The Interaction of Person-Affect-Cognition-Execution (I-PACE) model for addictive behaviors: Update, generalization to addictive behaviors beyond int…

2019

We propose an updated version of the Interaction of Person-Affect-Cognition-Execution (I-PACE) model, which we argue to be valid for several types of addictive behaviors, such as gambling, gaming, buying-shopping, and compulsive sexual behavior disorders. Based on recent empirical findings and theoretical considerations, we argue that addictive behaviors develop as a consequence of the interactions between predisposing variables, affective and cognitive responses to specific stimuli, and executive functions, such as inhibitory control and decision-making. In the process of addictive behaviors, the associations between cue-reactivity/craving and diminished inhibitory control contribute to th…

Language is not a gadget.

2019

Abstract Heyes does well to argue that some of the apparently innate human capabilities for cultural learning can be considered in terms of more general-purpose mechanisms. In the application of this to language, she overlooks some of its most interesting properties. I review three, and then illustrate how mindreading can come from general-purpose mechanism via language.

Early development of filial preferences in the rabbit: implications of nursing- and pheromone-induced odour learning?

2008

Newborn rabbits, Oryctolagus cuniculus, discriminate between different categories of adult conspecifics on the basis of their abdominal odour cues. Whether these cues can support the development of filial preferences has not been adequately tested. Using a two-choice paradigm, we assessed the ability of 3–8-day-old pups to orient selectively to the mother versus an unfamiliar female, either spontaneously or after odour conditioning. In experiment 1, nonconditioned pups roamed indifferently over the mother and an unfamiliar female. In experiment 2, pups conditioned to a neutral odorant while nursing or with the mammary pheromone became attracted by the odorant. In experiment 3, pups that had…

La dépense d'éducation des familles : une analyse comparative

1998

The private expenditures in education put to the economist some methodological difficulties since it concerns, for the essential, a domain with imperfect public goods. One compares here, for various countries, especially inside the EU, the average division of the expense between families and the collectivities, the observation is that the diversity. In a time second are compared educative expenses for two countries distanced on the scale of the economic development, the social group of the family is a primary determining for the orientation of expenses. Finally an analysis on long period run confirms family strategies in agreement with the human capital theory.

The article focus on the occitan success of Arnaut Daniel’s sestina in the wake of the other poe…

Submersed in the water, buried in the ground: comparative studies on metal assemblages and single finds from french Iron Age non-funerary contexts (V…

2020

Metal hoards are emblematic discoveries of European protohistoric societies and therefore an extremely dynamic research theme. However, even though there are many synthetic studies concerning Bronze Age practices, they are much less frequent concerning Iron Age deposits. In fact, since 1995 (Kurz 1995), no synthetic inventory on this subject had been carried out despite the regular increase in the number of discoveries since the development and multiplication of preventive archaeological excavations. Under these conditions, it seemed important to update the data and this led to the completion of a master's degree on this subject in 2011 (Le Cozanet 2011). Since then, our research hasn‘t cea…

The fine structural organization of sternal glands of pseudergates and workers in termites (Isoptera): a comparative survey

2008

1873-5495 (Electronic) Comparative Study Journal Article; Thirty-nine species belonging to different families of termites are studied to give a comprehensive view of the evolution of the sternal glands. Several modifications occurring at cuticular and cytological levels are described in neuter castes. The outer epicuticle is always pierced by epicuticular pores. In advanced termites the epicuticular filaments greatly increase in number and length creating a thick layer. The pore canals gradually enlarge while the cuticle changes into a lattice structure lining an extracellular space in which the secretion is stored. Two classes of cells are present in basal termites (Mastotermitidae, Hodote…

Fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA): Guidelines for research practice in Information Systems and marketing

2021

Abstract The increasing interest in fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) in Information Systems and marketing raises the need for a tutorial paper that discusses the basic concepts and principles of the method, provide answers to typical questions that editors, reviewers, and authors would have when dealing with a new tool of analysis, and practically guide researchers on how to employ fsQCA. This article helps the reader to gain richer information from their data and understand the importance of avoiding shallow information‐from‐data reporting. To this end, it proposes a different research paradigm that includes asymmetric, configurational‐focused case‐outcome theory construc…

Identifying the combinations of motivations and emotions for creating satisfied users in SNSs: An fsQCA approach

2020

Social Networking Sites (SNSs) play an important role in our daily lives and the number of their users increases regularly. To understand how users can be satisfied in the complex digital environment of SNSs, this study examines how motivations and emotions combine with each other to explain high satisfaction. Users’ motivations comprise four attributes, entertainment, information, social-psychological, and convenience. Emotions are divided into their two main categories, that is positive and negative emotions. We draw on complexity and configuration theories, present a conceptual model along with propositions and perform a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). Through an empi…

Time in Associative Learning: A Review on Temporal Maps

2021

Ability to recall the timing of events is a crucial aspect of associative learning. Yet, traditional theories of associative learning have often overlooked the role of time in learning association and shaping the behavioral outcome. They address temporal learning as an independent and parallel process. Temporal Coding Hypothesis is an attempt to bringing together the associative and non-associative aspects of learning. This account proposes temporal maps, a representation that encodes several aspects of a learned association, but attach considerable importance to the temporal aspect. A temporal map helps an agent to make inferences about missing information by applying an integration mechan…
