Tuning Reductive and Oxidative Photoinduced Electron Transfer in Amide‐Linked Anthraquinone–Porphyrin–Ferrocene Architectures

Porphyrin amino acids 3a–3h with meso substituents Ar of tunable electron-donating power (Ar = 4-C6H4OnBu, 4-C6H4OMe, 4-C6H4Me, Mes, C6H5, 4-C6H4F, 4-C6H4CF3, C6F5) have been linked at the N terminus to anthraquinone Q as electron acceptor through amide bonds to give Q-PAr dyads 4a–4h. These were conjugated to ferrocene Fc at the C terminus as electron donor to give the acceptor-chromophore-donor Q-PAr-Fc triads 6a–6h. To further modify the energies of the electronically excited and charge-separated states, the triads 6a–6h were metallated with zinc(II) to give the corresponding Q-(Zn)PAr-Fc triads Zn-6a–Zn-6h. Abstract The reaction of the heterobimetallic phosphido- and hydrido-bridged complexes Cp 2 TaH(μ-H)(μ-PMe 2 )M′(CO) 4 (M′ = Cr, Mo, W) ( 1–3 ) with phosphines (L = PPh 2 Me, PMe 2 Ph) or diphosphines (L = dmpm, dmpe) leads to Cp 2 Ta(H) 2 (μ-PMe 2 )M′(CO) 4 (L) ( 1a, 1b, c, d-3b, c, d ) with L regiospecifically coordinated to M′. Except for L = PPh 2 Me, the reaction is stereospecific, since a cis arrangement (with respect to the PMe 2 bridge) on the M′ site is obtained. The significance of serum soluble IL-2 receptor as a marker for active visceral leishmaniasis in Sicilian patients

SUMMARY Sera from nine Sicilian patients with confirmed visceral leishmaniasis (Leishmania donovani infantum; VL), at the moment of the diagnosis, during the course of the disease and after clinical recovery, were analysed for the concentration of soluble IL-2 receptor (sIL-2R). The results show that sIL-2R is a marker of disease activity, since it is in high concentration at the beginning of infection and returns to the normal range following successful chemotherapy. Purpose To evaluate and compare intraocular pressures (IOPs) during flap preparations performed using 2 femtosecond lasers and a mechanical microkeratome in human donor globes. Recurrent leishmaniasis in kidney transplant recipients: Report of 2 cases and systematic review of the literature

The characteristics of 8 episodes of leishmaniasis with atypical manifestations in 2 Italian kidney transplant recipients are analyzed and contextualized among those of 52 other episodes of leishmaniasis observed in 19 transplant recipients found through a systematic review of the international literature. In all the patients, the initial episode was visceral leishmaniasis, which was associated with mucocutaneous involvement in 2 cases. With the exception of 1 case of post kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis, 2 episodes of Leishmania endophthalmitis, and 3 episodes of mucocutaneous leishmaniasis, all the recurrences were characterized by visceral involvement. Alpha-1-antitrypsin-induced inhibition of complement-dependent phagocytosis.

Abstract In a previous investigation, inhibition of complement-dependent rosette formation by alpha1-antitrypsin (α1-AT) was observed, and it was demonstrated that α1-AT interacts through its carbohydrate portion with C3 and its fragments. In the present study, the effect of α1-AT on the complement-receptor-mediated phagocytosis by human peripheral blood monocytes was examined. Purified α1-AT inhibited in a dose-dependent manner phagocytosis of C3-carrying yeast particles. Inhibition was selective, concerned only C3-receptor-mediated phagocytosis, neither Fc-receptor-mediated phagocytosis nor uptake of untreated yeast particles was blocked by α1-AT. Coordination isomerism in spin crossover (SCO) materials

International audience; A new series of three spin crossover (SCO) Fe(II) complexes based on a cyanocarbanion and on the neutral quinolin-8-amine (aqin) ligands, [Fe(aqin)2(tcnsme)2] (1), [Fe(aqin)2(tcnset)2] (2), and [Fe(aqin)2(tcnspr)2] (3), has been studied. The three complexes display similar molecular structures consisting of discrete [Fe(aqin)2(tcnsR)2] complexes [R = Me (1), Et (2), and Pr (3)]. Electrochromic polyoxometalate material as a sensor of bacterial activity

L. fermentum, a bacterium of human microbiota, acts as an electron donor to the electrochromic [P2MoVI18O62]6. Since, the reductive capacity of L. fermentum correlates with its metabolic activity, the reaction with [P2MoVI18O62]6- affords a means of evaluating its activity. Following this logic, we have concluded that vancomycin severely affects the activity of L. fermentum whereas omeprazole does not.
