Karyotypic diversity among Blastocystis hominis isolates
Fifteen Blastocystis hominis strains, 13 axenic and 2 monoxenic, have been included in the present study. The chromosomal pattern was analyzed by the contour-clamped homogeneous electric-field (CHEF) system. The number of chromosomes detected ranged between 9 and 13, with sizes from 2200 kbp to 260 kbp. Eleven karyotypic profiles, with a common pattern constituted by 8 chromosomes of 2200, 1280, 890, 840, 700, 650, 540 and 260 kbp, were observed. The Jaccard index demonstrated that the similarity between isolates ranged from 0.5714 to 1. The different isolates were clustered in 3 karyotypes (A: 8 isolates; B: 6 isolates and C: 1 isolate). Abstract STUDY QUESTION Does LH protect mouse oocytes and female fertility from alkylating chemotherapy? SUMMARY ANSWER LH treatment before and during chemotherapy prevents detrimental effects on follicles and reproductive lifespan. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Chemotherapies can damage the ovary, resulting in premature ovarian failure and reduced fertility in cancer survivors. Molecular typing of clinical Candida strains using random amplified polymorphic DNA and contour-clamped homogenous electric fields electrophoresis.
Aims: This report describes an investigation into the genetic profiles of 38 Candida albicans and 19 Candida glabrata strains collected from a dental hospital of Monastir (Tunisia) and the Laboratory of Parasitology, Farhat Hached Hospital of Sousse (Tunisia), using two typing methods: random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and contour-clamped homogenous electric fields (CHEF). Self-diploidization in Saccharomyces cerevisiae kar2 heterokaryons
Zygotes isolated by micromanipulation from crosses of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains, one of which carries a kar mutation, give rise most frequently to cytoductant colonies showing the nuclear constitution of either one of the two haploid parental strains. In crosses of kar2-1 strains to wild-type, about 10% of the cytoductants of both mating types are homozygous autodiploids. There is evidence indicating that self-diploidization occurs by fusion between sibling nuclei in the heterokaryotic zygote. Application of molecular topology to the prediction of antifungal activity for a set of dication-substituted carbazoles, furans and benzimidazoles
In this paper, the endpoint is the application of molecular topology to the search of QSAR relations into a group of dicationsubstituted carbazoles, furans and benzimidazoles, all showing antifungal activity against C. albicans. Mathematical and statistical methods such as linear regression and discriminant analysis, are used to goal. Comparison of morphotypic and genotypic methods for strain delineation inCandida
Summary. We compared two phenotypic methods, colony morphotyping on Sabouraud-tripheniltetrazolium agar (STTZ) and serotyping, with two genotypic methods, karyotyping and Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA bands obtained by PCR amplification (RAPD-PCR), for strain delineation in 33 Candida clinical isolates and two C. albicans strains from culture collections. Analysis of isolates on STTZ showed 11 different morphotypes.
