Il presente studio approfondisce le tematiche, su esposte, ponendo l’attenzione sull’edificio storico “Il Grande Albergo Castello Utveggio”, che - per scelta di luogo e di destinazione d’uso, eccezionale per avvenimenti tecnici e costruttivi finalizzati a realizzarlo - presenta caratteristiche peculiari di identità di luogo fortemente correlato con la città di Palermo, con il paesaggio della Conca d’Oro e con il territorio. Posto sulla sommità del Primo Pizzo nel settore meridionale del Monte Pellegrino a 346 m s.l.m., è rivolto verso la città e il porto, fu progettato dall’architetto Giovan Battista Santangelo e realizzato nei primi decenni del ‘900.

This research analyses in depth the project of one of the most representative work of the Modern Architectural Movement in Sicily – the Scuola Officina Meccanica, located in Villaggio Monte degli Ulivi, in Riesi (CL), designed by the architect Leonardo Ricci between 1962 and 1968. The main objective is to contribute to the conservation of the architectural work through its analysis and study for a careful and conscious restoration. The research methodology aimed to retrace the compositional and geometric principles that defined the design process and its unique configuration.

This paper focuses on the use of Augmented Reality technologies in relation to the introduction of game design elements to support university medical students in their learning activities during a human anatomy laboratory. New algorithms to evaluate the real shape of a hull

In this study, a new method to compare rebuilt surfaces of hulls of sailing yachts is presented. In particular, the considered rebuilt surfaces are created through classic reverse engineering approaches. The new method has been developed by means of Grasshopper, a free generative algorithms editor that can be used as plugin of Rhinoceros, one of the most widespread free-form modelling software. A reverse engineering approach to measure the deformations of a sailing yacht

In this work, a multidisciplinary experience, aimed to study the permanent deformations of the hull of a regatta sailing yacht is described. In particular, a procedure to compare two different surfaces of the hull of a small sailing yacht, designed and manufactured at the University of Palermo, has been developed. The first one represents the original CAD model while the second one has been obtained by means of a reverse engineering approach. The article describes the innovative restoration of a decorative figured stucco, attributed to Giacomo Serpotta or to his family, with winged putti and a female figure sitting on a triumphal chariot. The work, in the past at the former Museo Nazionale and today at the Galleria Regionale di Palazzo Abatellis, can be dated between the late seventeenth century and the beginning of eighteenth century and is a testimony of the Baroque in Palermo.

Integrated three-dimensional models for noninvasive monitoring and valorization of the Morgantina silver treasure (Sicily)

The Morgantina silver treasure belonging to the Archaeological Museum of Aidone (Sicily) was involved in a three-dimensional (3-D) survey and diagnostics campaign for monitoring the collection over time in anticipation of their temporary transfer to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for a period of 4 years. Using a multidisciplinary approach, a scientific and methodological protocol based on noninvasive techniques to achieve a complete and integrated knowledge of the precious items and their conservation state, as well as to increase their valorization, has been developed. The use of maiolica bricks as artefact for surface decoration is widespread both in monumental and ordinary architectures in the Mediterranean regions, harmonizing the local construction traditions with the Islamic influences. 3D Technology for the Artworks Handling

In this study we present how to create a box for the transport of artworks put in place during the restauration of three polymateric sculpures made with trapanese technique called ‘Legno, Tela e Colla’. Thanks to 3D technology, we created a ‘digital twin’ of manufacts that allowed us to design and build supports and boxes for different uses. In this way, it was possible not to touch the artworks directly, so without risks for them, and to work even at a distance without the works, also in different places.

The development of new techniques and instruments for use in the field of the preservation, conservation and valorisation of Cultural Heritage is in continuous growth. Insediamenti rurali a corte nella Sicilia occidentale.

Si descrive la distribuzione planimetrica dei complessi rurali storici posti lontani dai centri urbani, in posizioni topografi che privilegiate. Si riportano, anche con esempi di architetture di masserie isolane e disegni riprodotti nella trattatistica dell’epoca, i diversi schemi tipologico-compositivi: edifi ci a blocco isolati (spesso fortifi cati), a torre, a corti aperte o a corti chiuse.
