical Spectroscopy

2014

We report a one-step and high yield synthesis of a red-luminescent silver cluster with the molecular formula, Ag11(SG)7 (SG: glutathionate) via reduction of silver ions by sodium borohydride in the presence of the tripeptide, glutathione (GSH). The as-prepared cluster shows prominent absorption features at 485 and 625 nm in its UV-vis absorption spectrum. Aging of the as-prepared cluster solution led to the disappearance of the 625 nm peak, followed by broadening of the 485 nm peak to give three maxima at ?487, 437, and 393 nm in its absorption spectrum. These peaks remain unchanged even after polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), where a single band was observed confirming high purity…

Nano-magnetic potassium impregnated ceria as catalyst for the biodiesel production

2019

Abstract The main objective of this work comprises the investigation of biodiesel production from rapeseed oil using potassium impregnated Fe3O4-CeO2 nanocatalyst. The various concentration of potassium impregnated Fe3O4-CeO2 was screened for catalytic conversion of rapeseed oil to triglyceride methyl ester. The 25 wt % potassium impregnated Fe3O4-CeO2 nanocatalyst showed best biodiesel production. Nanocatalyst was characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM, BET and Hammett indicator for basicity test. The characterization of biodiesel was performed with GC-MS, 1H and 13C NMR. Moreover, the optimum reaction parameters such as catalyst amount (wt %), oil to methanol ratio, reaction time and reacti…

An experimental method for the determination of the photon flow reflected and absorbed by aqueous dispersions containing polycrystalline solids in he…

1991

An experimental method for the evaluation of the photon flow reflected and absorbed by aqueous dispersions containing polycrystalline solids is proposed. The method is based on actinometric measurements. It is shown that the values obtained are independent of the particle sizes and of the concentration of the solids at least in the experimental conditions and in the range used in the present study (particle size range: 40–500 μm; solids concentration: 0.1–2 g liter−1). The results suggest that the values obtained should be attributed to the interfaces formed between the surface of the solids and the medium. The method is applied to a photocatalytic reaction, namely to the photodegradation o…

Pressure-Stabilized Solvates of Xylazine Hydrochloride

2016

High pressure strongly favors the highest-density polymorph Z of active pharmaceutical ingredient 2-(2,6-xylidino)-5,6-dihydro-4H-1,3-thiazine hydrochloride (xylazine hydrochloride, XylHCl) up to about 0.1 GPa only, but still higher pressure destabilizes this structure. Above 0.1 GPa, XylHCl preferentially crystallizes as solvates with CH2Cl2, CHCl3, or (CH3)2CHOH depending on the solvent used. However, when XylHCl·H2O is dissolved in any of these solvents, the high-pressure crystallizations yield the hydrate XylHCl·H2O only. The single crystals of the CH2Cl2, CHCl3, and (CH3)2CHOH solvates could be grown in situ in a diamond anvil cell, which allowed their structure determination from the …

The sustainable synthesis of levetiracetam by an enzymatic dynamic kinetic resolution and an ex-cell anodic oxidation

2021

Levetiracetam is an active pharmaceutical ingredient widely used to treat epilepsy. We describe a new synthesis of levetiracetam by a dynamic kinetic resolution and a ruthenium-catalysed ex-cell anodic oxidation. For the enzymatic resolution, we tailored a high throughput screening method to identify Comamonas testosteroni nitrile hydratase variants with high (S)-selectivity and activity. Racemic nitrile was applied in a fed-batch reaction and was hydrated to (S)-(pyrrolidine-1-yl)butaneamide. For the subsequent oxidation to levetiracetam, we developed a ligand-free ruthenium-catalysed method at a low catalyst loading. The oxidant was electrochemically generated in 86% yield. This route pro…

Six-Step Gram Scale Synthesis of the HIV Integrase Inhibitor Dolutegravir Sodium

2021

A short and practical synthesis for preparing the active pharmaceutical ingredient dolutegravir sodium was investigated. The convergent strategy developed herein starts from 3-(R)-amino-1- butanol and builds up the BC ring system in 76% isolated yield over four steps. Ring A was constructed by a one-pot 1,4-addition to diethyl-(2E/Z)-2-(ethoxymethylidene)-3-oxobutandioate and subsequent MgBr2·OEt2-mediated regioselective cyclization. Amide formation with 2,4- difluorobenzylamine was either performed from the carboxylic acid or through aminolysis of the corresponding ester precursor. Final salt formation afforded dolutegravir sodium in 48–51% isolated yield (HPLC-purity: 99.7–99.9%) over six…

First Protection of a Wide-Rim Tetraamino Calix[4]arene in Opposite Positions

2007

The importance of tetraamino calix[4]arenes as starting materials is distinctly increased by the first versatile protective group for opposite amino functions. Reaction with trityl chloride leads to the 1,3-dialkylated derivative easily isolated in 34% yield; after a first acylation of the remaining amino groups, the trityl residues can be removed by TFA to introduce a second acyl group. ChemInform Abstract: Enantioselective Zinc-Mediated Conjugate Addition of Terminal Alkynes to Enones.

2013

Zinc for conjugate alkynylation: The enantioselective conjugate addition of terminal alkynes to 2-arylidene-1,3-diketones in the presence of diethylzinc and a catalytic amount of (R)-VANOL has been developed. The reaction can be applied to different aromatic and heteroaromatic alkynes and enones, giving the expected products in good yield and with enantiomeric excesses up to 91%. The products can be enantiomerically enriched up to 99% ee by crystallization (see scheme).
