Presence of Atrial Natriuretic Peptides in Respiratory System
Cordon ombilical.
Modifications of atrial natriuretic peptide and vasopressin peptides in the rat hypothalamic supraoptic nucleus during resistance training
Many studies have demonstrated the involvement of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and vasopressin (VP) in the homeostasis of body fluids, but few studies have regarded the hypothalamic magnocellular neurosecretory system during physical exercises. The aim of the present immunohistochemical work is to study the activity of ANP and VP secreting neurons of the hypothalamic supraoptic nucleus during and after resistance training. The study was carried out in Wistar rats trained by a physical resistance-type exercise, using a rung ladder and a varying load fastened to the tail of each rat; the exercise lasted 20 min everyday for periods of 15, 30 and 45 days. Animal groups were sacrificed at th…

Presence of Oxytocin, Vasopressin and Atrial Natriuretic Peptide and Their Modification in Rat Hypothalamic Paraventricular Nucleus During Resistance Training
Summary Many studies have demonstrated the physiological effects of oxytocin (OT), atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and vasopressin (VP) in the homoeostasis of body fluids during physical exercise. However, a little information is available about the related immunohistochemical changes in hypothalamic magnocellular neurosecretory system during and after the training. The aim of the present work was to study the immunohistochemical changes in OT, ANP and VP levels in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus during and after resistance exercise protocol. Three groups of Wistar rats were trained by a rung ladder protocol for 15, 30 and 45 days, respectively; a fourth group was left to rest for…
Presence of atrial natriuretic factor in normal and hyperplastic human prostate and its relationship with oxytocin localisation
In this work, we showed the presence of atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) in human prostate and compared its localisation in normal and hyperplastic conditions. ANF was localised in epithelial and stromal cells, being increased in hyperplasia, mainly in the stromal component. Moreover, we compared ANF and oxytocin positivity in the same glands, focusing on the possible relationship between the paracrine effects of these two hormones.
ANP and insulin presence in human foetal pancreas
Aim of this work is to investigate the presence of Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and insulin in human foetal pancreas from not diabetic and diabetic mothers. The data literature evidenced that relationship between serum ANP and insulin. This work carried out on the sections immunostained for ANP and nsulin showed positivity for ANP and insulin in beta-cells of pancreas from diabetic mothers, while positivity for insulin in beta-cells of foetuses from not diabetic mothers. Results indicate that the insulin presence stimulates the ANP synthesis in pancreas of human foetuses from diabetic mothers. Aim of this work is to investigate the presence of Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and insuli…

Patient Specific Instrumentation for Total Knee Arthroplasty: a Literature Review
During the past decade, total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has been markedly increased. Recently, patient-specific custom cutting guides have been commercially introduced in order to achieve an accurate component alignment during TKA. In fact, these cutting blocks are specific to a patient’s knee anatomy and should help the surgeons to perform bone cuts, reducing the complexity of conventional alignment and sizing tools. Nevertheless, there are critical arguments against patient-specific cutting guides for routine use, such as poor evidence and higher costs. Additionally, there are still no mild and long-term results available that describe the clinical outcomes following patient-specific instru…
Application of an intelligent study and research support system for clinical anatomy in a cooperation scenario
Scientific research and teaching are strongly interrelated. A student should be educated both to the fundamentals of a discipline and to the research tasks as the future development of a discipline is entrusted to the students of today. Computer based tutoring systems already showed useful in pursuing the former target while the Intelligent Study and Research Support System developed at DINFO may be used to fulfill both in an integrated manner. This paper introduces the possible application of the ISRSS to training of Clinical Anatomy in a scenario of international cooperation among academic institutions.

Expression of Nitric Oxide Synthase in inflamed gingival tissue: immunohistochemical and image analysis
We have used 12 Epulis taken during surgical operation and as control, some normal gingival specimen. The aim was to clarify the relationship between the degree of inflammation and NO production in several cases of Epulis, exhibiting different degree of inflammatory process and verifying the presence of cells involved in NO production. From the immuhistochemical data in our possession we can conclude that NO is one of the factor which module the pathogenecity degree of Epulis.

ANP PRESENCE IN THE HYPOTHALAMIC SUPRACHIASMATICUS NUCLEUS OF DEVELOPING RAT
In previous research, we studied both the oxytocin and vasopressin ontogeny in the hypothalamic supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei, and the ANP-ontogeny in the hypothalamic supraoptic nucleus. In this paper we evaluate the ANP-ontogeny in the rat hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nucleus; infact the suprachiasmatic nucleus it is known to synthesize vasopressin, a peptidic hormone involved in the homeostasis of the body fluids by an antagonistic role to ANP. Immunohistochemical techniques show that ANP is present in the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nucleus of the rat at 18 degrees day of i.u. life and at 0 degrees to 3 degrees day of postnatal life. PCR analysis confirms the ANP-mRNA expressio…

Atrial natriuretic peptide secretion during development of the rat supraoptic nucleus
Since a relationship between atrial natriuretic peptide and oxytocin was recently demonstrated in the heart (Gutkowska et al., 1997), the aim of this study was to determine whether a relationship between the two peptides is present also in the rat hypothalamus. For this purpose, we measured ANP-ontogeny in the rat hypothalamus immunohistochemically and compared it with oxytocin-ontogeny which we previously studied. The results showed that the ANP-peptide and mRNA-ANP start at the 18th day of the fetal life. Our earlier data for oxytocin in the rat hypothalamus showed that only mRNA-oxytocin appeared the 18th day of foetal life (Farina Lipari et al., 2001); thus, at the 18th day of foetal li…

Presence and interaction in tissues of atrial natriuretic peptide, oxytocin and vasopressin:new insights.
Atrial natriuretic peptide, oxytocin and vasopressin are three well known and widely studied molecules since many years. They have been fully characterised from a genetic and biomolecular point of view and a number of receptor-dependent functions have been recognised for them. Nevertheless, in the last years our group has conducted morphologic studies, using an immunohistochemical approach complemented by molecular biology techniques, and could show non-canonical localization and co-localization of these peptides in normal and pathologic tissues, that permitted us to postulate that they may be involved in a wider range of functions than usually assumed and not yet fully understood. In this …

Ultrastructural biologic effects of sonography with pulse inversion and microbubble contrast in rabbit liver
Purpose This prospective study was conducted to evaluate the biologic effects of microbubble destruction with pulse-inversion harmonic imaging on rabbit liver parenchyma. Methods The livers of 6 albino rabbits were examined sonographically by a single investigator. Three rabbits underwent contrast-enhanced sonography, with scanning starting 5 seconds after injection by using pulse-inversion harmonic imaging with a mechanical index of 1.2. Four time-triggered images were recorded at a rate of 1 frame every 2 seconds. For comparison, 3 control rabbits had pulse-inversion harmonic imaging with a mechanical index of 1.2 only, without contrast medium. Immediately after sonography, the animals we…

PHENOTYPIC PROFILING OF OSTEOTROPIC BREAST CANCER CELLS
One of the preferred locations of metastases from breast cancer is the bone tissue. On the other hand, it should be recalled that mammary tumors with equal clinical diagnosis have a different course, and also different metastatic progression. Therefore, it would be helpful to have appropriate markers of osteotropism to test on the surgical cancer tissues, in order to predict the possible propensity of the breast cancer to generate bone metastases and to adequate the therapeutic plan. We previously reported1,2 on the setting-up of an in vitro model for the study of the osteotropic propensity of breast cancer cells and the influences exerted by the bone microenvironment on the cancer cells ph…

ANP and vasopressin -presence in the ciliary body of eye in the pig, (Sus domesticus)
The aqueous humor is produced in the ciliary body so, in this study we investigate on the ANP presence and vasopressin in the ciliary body of the pig eye since these peptide are involved in the homeostasis of the body fluids. The results show ANP-presence in the epithelial cells and in the endothelial cells of the blood vessels and VP-presence in the epithelial cells, in the endothelium of canal of Schelmm and in the muscle cells of the blood vessels. These peptides might regulate the synthesis and the composition of the aqueous humor and regulate the hydrodynamic flow and haemodynamic flow of the blood.

Kinking, coiling, and tortuosity of extracranial internal carotid artery: is it the effect of a metaplasia?
INTRODUCTION: Morphological anomalies of the extracranial internal carotid artery (ICA) cause symptomatic cerebrovascular insufficiency in 4-16% of the cases. The aim of the present study is to evaluate macroscopic and microscopic features of a group of extracranial ICA anomalies, specifically kinking, coiling, and tortuosity, eventually affecting the surgical approach. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From January 2003 to December 2005, 10 out of 169 (6%) revascularized patients (pts) were operated upon because of an ICA anomaly. They were all but two symptomatics. Seven pts were treated by ICA transection and end-to-side reimplantation of the ICA at the level of the carotid bulb; three pts were tre…

Histochemical Geography and Ultrastructural Remarks of the Urinary Tract in Some Mammals
Our investigations oriented towards the urinary tracts, particulary the bladder and ureter, were carried out by histochemical and ultrastructural studies by SEM and TEM observation. In this segment of urinary tract, by structural, ultrastructural and chemical analysis, have evinced variations related to different animal species (guinea pig, rabbit and rat). The bladder wall was considered from us for histochemical aspects related to hydrolytic lysosomial enzymes (Ac-Phase; Na-beta-Gase) and oxidative enzymes (SDH; Iso-DH; MADH) and ultrastructural aspect with TEM. The SEM observations showed the connection between morphovolumetric variations of uroepithelial cells and respiratory enzymatic …

The hypothalamic magnocellular neurosecretory system in developing rats
Studies concerning the development of the magnocellular system are scarce and discordant in literature. We carried out an immunohistochemical study on supraotic and paraventricular hypothalamic nuclei using antivasopressin and antioxytocin antibodies in developing rats between the 15th day of intrauterine life and the 6th day of postnatal life. In addition, we performed RT-PCR experiments to establish the stage at which these hormones appear and neurosecretory activity commences. The results showed that supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei appear, respectively, on the 16th and the 18th day of intrauterine life and both immediately synthetize vasopressin neurohormone. By contrast, synthesis…
