Trends of extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli sequence type 131 and its H30 subclone in a French hospital over a 15-year period.

International audience; Sequence type 131 (ST131) is a predominant lineage among extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli. It plays a major role in the worldwide dissemination of E. coli producing extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs). Here we describe the long-term epidemiology of this clonal group in a French university hospital, where the incidence of ESBL-producing E. coli has increased from 0.018 case per 1000 patient-days in the year 2000 to 0.50 case per 1000 patient-days in 2014. The first of the 141 ST131 isolates was recovered in 2006, and the ST131 clonal group accounted for 18.1% of total ESBL-producing E. coli over the whole period (2000-2014). Extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli sequence type 131 H30-R and H30-Rx subclones in retail chicken meat, Italy

Extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli sequence type 131 (ST131), typically fluoroquinolone-resistant (FQ-R) and/or extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing, has emerged globally. Among clinical isolates, ST131, primarily its H30-R and H30-Rx subclones, accounts for most antimicrobial-resistant E. coli and is the dominant E. coli strain worldwide. We assessed its prevalence and characteristics among raw chicken meat samples on sale in Palermo, Italy. A novel VIM‐type metallo‐beta‐lactamase (VIM‐14) in a Pseudomonas aeruginosa clinical isolate from a neonatal intensive care unit

AbstractA Pseudomonas aeruginosa highly resistant to carbapenems was isolated in a neonatal intensive care unit in Palermo, Italy. The strain was found to carry a novel VIM‐type enzyme, classified as VIM‐14. The novel enzyme differs from VIM‐4 in a G31S mutation. VIM‐14 was harboured in a class 1 integron with a new organization. The integron carried the genes aac7, blaVIM‐14, blaOXA‐20 and aac4 in that order.

Aim: We describe a one-year investigation of colonization by imipenemresistant, metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the University Hospital of Palermo, Italy. Methods: A prospective epidemiological investigation was conducted in the period 2003 January to 2004 January. Rectal swabs were collected twice a week from all neonates throughout their NICU stay. Les souches d'E. coli résistantes aux antibiotiques

National audience; Le projet "CIREC" vise à étudier la prévalence et la caractérisation des souches d’E.coli productrices de β-lactamase à spectre élargi (BLSE) de type CTX-M dans les eaux usées et les boues issues d’une quarantaine de stations d’épuration (STEP) de la région Bourgogne. Puis, il s’agira d’identifier et caractériser les voies possibles de transfert de ces souches, les rejets d’effluents traités des STEP dans les rivières pouvant avoir des conséquences sur la contamination de la faune aquatique d’eau douce.
