Volumetric variation of peri-implant soft tissues in convergent collar implants and crowns using the biologically oriented preparation technique (BOP…

2018

Background To evaluate the changes in the peri-implant soft tissues of convergent collar implants with biologically oriented preparation technique (BOPT) crowns, 10 months after loading. Material and Methods A pilot study was carried out from January 2016 to October 2017 involving 14 patients with one or two implants in the posterior mandibular sector. A total of 32 convergent collar implants were placed using a non-submerged protocol. Three months later the provisional cemented crowns were fitted using the BOPT approach with the finish line 1-1.5 mm below the gingival margin, simulating coronal emergence of a natural tooth. The soft tissue changes were measured with an intraoral scanner at…

Effects of Dietary Supplementation with Honeybee Pollen and Its Supercritical Fluid Extract on Immune Response and Fillet’s Quality of Farmed G…

2022

The awareness of the correlation between administered diet, fish health and products’ quality has led to the increase in the research for innovative and functional feed ingredients. Herein, a plant-derived product rich in bioactive compounds, such as honeybee pollen (HBP), was included as raw (HBP) and as Supercritical Fluid Extracted (SFE) pollen (HBP_SFE) in the diet for gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata). The experiment was carried out on 90 fish with an average body weight of 294.7 ± 12.8 g, divided into five groups, according to the administration of five diets for 30 days: control diet (CTR); two diets containing HBP at 5% (P5) and at 10% (P10) level of inclusion; two diet…

Total RNA-isolation of abdominal hernia of rats for quantitative real-time reverse transcription (RT) PCR assays.

2007

Abstract Increasing complications in incisional hernia surgery call for novel treatments. A gene expression analysis of injured tissues displays important parameters for tissue regeneration. Until today, no reliable method has been described for a quantitative gene expression analysis of hernia tissues. In this work, a protocol is described for the isolation of DNA‐free total RNA of incisional hernias for the first time. Moreover, real‐time RT PCR assays for collagen type I and III and TGF‐β1 are demonstrated for relative gene expression analyses. Both methods enable relative gene expression analyses of hernia tissues for the first time.

Determination of phenolic antioxidants additives in industrial wastewater from polypropylene production using solid phase extraction with high-perfor…

2019

Abstract This paper describes a new method for the effective extraction of the residues of five synthetic phenolic antioxidants (AOs): Ditertbutylphenol (DTF), Irganox 1010, Irganox 1076, Ethanox 330 and Cyanox 1790, from industrial water produced during the polypropylene (PP) deodorization process. In the deordorization process, PP is stored in a column for an average time of four hours and exposed to nitrogen and water vapor to remove inflammable compounds which may generate atypical odors in the PP. The samples of interest were taken in the desorber, followed by cleansing and pre-concentration using modified styrene divinylbenzene polymer cartridges. Liquid chromatography was performed w…

Outcomes with intracytoplasmic sperm injection of cryopreserved sperm from men with spinal cord injury

2013

Erectile dysfunction, ejaculatory dysfunction and poor semen quality are the main causes of infertility in men with spinal cord injury (SCI). Different sperm retrieval techniques such as penile vibratory stimulation (PVS), electro-ejaculation (EEJ) or surgical sperm retrieval (SSR) associated or not with sperm cryopreservation can be offered to these patients to preserve their fertility. If fatherhood cannot be achieved naturally, assisted reproductive techniques can be offered to these patients using either fresh or frozen/thawed sperm. The aim of the study was to report in SCI patients from Dijon (Burgundy) and in the literature, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) outcomes using froz…

An overview of incremental feature extraction methods based on linear subspaces

2018

Abstract With the massive explosion of machine learning in our day-to-day life, incremental and adaptive learning has become a major topic, crucial to keep up-to-date and improve classification models and their corresponding feature extraction processes. This paper presents a categorized overview of incremental feature extraction based on linear subspace methods which aim at incorporating new information to the already acquired knowledge without accessing previous data. Specifically, this paper focuses on those linear dimensionality reduction methods with orthogonal matrix constraints based on global loss function, due to the extensive use of their batch approaches versus other linear alter…

Some Experiments in Supervised Pattern Recognition with Incomplete Training Samples

2002

This paper presents some ideas about automatic procedures to implement a system with the capability of detecting patterns arising from classes not represented in the training sample. The procedure aims at incorporating automatically to the training sample the necessary information about the new class for correctly recognizing patterns from this class in future classification tasks. The Nearest Neighbor rule is employed as the central classifier and several techniques are added to cope with the peril of incorporating noisy data to the training sample. Experimental results with real data confirm the benefits of the proposed procedure.

Flexible pattern discovery with (extended) disjunctive logic programming

2005

The post-genomic era showed up a wide range of new challenging issues for the areas of knowledge discovery and intelligent information management. Among them, the discovery of complex pattern repetitions in string databases plays an important role, specifically in those contexts where even what are to be considered the interesting pattern classes is unknown. This paper provides a contribution in this precise setting, proposing a novel approach, based on disjunctive logic programming extended with several advanced features, for discovering interesting pattern classes from a given data set.

Text Extraction from Scrolling News Tickers

2020

While a lot of work exists on text or keyword extraction from videos, not a lot can be found on the exact problem of extracting continuous text from scrolling tickers. In this work a novel Tesseract OCR based pipeline is proposed for location and continuous text extraction from scrolling tickers in videos. The solution worked faster than real time, and achieved a character accuracy of 97.3% on 45 min of manually transcribed 360p videos of popular Latvian news shows.
