The most abundant fatty acids were C18: 1w9, C19: 0 cy(w9,10) and C16:0, followed by C16: 1w9 and C14: 0. The pH considerably modified the fatty acid distribution in Lo107 (an acidophilic strain) and Lo8413 (a moderately acidophilic strain). Quantum chemical calculations of the electron center diffusion in MgO crystals

Large-scale quantum chemical simulations of the diffusion hops of empty cation and anion vacancies, as well as F + and F centers in MgO crystals have been done. The atomic configurations for 224-site cluster and charge density distribution are analyzed for the equilibrium and saddle-point configurations during the defect hops. The relevant activation energy for diffusion increases monotonically in the series V a → F + → F center.

Shot-by-shot frequency calibration of CARS spectra: Application to the measurement of the collisional line shift in oxygen

A technique using a Fabry-Perot interferometer has been developed to calibrate high-resolution spectra obtained by Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy (CARS). This technique was used to measure simultaneously the Raman frequency and the Raman signal at each laser shot. We demonstrate the accuracy of the method by measuring theQ(15) line shifts of molecular oxygen due to collisions with oxygen and water vapour.

PBL from 68 RA patients and 44 controls were evaluated. The structure of Nambu-Poisson brackets is studied and we establish that any Nambu tensor is decomposable. We show that every Nambu-Poisson manifold admits a local foliation by canonical Nambu-Poisson manifolds. Finally, a cohomology for Nambu (Lie) algebras which is adapted to the study of formal deformations of Nambu structures is introduced.

Operational efficiency of a pilot plant for wastewater reuse

Reuse of wastewaters for non-potable uses needs a higher than normal reliability in treatment plant operation and management, in order to ensure higher safety margins for public health and environmental protection. After a two-years research project on a pilot plant designed for agricoltural reuse, all control parameters used for the plant operation have been examined, in order to obtain useful observations on efficiency of each of the treatment units, for best overall performance. On melting of two-dimensional monolayer films

The melting of two-dimensional films formed on the (100) fcc crystal is studied by Monte Carlo simulation. The results obtained suggest that in systems with only weakly corrugated surface potential, exhibiting the hexagonal close packed solid structure, the melting transition is followed by the lsing-like transition as predicted by the theory of Nelson and Halperin. In the case of highly corrugated surface potential, the film forms registered structure which disorders gradually as the temperature is raised.

Glucose-galactose malabsorption (GGM) is an autosomal recessive disorder which presents with severe osmotic diarrhoea shortly after birth. Two proband siblings with GGM were previously demonstrated to contain a missense mutation (D28N) in the Na + -dependent glucose/galactose cotransporter (SGLTI) that accounts for the defect in sugar absorption. In order to gain further mechanistical information about the cyclization of thiosemicarbazones and thiosemicarbazone-type substrates induced by metallic salts as oxidizing agents, we performed the synthesis of substrates 1a-s and a kinetic study of the oxidative cyclization of 1 to 5-imino-Δ2-1,3,4-thiadiazole 2 and 1,2,4-triazoline-5-thione 3 derivatives induced by methanolic ferric chloride solutions. The results of cyclization were compared to those of corresponding semicarbazones. The kinetic data were analyzed by means of the Hammett's equation and ρ values discussed.

Prevalence of yeasts in 35 leukoplakia and 34 oral lichen planus patients was compared with that observed in persons without oral diseases. Serotype and morphotype were determined on Candida albicans isolates. Yeasts were isolated from the oral cavity specimens of 43.7% of the patients. C. albicans (serotype A) was the predominant species (76% in leukoplakia, 88.2% in lichen planus and 60.8% in healthy persons). Sixteen morphotypes were encountered on malt extract agar, being 732, 733, 734, 753 and 754 the most frequently found. Having observed that tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha and doxorubicin (DXR) produce a synergistic inhibition of melanoma B16 and also of its multidrug resistant (MDR) variant in vitro, we tested whether this interaction would occur in vivo as well. C57BL/6 mice with s.c. tumors were treated with TNF or flavone acetic acid (FAA), a biological response modifier, in simultaneous or sequential combination with DXR. International audience; We show that, in the weak amplitude and slow time limits, the discrete equations describing the dynamics of a one-dimensional lattice can be reduced to a modified Ablowitz-Ladik equation. The stability of a continuous wave solution is then investigated without and with periodic boundary conditions; Energy localization via modulational instability is predicted. The isotope {sup 181}Pb was produced in {sup 92}Mo bombardments of {sup 90}Zr and, together with other reaction products, was passed through a recoil mass separator and implanted in a double-sided silicon strip detector for {alpha}-particle assay. The half-life and energy of the main {sup 181}Pb {alpha} transition were determined to be 45 (20) ms and 7065 (20) keV, respectively.
