Asymptotic Behaviors of Solutions to quasilinear elliptic Equations with critical Sobolev growth and Hardy potential
2015
Abstract Optimal estimates on the asymptotic behaviors of weak solutions both at the origin and at the infinity are obtained to the following quasilinear elliptic equations − Δ p u − μ | x | p | u | p − 2 u = Q ( x ) | u | N p N − p − 2 u , x ∈ R N , where 1 p N , 0 ≤ μ ( ( N − p ) / p ) p and Q ∈ L ∞ ( R N ) .
Modular Calabi-Yau threefolds of level eight
2005
In the studies on the modularity conjecture for rigid Calabi-Yau threefolds several examples with the unique level 8 cusp form were constructed. According to the Tate Conjecture correspondences inducing isomorphisms on the middle cohomologies should exist between these varieties. In the paper we construct several examples of such correspondences. In the constructions elliptic fibrations play a crucial role. In fact we show that all but three examples are in some sense built upon two modular curves from the Beauville list.
Morse-Smale index theorems for elliptic boundary deformation problems.
2012
AbstractMorse-type index theorems for self-adjoint elliptic second order boundary value problems arise as the second variation of an energy functional corresponding to some variational problem. The celebrated Morse index theorem establishes a precise relation between the Morse index of a geodesic (as critical point of the geodesic action functional) and the number of conjugate points along the curve. Generalization of this theorem to linear elliptic boundary value problems appeared since seventies. (See, for instance, Smale (1965) [12], Uhlenbeck (1973) [15] and Simons (1968) [11] among others.) The aim of this paper is to prove a Morse–Smale index theorem for a second order self-adjoint el…
The cyclicity of the elliptic segment loops of the reversible quadratic Hamiltonian systems under quadratic perturbations
2004
Abstract Denote by Q H and Q R the Hamiltonian class and reversible class of quadratic integrable systems. There are several topological types for systems belong to Q H ∩ Q R . One of them is the case that the corresponding system has two heteroclinic loops, sharing one saddle-connection, which is a line segment, and the other part of the loops is an ellipse. In this paper we prove that the maximal number of limit cycles, which bifurcate from the loops with respect to quadratic perturbations in a conic neighborhood of the direction transversal to reversible systems (called in reversible direction), is two. We also give the corresponding bifurcation diagram.
Some remarks on nonsmooth critical point theory
2006
A general min-max principle established by Ghoussoub is extended to the case of functionals f which are the sum of a locally Lipschitz continuous term and of a convex, proper, lower semicontinuous function, when f satisfies a compactness condition weaker than the Palais-Smale one, i.e., the so-called Cerami condition. Moreover, an application to a class of elliptic variational-hemivariational inequalities in the resonant case is presented. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2007.

Quasilinear elliptic equations with singular quadratic growth terms
2011
In this paper, we deal with positive solutions for singular quasilinear problems whose model is [Formula: see text] where Ω is a bounded open set of ℝN, g ≥ 0 is a function in some Lebesgue space, and γ > 0. We prove both existence and nonexistence of solutions depending on the value of γ and on the size of g.
On the rigidity theorem for elliptic genera
2018
We give a detailed proof of the rigidity theorem for elliptic gen- era. Using the Lefschetz fixed point formula we carefully analyze the relation between the characteristic power series defining the elliptic genera and the equivariant elliptic genera. We show that equivariant elliptic genera converge to Jacobi functions which are holomorphic. This implies the rigidity of elliptic genera. Our approach can be easily modified to give a proof of the rigidity theorem for the elliptic genera of level N.

Seeking the Holy Grail: robust chronologies from archaeology and radiocarbon dating combined
2018
The strengths of formal Bayesian chronological modelling are restated, combining as it does knowledge of the archaeology with the radiocarbon dating of carefully chosen samples of known taphonomy in association with diagnostic material culture. The risks of dating bone samples are reviewed, along with a brief history of the development of approaches to the radiocarbon dating of bone. In reply to Strien (2017), selected topics concerned with the emergence and aftermath of the LBK are discussed, as well as the early Vinča, Ražište and Hinkelstein sequences. The need for rigour in an approach which combines archaeology and radiocarbon dating is underlined.
