Group Analysis and the Self: The Political-Environmental-Transpersonal
1996
In this paper the authors try to put the basis for a new sense of group analysis, meant as the psychology of the field and the future, able to unblock saturated sets of meanings. Their work with groups has shown that there is a time in the group analytic process in which the individual explores the possibility of changeover. That time is also the space for the foundation of a new Self: the space for the difference, the space for the fight for giving and receiving'.
Effect of plant growth regulators and basal media onin vitro shoot proliferation and rooting ofMyrtus communis L.
1996
The influence of macronutrients and growth regulators on in vitro shoot proliferation and rooting of an East Spanish population ofMyrtus communis L. were studied. Preincubation of field material on a medium without mineral salts prevented the browning from phenolic exudates. For multiplication, nodal segments of 5 mm fromin vitro produced shoots were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS), Schenk and Hildebrandt (SH) and Heller (H) media (full strength or diluted to 1/2 or 1/4), with 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) at concentrations 4.4, 13.3 and 22.2 ΜM or kinetin (K) at concentrations 4.7, 14.0 and 23.2 ΜM. The optimum shoot proliferation was on quarter-strength MS medium with 4.4 ΜM BAP, whereas…
Analgesic Activity and Effects on Isolated Smooth Muscle of Different Fractions of Hexane Extract fromAraujia sericifera Brot
1996
The present study analyses the analgesic activity and action on in vitro motility of methanol soluble and methanol insoluble fractions obtained from the hexane extract of fruits from Araujia sericifera. The methanol fraction did not show any pharmacological activity on the different tests evaluated. However, the insoluble methanol fraction exhibited an interesting analgesic effect in models of chemical and thermal stimulus and it reduced the E max induced by histamine in vitro on guinea-pig ileum. This extract lacked any central depressor activity since it did not modify the number of mouse movements in the activity cage.
Dynamic behaviors of fractal-like domains in monolayers
1996
In this paper we report our recent investigations on the morphological evolution of fractal-like domains of the liquid-condensed (LC) phase in lipid monolayers. It is demonstrated that the dimension of the LC domains increases upon continuous illumination of microscope light. The experimental data indicate that the increasing rate of fractal dimension of the LC domains depends on the concentration of fluorescence probes. By analyzing the domain growth process we find that the self-similarity of the pattern disappears gradually during its growth. The possible mechanism behind the observed phenomena is discussed.
Genesi geometrica delle volte centriche
1996
Sum of ST-segment elevations on admission electrocardiograms in acute myocardial infarction predicts left ventricular dilation.
1996
In summary, ST-segment elevations on the admission electrocardiogram not only diagnose acute myocardial infarction but also provide predictive information with respect to developing infarct size and left ventricular remodeling as well as survival.
Glow Rate Technique for Spectroscopy of Complex Thermostimulated Relaxation Processes
1996
The glow rate technique (GRT) developed for the analysis of complex trap spectra, is the extension of the known heating rate method to the full glow curve. It is shown that using two glow curves measured at different heating rate constants, a special mean activation energy of simultaneously emptied traps can be obtained as a function of temperature or emitted light sum to a good approximation. Expressions have been derived for the calculation of the mean activation energy function from data measured using a linear, logarithmic or a hyperbolic heating mode. Theoretical expressions for the mean activation energy function have been obtained and discussed for arbitrary trap distribution functio…
The autoantigen La/SS-B: Analysis of the expression of alternatively spliced La mRNA isoforms
1996
The gene for the nuclear autoantigen La/SS-B encodes two La mRNA isoforms. In order to study the function and expression of both La mRNA forms, an in situ hybridization procedure was developed allowing the selective identification of either exon 1 or exon 1'. For this purpose, digoxigenin-labeled exon-specific sense and anti-sense probes were prepared by in vitro transcription from plasmids that contained the respective exon sequence. Detection of the probes was carried out by using rhodamine-conjugated anti-digoxigenin antibody and confocal laser scanning microscopy. Both La mRNAs were found in the cytoplasm of endothelial cells but not in smooth muscle cells. In addition to the in situ te…
Expression and cellular localization of kininogens in the human kidney
1996
Expression and cellular localization of kininogens in the human kidney. Human high (H) and low (L) molecular weight kininogens are encoded by distinct mRNAs derived by alternative splicing from a single kininogen gene. Previous studies have demonstrated the presence of L-kininogen but not of H-kininogen in the distal nephron structures of the kidney. Using the highly sensitive reverse trancriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) we have been able to demonstrate the expression of both H-kininogen mRNA and L-kininogen mRNA in kidney and liver. The presence of H- and L-kininogen antigen was shown immunohistochemically by applying specific antibodies that discriminate between the two types o…
Evidence for two isospin zeroJ PC=2−+ mesons at 1645 and 1875 MeV
1996
Data on\(\bar pp \to \eta \pi ^0 \pi ^0 \pi ^0 \) taken at beam momenta of 1.2 and 1.94 GeV/c reveal evidence for twoI=0JPC=2−+ resonances inηππ. The first, at 1645±14(stat.)±15(syst.) MeV with width 180−21+40±25 MeV, decays toα2(1320)π withL=0. It may be interpreted as the\(q\bar q^1 \)D2 partner ofπ2(1670). A strong signal is also observed just above threshold inf2(1270)η withL=0. It is 11–22 times stronger than is expected for the high mass tail of the 1645 MeV resonance. It can be fitted as a second 2−+ resonance at 1875±20±35 MeV with width 200±25±45 MeV. A third resonance havingJPC=2++ is observed at 2135±20±45 MeV withΛ=250±25±45 MeV, decaying to botha2(1320)π andf2(1270)η withL=1. T…
Spectrophotometric Determination of the Antihistamines, Carbinoxamine Maleate and Doxylamine Succinate, in anN-Cetylpyridinium Chloride Micellar Medi…
1996
Abstract The pyridine antihistamines carbinoxamine maleate and doxylamine succinate were derivatized by hydrolysis with cyanogen bromide and coupling with aniline to form a polymethine dye, and determined by colorimetry. In a micellar cationic medium of N-cetylpyridinium chloride (NCPC), the reaction times were reduced and the sensitivities improved. In 0.1 M NCPC the apparent molar absorptivities of the derivatives were 5,900 and 3,500 M−1 cm−1, and the limits of detection (as 3s) were 8.6x10−7 M and 1.7x106 M, for carbinoxamine and doxylamine, respectively. The sensitivity was enhanced in a three- to six-fold factor with respect to a non-micellar medium. The reproducibility was 0.8% for 1…
Monitoring of cortical blood flow: Clinical relevance of experimental laser Doppler studies
1996
Continuous monitoring of cortical blood flow provides real time information of CBF-changes during neurosurgical operations and on the neurointensive care unit. Laser Doppler flowmetry is a continuous, noninvasive technique suitable for measurement of the cortical microcirculation. In a number of experimental studies we have analyzed the characteristics of this method for cortical blood flow monitoring. The high spatial resolution of laser Doppler flowmetry and the heterogeneity of the cortical microvascular network results in a scatter of flow values over a wide range depending on the site of measurement. Data collection from different spots and calculation of frequency histogram may serve …
Zugangswege fr die Medikamentenapplikation bei Herzkreislaufstillstand
1996
Selecting a route for drug administration during CPR requires consideration of the speed with which access can be obtained, the technical difficulties involved in performing the procedure, the associated risk of complications, delays in drug delivery to the central circulation, and the duration of effective drug levels following injection. The peripheral venous route is the safest method, and drug delivery can be enhanced by a fluid bolus after injection of the medication. The circulation time is shortest after central venous injection, but there is some risk of complications. The femoral route is associated with a high incidence of unsuccessful catherization. The endotracheal tube provides…
Elevated serum E-selectin in patients with liver metastases of colorectal cancer
1996
E-selectin, an endothelial cell adhesion molecule, mediates the initial step of leucocyte adhesion to activated vascular endothelium. The soluble isoform of E-selectin promotes angiogenesis in rat cornea. In the present study, we investigated whether leucocyte adhesion and angiogenesis are also involved in tumour progression and metastasis of colorectal cancer. Therefore, we determined the level of circulating soluble E-selectin in serum samples of 38 patients with colorectal cancer; 20 patients with non-metastatic and 18 patients with metastatic disease. Median levels of soluble E-selectin were found to be significantly higher in metastatic tumour disease (88.7 ng/ml, range 25-203 ng/ml) t…
Copolymer Melts in Disordered Media
1996
The symmetric AB block copolymer melt in a gel matrix with preferential adsorption of A monomers on the gel gives an example of a random-field system, which is described near the point of the microphase separation transition by the random field Landau-Brazovskii Hamiltonian. By using the technique of the 2-nd Legendre transform, the phase diagram of the system is calculated. We found that the preferential adsorption of the copolymer on the gel results in two effects: a) It decreases the temperature of the first order phase transition between disordered and ordered phase. b) There exists a region on the phase diagram at some small but finite value of the adsorption energy in which the replic…
Stretch shortening cycle fatigue: interactions among joint stiness, reflex, and muscle mechanical performance in the drop jump
1996
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of strenuous stretch-shortening cycle exercise on the relationship between reflex and stiffness regulation during the drop jump. Ten healthy male subjects performed submaximal stretch-shortening cycle exercise on a special sledge apparatus. Exhaustion occurred on average within 3 min. A drop jump test from a 50-cm height was performed immediately before and after the sledge exercise, as well as 2 h, 2 days and 4 days later. The fatigue exercise showed relatively high blood lactate concentrations 12.5 (SD 2.6) mmol·l−1 and a 2-day delayed increase of serum cretaine kinase concentration. In drop jumps, the short latency M1 compone…
Low back pain and other overuse injuries in a group of Japanese triathletes.
1996
OBJECTIVE: To document the incidence of low back pain and other overuse injuries in a group of triathletes, and to investigate any associations with various physical and triathlon related factors. METHODS: By means of a questionnaire, the physical characteristics, training habits, and the incidences of overuse injuries of 92 Japanese triathletes (70 males, 22 females) were documented. Student's t and chi 2 tests were used to determine the significance of any associations with injury incidence, as well as differences between subjects experiencing or not experiencing low back pain in the previous year. RESULTS: Low back pain was experienced by 32% of subjects in the previous year. The majorit…
Norm continuity and related notions for semigroups on Banach spaces
1996
We find some conditions on a c0-semigroup on a Banach space and its resolvent connected with the norm continuity of the semigroup. We use them to get characterizations of norm continuous, eventually norm continuous and eventually compact semigroups on Hilbert spaces in terms of the growth of the resolvent of their generator.
Two-body photodisintegration of the deuteron from 100 to 800 MeV
1996
Abstract The total and the differential cross sections for the D(γ,p)n reaction have been measured over the photon energy range 100-800 MeV at the 855 MeV MAMI Microtron in Mainz. Using the large acceptance detector DAPHNE in conjunction with the Glasgow tagging spectrometer, high precision results with small systematic errors were obtained. The data are presented in the form of thirty-five angular distributions at c.m. proton angles between 30°–160° in 10° intervals and at photon energies in steps of 20 MeV. Previous experimental work is reassessed in the light of the present results and comparison with some recent theoretical calculations.
X-ray powder diffraction study of the stability of solid solutions in (La1−xGdx)OCl
1996
The formation of the solid solutions in the (La1−xGdx)OCl series was studied by X-ray powder diffraction (XPD) at room temperature in the 2θ region between 6.5 and 120°. The Rietveld profile refinement analyses of the XPD patterns were carried out with the background, unit cell, atomic position, isotropic temperature, and Gaussian profile form parameters refined freely. All (La1−xGdx)OCl samples possessed the tetragonal PbFCl-type structure with P4/nmm as the space group (Z=2). The unit cell parameters a and c evolve smoothly through the series and no clustering of the Gd3+ ions was observed according to Vegard's law. The solid solubility exists throughout the whole series. The valence bond…
Manipulation of the ferroelectricity in LC polymers via photomechanical isomerization of azobenzene moieties
1996
We report the synthesis and characterization of a new ferroelectric liquid crystalline side chain copolymer containing photoisomerizable chromophores and non-photoisomerizable mesogenic units. On illumination with UV-light a suppression of the polar order is obtained as indicated by a substantial drop of the spontaneous polarization (Ps) compared to the dark state. We interpret this as the phase order being disrupted by the cis-isomer of the chromophore. After illumination with VIS-light only the major part of Ps is restored. The photochemical cis-trans back-isomerization (restoration of the phase) leads to a different stationary state than the dark state of the material. The thermal reisom…
Rice protoplasts isolated directly from mature-embryo-derived calli
1996
Mature-embryo-derived calli of japonica rice (Oryza sativa L) Taipei 309 were used for replicated protoplast isolation experiments. Six out of nine callus lines produced protoplasts with satisfactory yield of 5.20×106–8.96×106 protoplasts/g FW (fresh weight). The remaining three callus lines initiated from seeds of cryopreserved-callus-derived plants had rooty calli, resulting in low yield of protoplasts and a large number of isolated banana-shape intact cells. Viability of protoplasts ranged 87.46%–94.15%. The average size of protoplasts was 207.49–379.04 μm2 in different callus lines. Comparitive experiments were also carried out using both calli and suspension culture cells for protoplas…

On finite products of totally permutable groups
1996
In this paper the structure of finite groups which are the product of two totally permutable subgroups is studied. In fact we can obtain the -residual, where is a formation, -projectors and -normalisers, where is a saturated formation, of the group from the corresponding subgroups of the factor subgroups.
Developing a Curriculum for Mentally Retarded Adults ‐‐ a cooperative project between the university and the practitioners
1996
Abstract As recently as six years ago, after their compulsory education was over, it was very difficult for severely and profoundly mentally retarded people in Finland to receive further education. The regional units within the social‐services sector financed a four‐year project which was carried out at the University of Jyvdskyld, during this project an adult‐education plan was produced, its implementation was monitored and the content of adult education and the training of staff was developed. During the experiment the mentally retarded people involved became more actively involved in the different activities, and a considerable improvement was observed in their independent daily living s…
Kinetics of citrate uptake in growing cells ofLeuconostocspp.
1996
Citrate uptake was studied in growing cells of Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides. A Michaelis-Menten pattern with the dianionic form of citrate as the limiting substrate has been proposed. It was validated for different fermentations varying the initial citrate concentrations and the pH medium. This latter did not modify the rate of the process which was clearly confirmed using experiments with resting cells. The model was used to compare the kinetics of citrate consumption between several strains of Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides, Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. cremoris and Leuconostoc lactis.
Occurrence and Genesis of Palygorskite and Associated Clay Minerals in a Pleistocene Calcrete Complex, Sde Boqer, Negev Desert, Israel
1996
AbstractPalygorskite and associated clay minerals have been studied in a Pleistocene calcrete complex from the Negev desert (Sde Boqer, Israel). This complex is divided into five main parts: the chalky and marly bedrock overlain by its weathered product, a brecciated calcrete hardpan; the laminar crust; loess pockets trapped in the calcrete; and the overlying soft surficial soil. The distribution of clay minerals is directly dependent on the position of the sample in the calcrete complex. Smectite is inherited from the bedrock in the calcrete with an aeolian enrichment in loess pockets and upper soft soil. The source of kaolinite is mainly detrital, related to desert dust. Illite is partly …

El tratamiento efectuado fue la embolizacion de las malformaciones en una unidad de…
In-vitro and Ex-vivo Inhibition of Blood Platelet Aggregation by Naftazone
1996
Abstract Because of the considerable interest in the role of platelets and antiplatelet therapy in cardiovascular disease, including the aggregation of platelets to each other during arterial thrombosis and atherogenesis, we have studied the effect of naftazone (Etioven), an original vasculotropic drug on platelet aggregation. Rat and human platelets were prepared and incubated in-vitro with different concentrations of naftazone. We found that naftazone inhibited both platelet secretion and aggregation in platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and washed platelets after stimulation with thrombin or ADP. Rats were also treated intraperitoneally for five days with various naftazone doses (0.125-10 mg kg−…
Physical loading and performance as predictors of back pain in healthy adults. A 5-year prospective study.
1996
We investigated muscle strength, aerobic power, and occupational and leisure-time physical loading as predictors of back pain in a 5-year follow-up study. A cohort of 456 adults aged 25, 35, 45 and 55 years, free of back pain, participated in measurements of anthropometric characteristics, aerobic power and muscle strength characteristics at baseline. The subjects' levels and types of physical activity and occupational physical loading were also determined. At 5 years after the baseline examinations 356 of these subjects (78.1 %) were reached by mail, and 262 of them (73.6%) properly completed and returned a questionnaire including a detailed back pain history for the 5 years following the …

Effects of bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF alpha) on rat tracheal epithelial cells in culture: morphology, …
1996
Rat tracheal epithelial cells were cultured and the effects of LPS and TNF alpha on cell morphology, rate of proliferation and NO synthase activity were studied. NO synthase activity was determined by measuring the accumulation of 3H-L-citrulline during incubation of confluent monolayer with 3H-L-arginine. In untreated cells no significant 3H-L-citrulline formation was detected, and bradykinin and the calcium ionophore A 23187 failed to stimulate 3H-L-citrulline formation excluding a constitutively expressed, calcium-dependent NO synthase activity. After culturing the cells for 18 h in the presence of LPS (10 micrograms/ml) and TNF alpha (500 U/ml) a marked formation of 3H-L-citrulline coul…
Drei-Phasen-Spiral-CT in der Diagnostik von Lebererkrankungen: Vergleich mit CT-Arteriographie und -Arterioportographie
1996
PURPOSE Assessment of the diagnostic efficacy of triphasic spiral-CT scanning (TPS-CT) for liver disease evaluation. CT arteriography (CTA) and CT arterio-portography (CTAP) were used as reference, methods which together have the highest sensitivity for detecting tumours and the perfusion conditions of the liver. MATERIAL AND METHODS 50 TPS-CT and CTA/CTPA were performed in 49 patients. After an initial examination without enhancement the first scan was initiated 15-25s after the peripheral bolus injection of contrast medium, the second after an interscan delay of 20-25s. By this means the liver was imaged in different phases of perfusion. In the course of the CTA/CTPA-exam the imaging was …
Stereotactically guided cavernous malformation surgery.
1996
The incidence of a significant hemorrhage in the natural history of cavernomas is below 1% per year, but the risk of a second hemorrhage in patients with initial bleeding cavernomas is between 14% and 29%. In the light of these figures, all cavernomas ought to be resected if surgical-related morbidity can be minimized. Stereotactically guided neurosurgery offers the advantage of planning the least traumatic approach before craniotomy due to the knowledge of the exact localisation of the lesion. During a 2-year period 12 patients (age 16-54 years) with intracranial supratentorial cavernomas (size 0.5-1.8 cm) were treated by stereotactically guided microsurgery. The cavernomas were seated in …
