Chromone and phenanthrene alkaloids from Dennettia tripetala.
Dennettine, a new 2,6-dimethoxychromone and three known phenanthrene alkaloids (uvariopsine, stephenanthrine and argentinine) in addition to the phenolic and known compound vanillin were isolated from the roots of Dennettia tripetala. Their structures were determined by physical and spectroscopical one dimensional (1D) and 2D-NMR analysis, including heteronuclear multiple bond correlation and nuclear Overhauser enhancement spectroscopy.
Chemical composition and herbicidal activity of the essential oil from a Cistus ladanifer population from Spain
[EN] The essential oil composition of Cistus ladanifer grown in central Spain was analysed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, revealing it to be rich in oxygenated compounds, with trans-pinocarveol (20.00%), bornyl acetate (7.03%) and terpinen-4-ol (6.37%) as the main monoterpene compounds. Viridiflorol (13.59%) and ledol (4.36%) were the main constituents of the oxygenated sesquiterpene fraction. Large amounts of-pinene (4.70%) were found in the hydrocarbonated fractions. Composition and Antimicrobial Activity of Essential Oil ofAnthemis tenuisectaBall
Abstract The Chemical composition of the essential oil of Anthemis tenuisecta Ball. (Anthemideae) was analyzed by gas Chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Forty eight components accounting for 89.5 % of the oil were identified, being camphor (17.5 %), 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one (17.1 %), borneol (11.5 %), sesquicineole (11%) and camphene (5.7 %) the main compounds. In the antibacterial diffusion assay, the oil showed activity against Gram-positive bacteria.
Chemical composition of the essential oils fromEriocephalus africanus L. var.africanus populations growing in Spain
Essential oils from the aerial parts of three Eriocephalus africanus L. var. africanus populations were analysed by means of GC–FID and GC–MS. Sixty-one constituents were identified, representing more than 96% of the total oil composition. Artemisia ketone (56.46–56.58%), intermedeol (9.19–11.63%) and γ-eudesmol (4.26–5.64%) were the main compounds. Composition of the Essential Oil ofDictamnus hispanicusfrom Spain
The composition of the essential oil of Dictamnus hispanicus Webb ex. Willk. collected in eastern Spain was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The main constituents identified were methyl chavicol (79%) and limonene (7%). The high oil yield (72.0% fresh plant material) and the proportion of the main compounds support the consideration of D. hispanicus as a separate species of the S. and CS. Europe as D. albus aggregate or as a new chemotype of the polymorphic D. albus.
Chemical composition, herbicidal and antifungal activity of Satureja cuneifolia essential oils from Spain
The chemical composition of essential oils from Satureja cuneifolia growing in east Spain was analyzed by GC, GC/MS. Forty-five compounds accounting for 99.1% of the total oil were identified. Camphor (47.6%), followed by camphene (13.6%) were the main compounds. Composition and Antibacterial Activity of Essential Oils ofCladanthus arabicusCass. (Asteraceae)
Abstract The chemical composition of the essential oils of the aerial parts (stems and leaves: sample A) and flowers (sample B) of Cladanthus arabicus Cass., were analysed by GC-MS. Monoterpenes hydrocarbons constituted the main chemical group in both essential oils, with Sabinene, β-pinene, α-pinene, myrcene, α-phellandrene and p-cymene as the main compounds. Sample A was tested for its antimicrobial activity against six Gram positive and negative bacteria. Results showed that the oil exhibited a significant antibacterial activity.
Phytotoxic effects of Lantana camara, Eucalyptus camaldulensis and Eriocephalus africanus essential oils in weeds of Mediterranean summer crops
Abstract The essential oil composition of Lantana camara , Eucalyptus camaldulensis and Eriocephalus africanus was analyzed by means of GC and GC–MS and bioassayed in order to determine their activity against Amaranthus hybridus and Portulaca oleracea . E. camaldulensis essential oil, with spathulenol as the main compound, was the most effective, completely inhibiting germination and seedling growth on both weeds. Chemotaxonomic value of the essential oil compounds in species of Teucrium pumilum aggregate
Volatile compounds from the aerial parts of Teucrium lepicephalum Pau and Teucrium carolipaui C. Vicioso ex Pau, both belonging to the Teucrium pumilum aggregate, were analysed by capillary GC and GC-MS. From the common and specific compounds (mono- and sesquiterpenes) of the two taxa, chemical characterization was carried out and taxonomic relationships were assessed. Application of the cluster and k-means discriminant analysis shows a differential chemical relationship between T. lepicephalum and Teucrium carolipaui.
Essential oil analysis ofTeucrium libanitisandT. turredanumby GC and GC-MS
The chemical composition of the six essential oils obtained from Teucrium libanitis and Teucrium turredanum collected at different localities was analysed by GC and GC–MS. Fifty-three constituents were identified. The oil of T. libanitis is characterized by the monoterpene α-pinene (9.9–21.2%) and the sesquiterpene δ-cadinene (5.3–9.7%), while that of T. turredanum had a higher content of sesquiterpenoids: β-caryophyllene (15.6–32.6%), α-humulene (4.7–10.1%) and β-bisabolol (6.4–8.3%), and a lower percentage of monoterpenoids (<1%). Identification of Bioactive Compounds in Polar and Nonpolar Extracts of Araujia sericifera
Abstract Araujia sericifera is a native perennial, climbing laticiferous shrub from South America that is currently naturalized in many other countries. Previous data describe promising properties for A. sericifera, but no systematic study of its bioactive compounds and possible medicinal applications has been conducted to date. In the present study, aerial parts of A. sericifera (leaves, stems, and fruits) were explored by combining GC-MS and NMR spectroscopy analysis for both nonpolar (hexane) and polar (methanol) extracts. Chemical composition and antibacterial activity of essential oil of Pulicaria odora L.
The chemical composition of the volatile oil constituent from Pulicaria odora L. roots has been analyzed by GC/MS. Twenty-seven components were identified, being thymol (47.83%) and its derivative isobutyrate (30.05%) the main constituents in the oil. Furthermore, the oil was tested against seven bacteria at different concentrations. Results showed that the oil exhibited a significant antibacterial activity.
Herbicidal Activity of Peumus boldus and Drimys winterii Essential Oils from Chile
[EN] The essential oil composition of Peumus boldus and Drimys winterii was analyzed by means of capillary GC-FID and GC-MS. More than 96% of the total oil components (43 and 54 compounds, respectively) were identified, with ascaridole (51.17 ± 9.51), p-cymene (16.31 ± 2.52) and 1,8-cineole (14.45 ± 2.99) as the main compounds in P. boldus and ¿-eudesmol (21.65 ± 0.41), followed of elemol (12.03 ± 0.34) and terpinen-4-ol (11.56 ± 1.06) in D. winterii.
