Context. While studies of large samples of jets of active galactic nuclei (AGN) are important in order to establish a global picture, dedicated single-source studies are an invaluable tool for probing crucial processes within jets on parsec scales. These processes involve in particular the formation and geometry of the jet magnetic field as well as the flow itself. Aims. Sensitivity of the Cherenkov Telescope Array to spectral signatures of hadronic PeVatrons with application to Galactic Supernova Remnants

The local Cosmic Ray (CR) energy spectrum exhibits a spectral softening at energies around 3~PeV. Sources which are capable of accelerating hadrons to such energies are called hadronic PeVatrons. However, hadronic PeVatrons have not yet been firmly identified within the Galaxy. Several source classes, including Galactic Supernova Remnants (SNRs), have been proposed as PeVatron candidates. The potential to search for hadronic PeVatrons with the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is assessed. Studies of Relativistic Jets in Active Galactic Nuclei with SKA

Relativistic jets in active galactic nuclei (AGN) are among the most powerful astrophysical objects discovered to date. Indeed, jetted AGN studies have been considered a prominent science case for SKA, and were included in several different chapters of the previous SKA Science Book (Carilli & Rawlings 2004). Most of the fundamental questions about the physics of relativistic jets still remain unanswered, and await high-sensitivity radio instruments such as SKA to solve them. OPTICAL SPECTROSCOPY OF CANDIDATES IN THE LIGO/VIRGO BINARY MERGER ERROR BOXES

We performed optical spectroscopy of the candidates inside the gravitational wave errorboxes (S190408an, S190425z, S190426c, S190510g, S190728q, S190814bv). The spectral classification of 34 transients observed with the 10.4m Gran Telescopio de Canarias prior to 1 Sep 2019 is presented. We ruled out the association of these candidates with gravitational wave events.

Real vs. simulated relativistic jets

Intensive VLBI monitoring programs of jets in AGN are showing the existence of intricate emission patterns, such as upstream motions or slow moving and quasi-stationary componentes trailing superluminal features. Relativistic hydrodynamic and emission simulations of jets are in very good agreement with these observations, proving as a powerful tool for the understanding of the physical processes taking place in the jets of AGN, microquasars and GRBs. ALMA full polarization observations of PKS1830-211 during its record-breaking flare of 2019

We report Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) Band 6 full-polarization observations of the lensed blazar PKS 1830-211 during its record-breaking radio and gamma-ray flare in the spring of 2019. The observations were taken close to the peak of the gamma activity and show a clear difference in polarization state between the two time-delayed images. The leading image has a fractional polarization about three times lower than the trailing image, implying that significant depolarization occurred during the flare. Polarimetric VLBI observations of 0735+178

We present a new centimeter polarimetric VLBI image of the BL Lac object 0735+178. This source exhibits one of the most pronounced curvatures observed in jets of AGNs, with two sharp apparent bends of 90 degrees within the inner 2 milliarcseconds from the core. Through the analysis of the data gathered over the past decades we study whether this curvature is produced by precession of the jet with ejection of ballistic components, or a precession in such a way that components' velocity vector are always parallel to the jet axis. These possibilities are also studied by comparison with 3D hydrodynamic relativistic simulations of precessing jets.
