A Search for Ultra-high-energy Neutrinos from TXS 0506+056 Using the Pierre Auger Observatory

Results of a search for ultra-high-energy neutrinos with the Pierre Auger Observatory from the direction of the blazar TXS 0506+056 are presented. They were obtained as part of the follow-up that stemmed from the detection of high-energy neutrinos and gamma rays with IceCube, Fermi-LAT, MAGIC, and other detectors of electromagnetic radiation in several bands. The Pierre Auger Observatory is sensitive to neutrinos in the energy range from 100 PeV to 100 EeV and in the zenith-angle range from θ = 60° to θ = 95°, where the zenith angle is measured from the vertical direction. No neutrinos from the direction of TXS 0506+056 have been found. The results were analyzed in three periods: One of 6 m…

Expression and regulation of PAX-9 and MSX-1 in embryonic and post-natal dental stem cells.

Introduction: Msx1and Pax9, are genes expressed in mesenchymal cells during the odontogenesis that are required for tooth formation. Our investigation aimed to study the expression of these genes in two sources of dental mesenchymal cells. Stem Cells from Human Exfoliated Deciduous teeth (SHED) and Human Embryonic Dental Mesenchymal Cells (HTM) were used. Regulation of gene expression in these cells by FGF, Wnt, BMP4 and Shh signalling pathways together with the effects of tooth matrix proteins (EMD) was investigated. Materials and Methods: Cells were grown in 6 well plates in 3 ml MSCGM medium (Lonza) containing Glutamax, 10% FBS and gentamicin Sulfate. Cells were grown to confluence and w…

Role of matrix metalloproteases 2, 9 (MMP-2, -9), orphanin FQ and others peptides in vascular tone of human umbilical cord at term

Umbilical cord is the structure that connects the fetus to the placenta. Umbilical cord at term is made of three vessels surrounded by the Wharton’s jelly, a mucous connective tissue rich in glycosaminoglycans, proteoglycans and different types of collagens and other microfibrils, which are responsible for its elasticity and its mechanical properties.Umbilical cord seems to lack any capillaries or lymphatics and umbilical vessels are unique in lacking any innervation; thus endothelial cells may play the major role in the local control of the blood flow. Objectives. In this paper we investigated in human umbilical cord at term the expression of some peptides involved in the regulation of the…

Cell Differenciation markers in human umbilical cord; an immunohistochemical study

The full-term human umbilical cord is made of three blood vessels ( two arteries and a vein) surrounded by the Wharthon's jelly, a soft cennective tissue made of new mesenchymal stromal cells and an abundant extracellular matrix. Both endothelial and Wharton's jelly are versdatile in their differenciation potential;tewhy have shown to be able to differentiate into sevaral cell lineages. Since the differentiation potential of these cells is very wide, we thought it could be interesting to investigate the expression of several cell differentiation markers in the different regions of human umbilical cord. Immunohistochemistry showed the expression of E- Cadherin and cytokeratyns in the amnioti…

Search for correlations between the arrival directions of IceCube neutrino events and ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays detected by the Pierre Auger Observatory and the Telescope Array

This paper presents the results of different searches for correlations between very high-energy neutrino candidates detected by IceCube and the highest-energy cosmic rays measured by the Pierre Auger Observatory and the Telescope Array. We first consider samples of cascade neutrino events and of high-energy neutrino-induced muon tracks, which provided evidence for a neutrino flux of astrophysical origin, and study their cross-correlation with the ultrahigh-energy cosmic ray (UHECR) samples as a function of angular separation. We also study their possible directional correlations using a likelihood method stacking the neutrino arrival directions and adopting different assumptions on the size…

Cytocheratins Identification in Human Umbilical Cord at Term.

Introduction. Cytokeratins (Cks) are the proteins that constitute intermediate filaments. The pattern of expression of cytokeratins is frequently organ or tissue specific and depends mainly on the type of epithelium, the level of differentiation and the stage of development. With this study we tried to make light on the pattern of expression of a wide range of CKs in human umbilical cord at term. Materials and methods. We investigated the expression of CKs through immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR assay. Results. AE1/AE3 antibody reacts with the basic CKs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, and with the acidic CKs 10, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 19. The reactivity for this antibody is localized in the amniotic…
