Talis pater, talis filius: the role of discursive strategies, thematic narratives and ideology in Cosa Nostra

The discursive analysis of criminal organizations’ family dynamics and ideological devices may provide important insights into the inner functioning of these groups. In this article, we describe and analyze a specific set of discursive strategies and the thematic narratives emerging from a TV interview with Giuseppe Riina, a member of Cosa Nostra and the son of one of the most important mafia bosses. Our analyses demonstrate the existence of recurring ideological devices such as reductionism, amoralism, familism, verticalism, normalism, victimism and religious relativism. Another Approach for Redundancy Resolution of a 7 DOF Robotic Arm

In this paper we have presented a method to solve the inverse kinematics problem of a redundant robotic arm with seven degrees of freedom and a human like workspace based on mathematical equations, Fuzzy Logic implementation and Simulink models. For better visualization of the kinematics simulation a CAD model that mimics the real robotic arm was created into SolidWorks® and then the CAD parts were converted into SimMechanics model.

This paper focuses on modeling resolving and simulations of the inverse kinematics of an anthropomorphic redundant robotic structure with seven degrees of freedom and a workspace similar to human arm. Also the kinematical model and the kinematics equations of the robotic arm are presented. A method of resolving the redundancy of seven degrees of freedom robotic arm is presented using Fuzzy Logic toolbox from MATLAB®.
On the existence of at least a solution for functional integral equations via measure of noncompactness

In this article, we use fixed-point methods and measure of noncompactness theory to focus on the problem of establishing the existence of at least a solution for the following functional integral equation ¶ \[u(t)=g(t,u(t))+\int_{0}^{t}G(t,s,u(s))\,ds,\quad t\in{[0,+\infty[},\] in the space of all bounded and continuous real functions on $\mathbb{R}_{+}$ , under suitable assumptions on $g$ and $G$ . Also, we establish an extension of Darbo’s fixed-point theorem and discuss some consequences.

Abstract Artificial temporal signaling systems, which mimic living out‐of‐equilibrium conditions, have made large progress. However, systems programmed by enzymatic reaction networks in multicomponent and unknown environments, and using biocompatible components remain a challenge. Herein, we demonstrate an approach to program temporal pH signals by enzymatic logic gates. They are realized by an enzymatic disaccharide‐to‐monosaccharide‐to‐sugar acid reaction cascade catalyzed by two metabolic chains: invertase‐glucose oxidase and β‐galactosidase‐glucose oxidase, respectively. AbstractA spatial Markov-chain model is formulated for the progression of skin cancer. The model is based on the division of the computational domain into nodal points, that can be in a binary state: either in ‘cancer state’ or in ‘non-cancer state’. The model assigns probabilities for the non-reversible transition from ‘non-cancer’ state to the ‘cancer state’ that depend on the states of the neighbouring nodes. The likelihood of transition further depends on the life burden intensity of the UV-rays that the skin is exposed to. [EN] The generalized directed rural postman problem is an arc routing problem with many interesting real-life applications, such as routing for meter reading. In this application, a vehicle with a receiver travels through a series of neighborhoods. If the vehicle gets closer than a certain distance to a meter, the receiver is able to record the gas, water, or electricity consumption. Therefore, the vehicle does not need to traverse every street, but only a few, to get close enough to each meter. We study an extension of this problem in which a fleet of vehicles is available.
