Diagnòstic; Malalties fúngiques invasores; Pneumocystis Diagnóstico; Enfermedades fúngicas invasivas; Pneumocystis Diagnosis; Invasive fungal diseases; Pneumocystis The Fungal Infections Definitions in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients (FUNDICU) project aims to provide standard sets of definitions for invasive fungal diseases (IFDs) in critically ill, adult patients, including invasive aspergillosis (IA), invasive candidiasis (IC), Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP), and other non-IA, non-IC IFDs. The first step of the project was the conduction of separated systematic reviews of the characteristics and applicability to critically ill, adult patients outside classical populations at ri…
Problem prawdy w komunikacji z pacjentem o złym rokowaniu. Punkt widzenia bioetyka i teologa
2016
The patient, who is very ill, is confronted with overwhelming diagnosis for their state of health at a certain point of life. It would seem that “the problem of truth” raised in this context concerns the problem whether to pass the information about a negative prognosis or not. It turns out, however, that the point is more about realizing the truth together and communicating on the basis of the truth. The information, which is to reach the terminal patient, is not supposed to kill him or her after all, but to encourage him or her to fiht for his or her life. What are the ways of the mobilization and what is the role of truth in this situation? – that is the essence of the eponymous issue. I…
Clinical and radiographic diagnosis of approximal and occlusal dental caries in a low risk population
2007
Objective: Determine the agreement between visual detection, conventional radiology and digital radiology methods in the diagnosis of interproximal and occlusal caries in the posterior teeth of a group of patients with low caries prevalence. Materials and Methods: Visual, conventional radiographic and digital radiographic (Digora®, Soredex, Sweden) caries diagnosis was performed in a group of patients (n=30) of both sexes with ages ranging from 15 to 65 years (x = 34 years). Agreement was estimated by the linear weighted kappa index. Results: Kappa = 0.17 was obtained between the visual examination and the conventional radiographic examination and Kappa = 0.16 between the visual examination…
Quantitative Rotor Broken Bar Evaluation in Double Squirrel Cage Induction Machines under Dynamic Operating Conditions
2013
Advanced monitoring techniques leading to fault diagnosis and prediction of induction machine faults, operating under non-stationary conditions have gained strength because of its considerable influence on the operational continuation of many industrial processes. In case of rotor broken bars, fault detection based on sideband components issued from currents, flux, instantaneous control or power signals under different load conditions, may fail due to the presence of inter-bar currents that reduce the degree of rotor asymmetry, especially for double squirrel cage induction motors. But the produced core vibrations in the axial direction, can be investigated to overcome the limitation of the …
A Forensic Diagnostic Algorithm for Drug-Related Deaths: A Case Series
2022
The best evidence provided in the literature worldwide suggests the importance of harmonizing the investigation in drug-related fatalities. In this study, the application of a multidisciplinary approach in eight cases of drug-related deaths is presented. Although death scene findings could be highly suggestive of drug intoxication, external examination and toxicological screening test alone are insufficient. There are several variables, and it is not always easy to give the proper interpretation of the drug detection. A complete autopsy is necessary to correctly complete organ and tissues sampling for further histological and toxicological studies and obtain body fluids. The use of peripher…
Supporting Diagnosis and Treatment of Scoliosis: Using Augmented Reality to Calculate 3D Spine Models in Real-Time - ARScoliosis
2020
Scoliosis is a complex spinal disorder that mostly affects adolescents and younger population. To avoid and reduce harmful radiation techniques in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis investigation and follow-ups, a novel non-invasive approach is highly recommended and needed in clinical practice. In this paper ARScoliosis application to diagnose, visualize and document spinal condition and particularly adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in real time is presented. This ARScoliosis application is developed in Unity 3D, a game engine, and allows non-invasive quantification of posture and spinal deformity using recently available non-ionizing wide-angle depth sensor Microsoft Azure Kinect DK as a diag…
Tumor de células de la granulosa extraovárico con mutación FOXL2. Diagnóstico diferencial morfológico e inmunohistoquímico
2020
Extraovarian granulosa cell tumor is a very uncommon tumor and the identification of a recurrent mutation in FOXL2 may be used as another diagnostic tool along with the classical morphological and immunohistochemical findings. Here, we report a new case of extraovarian granulosa cell tumor in a 57 years old female patient presented with a sub-hepatic mass and abdominal pain. Histopathological examination of the excised mass showed features of adult-type granulosa cell tumor with α-inhibin, calretinin, WT1, S100, CD99 and progesterone receptor immunoreactivity. A FOXL2 mutation was detected on molecular biology study. A final diagnosis was an extraovarian adult-type granulosa cell tumor. We …
Fitz-hugh-curtis syndrome secondary to postpartum endometritis: Case Report and literature review
2021
We report a case of Fitz‑Hugh‑Curtis syndrome (FHCS) 1 week after an urgent cesarean section. Although its onset in the postpartum period is poorly reported in the literature, we suggest that FHCS can complicate puerperal endometritis; therefore, it should be consider in differential diagnosis in puerpera with right upper quadrant pain. Again, it can be useful to perform a contrast computed tomography that allows early diagnosis and conservative treatment
AUTOMATIC RETINA EXUDATES SEGMENTATION WITHOUT A MANUALLY LABELLED TRAINING SET
2011
International audience; Diabetic macular edema (DME) is a common vision threatening complication of diabetic retinopathy. In a large scale screening environment DME can be assessed by detecting exudates (a type of bright lesions) in fundus images. In this work, two new methods for the detection of exudates are presented. The methods do not require a lesion training set so the need to ground-truth data is avoided with significant time savings and independence from human error. We evaluate our algorithm with a new publicly available dataset from various ethnic groups and levels of DME. Also, we compare our results with two recent exudate segmentation algorithms on the same dataset. In all of …
