Adoption of Green Environmental Practices in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises: Entrepreneur and Business Policies Patterns in Romania

2021

Current research shows that SMEs’ social and environmental actions are fragmented and informal, and few have formal policies and intentions. At the same time, many SMEs are engaged with environmental policies, often not knowing it. Concurrently, there is a gap between the pro-environmental attitudes of the SMEs managers, who are often seen as the main drivers for the firm’s behavior, and the policies implemented in reality in their firms. To this end, our research’s objective is to explore pro-environmental behavior, both at the individual and firm level, to identify connections between these levels and measures but also with firm’s and managers’ demographics, based on a study of Romanian S…

Stress Hyperglycemia as Predictive Factor of Recurrence in Children with Febrile Seizures

2020

Stress hyperglycemia and hyperlactatemia are commonly referred to as markers of stress severity and poor outcome in children with severe acute illness or febrile seizures. Our prospective study aimed to explore the risk factors for stress hyperglycemia and the predictive value of stress hyperglycemia for febrile seizure recurrence. We evaluated as risk factors for blood glucose level, serum lactate, acid&ndash

Exploring Inflammatory Status in Febrile Seizures Associated with Urinary Tract Infections: A Two-Step Cluster Approach

2021

Background: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are considered common facilitating factors, along with other infections, in triggering febrile seizures (FS). The main purpose of our study was to identify specific inflammatory patterns of UTI cases from other infections in a specific cluster, using a combination of inflammatory biomarkers to differentiate UTIs from other bacterial diseases triggering FS. Method: This prospective study included a number of 136 patients with 197 distinct FS events, from patients hospitalized in the Pediatric Clinical Hospital Sibiu, among which 10.2% were diagnosed with UTIs. Results: In one-third of the patients with UTIs (20 cases), the symptoms were limited to …

Inflammatory Biomarkers in Febrile Seizure: A Comprehensive Bibliometric, Review and Visualization Analysis.

2021

Background: Inflammatory markers association with many diseases is the subject of many articles and reviews. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric review and visualization analysis of inflammatory biomarkers (IB) in the context of febrile seizure (FS) patients. Methods: The study focused on IB in FS using (1) bibliometric analysis specific indicators and maps in order to analyze and present the network of authors, journals, universities, and countries, and (2) automated literature screening and unsupervised clustering approach for filtering and topic cluster identification. Results: We conducted a literature mining search on FS research, specifically IB in the context of FS, usin…

Thrombin Generation in Chronic Liver Diseases—A Pilot Study

2021

The knowledge about coagulation disorders in patients with chronic liver disease changed in the last decade. The aim of this study was to analyze the parameters of thrombin generation in patients with chronic liver disease, as they are the most appropriate biomarkers to explore coagulation. (1) Background: The knowledge about coagulation disorders in patients with chronic liver disease changed in the last decade. The study of thrombin generation in patients with chronic liver disease provides a much more accurate assessment of the coagulation cascade

Glycemic Status in Febrile Seizures

2019

AbstractStress hyperglycemia is commonly identified in children with severe illness and previously normal glucose homeostasis. In the pediatric population febrile seizures are reported among stress-related conditions associated with stress hyperglycemia. The objective of this prospective study was to evaluate the possible association between blood glucose level and febrile seizure severity defined by fever degree, seizure type, seizure duration and hospitalization length. Among 167 febrile seizures the prevalence of stress hyperglycemia (blood glucose concentration over 150mg/dl) was 13.22%. There was a highly significant statistical association between seizure duration (exceeding 15 minute…

A Single-Center (Sibiu, Romania), Retrospective Study (March–November 2020) of COVID-19 Clinical and Epidemiological Features in Children

2021

The aim of this study was to describe and analyze epidemiological and clinical features of children screened for COVID-19 at Sibiu Pediatric Clinical Hospital during the first 9 months (March–November) of coronavirus disease pandemic in Romania. A total of 203 pediatric patients with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 were included in the study. The median age of the patients was 121 (IQR 18–181) months and 52.22% had mild clinical type with pneumonia, 35.47% were moderate cases, 3.94% severe cases, 0.99% critically ill cases and 7.39% were asymptomatic. The most common symptoms were fever (n = 130, 64.03%), nasal congestion (n = 138, 67.98%), cough (n = 128, 63.05%) followed by sore throat …

A Decision-Tree Approach to Assist in Forecasting the Outcomes of the Neonatal Brain Injury

2021

Neonatal brain injury or neonatal encephalopathy (NE) is a significant morbidity and mortality factor in preterm and full-term newborns. NE has an incidence in the range of 2.5 to 3.5 per 1000 live births carrying a considerable burden for neurological outcomes such as epilepsy, cerebral palsy, cognitive impairments, and hydrocephaly. Many scoring systems based on different risk factor combinations in regression models have been proposed to predict abnormal outcomes. Birthweight, gestational age, Apgar scores, pH, ultrasound and MRI biomarkers, seizures onset, EEG pattern, and seizure duration were the most referred predictors in the literature. Our study proposes a decision-tree approach b…

Facilitators of and Barriers to Sustainable Development in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises: A Descriptive Exploratory Study in Romania

2021

In the context of growing concerns regarding the deterioration of the environment and the increase in social inequalities, the concept of sustainability emerged as a response of companies, in order to contribute to community goodwill. The drivers and obstacles for the businesses engaging in sustainable policies have been explored at large by scientific literature. However, research gaps were observed, namely regarding SMEs, that tend to have a less formal and more fragmented approach to sustainability. The goal of our study is to determine the main barriers and facilitators for sustainability that Romanian SMEs face, and the connections between them and with the firms’ characteristics. Our …

A HUMAN RESOURCE ONTOLOGY FOR RECRUITMENT PROCESS

2009

In this paper we propose a model of ontology for the human resource domain. We emphasize the benefits resulting from the application of Semantic Web technologies in the recruitment process. We use currently available standards and classifications to develop a human resource ontology which gives us means for semantic annotation of job postings and applications. Furthermore, we outline the process of semantic matching which improves the quality of query results. Finally, we propose the architecture of an evaluation system based on Semantic Web technologies.

A Systemic Review with Visualization using Adjutant: Application in Case of Febrile Seizure Research

2020

Febrile seizures (FS) on pediatric age is challenging because it’s higher incidence and recurrence as neurologic disorder in childhood. Our study show an approach to perform a systemic, in-depth, updated review analysis with visualization on current knowledge about febrile seizure. We performed a literature search of Pub Med research articles related to febrile seizure that were published until August 2020. The automated search was conducted using R open source package Adjutant with the following query terms: “febrile AND (seizures OR convuls*)”. The search resulted in 8200 documents corpus and 45 cluster topics. This kind of analysis and visualization could be useful for practitioners and …
