Noncovalent Functionalization and Passivation of Black Phosphorus with Optimized Perylene Diimides for Hybrid Field Effect Transistors

2020

Amongst the different existing methods to passivate black phosphorus (BP) from environmental degradation, the noncovalent functionalization with perylene diimides (PDI) has been postulated as one of the most promising routes because it allows preserving its electronic properties. This work describes the noncovalent functionalization and outstanding environmental protection of BP with tailor made PDI having peri-amide aromatic side chains, which include phenyl and naphthyl groups, exhibiting a significantly increased molecule-BP interaction. These results are rationalized by density functional theory (DFT) calculations showing that the adsorption energies are mainly governed by van der Waals…

Design of Carbon Dots Photoluminescence through Organo-Functional Silane Grafting for Solid-State Emitting Devices

2017

AbstractAdvanced optical applications of fluorescent carbon dots (C-dots) require highly integrated host-guest solid-state materials with a careful design of C-dots – matrix interface to control the optical response. We have developed a new synthesis based on the grafting of an organo-functional silane (3-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, GPTMS) on amino-functionalized C-dots, which enables the fabrication of highly fluorescent organosilica-based hybrid organic-inorganic films through sol-gel process. The GPTMS grafting onto C-dots has been achieved via an epoxy–amine reaction under controlled conditions. Besides providing an efficient strategy to embed C-dots into a hybrid solid-state mat…

Surface modification of all-inorganic lead halide perovskite nanocrystals

2021

Abstract Newly emerged all-inorganic lead halide perovskite nanocrystals have shown unprecedented optical properties for a variety of display applications. Their superior optical properties over traditional semiconductor nanocrystals have opened a new paradigm in luminescent materials research. Because of their defect tolerance, the photoluminescent quantum yield of lead halide perovskite nanocrystals can reach near-unity. However, the ionic character of these nanocrystals causes extreme lability, which deteriorates its structural and optical properties. Moreover, the binding ability of surface ligands are quite weak and thus easily desorb during conventional purification techniques. Despit…

Photoluminescence of Point Defects in Silicon Dioxide by Femtosecond Laser Exposure

2021

The nature of the radiation-induced point defects in amorphous silica is investigated through online photoluminescence (PL) under high intensity ultrashort laser pulses. Using 1030 nm femtosecond laser pulses with a repetition rate of 1 kHz, it is possible to study the induced color centers through their PL signatures monitored during the laser exposure. Their generation is driven by the nonlinear absorption of the light related to the high pulse peak powers provided by femtosecond laser, allowing to probe the optical properties of the laser exposed region. The experiment is conducted as a function of the laser pulse power in samples with different OH contents. The results highlight the dif…

Solution-processable green phosphorescent iridium(III) complexes bearing 3,3,3-triphenylpropionic acid fragment for use in OLEDs

2018

New solution-processable materials based on well-known green iridium(III) heteroleptic complexes (ppy) 2 Ir(acac) and (ppy) 2 Ir(pic) were acquired by chemical modification of ppy ligand with functionable hydroxyl groups and subsequent esterification with 3,3,3-triphenylpropionic acid fragment. Photoluminescence quantum efficiencies up to 0.90 were measured for the compounds in solution. Emission characteristics in pure solid films and different guest-host systems with hole transporting materials were investigated. Green light emitting OLEDs (organic light emitting devices) was prepared and characterized.

The effect of extracellular matrix proteins on the cellular response of HUVECS and HOBS after covalent immobilization onto titanium

2014

Biomimetic surface modifications are regarded as promising approach to stimulate cellular behavior at the interface of implant materials. Aim of the study was an evaluation of the cellular response of human umbilical cord cells (HUVECS) and human osteoblasts (HOBS) on titanium covalently coated with the extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins fibrinogen, collagen, laminin, and osteopontin. For the surface modification, titanium discs were first amino-functionalized by plasma polymerization of allylamine. The ECM protein conjugation was performed using the linker molecule α, ω-bis-N-hydroxysuccinimide polyethylene glycol (Di-NHS linker). For surface characterization, infrared spectroscopy and fl…

Blend scaffolds with polyaspartamide/polyester structure fabricated via TIPS and their RGDC functionalization to promote osteoblast adhesion and prol…

2019

Target of this work was to prepare a RGDC functionalized hybrid biomaterial via TIPS technique to achieve a more efficient control of osteoblast adhesion and diffusion on the three-dimensional (3D) scaffolds. Starting from a crystalline poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA) and an amorphous alpha,beta-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl) (2-aminoethylcarbamate)-d,l-aspartamide-graft-polylactic acid (PHEA-EDA-g-PLA) copolymer, blend scaffolds were characterized by an appropriate porosity and pore interconnection. The PHEA-EDA-PLA interpenetration with PLLA improved hydrolytic susceptibility of hybrid scaffolds. The presence of free amino groups on scaffolds allowed to tether the cyclic RGD peptide (RGDC) via Michael…

Blends of nylon 6 with a polyethylene functionalized by photooxidation

1990

An easy and cheap method to prepare functionalized polyethylene is reported in which polyethylene is photooxidized and then melt-blended with nylon. Structural, rheological, and mechanical modifications indicate that carbonyl, formed during photooxidation, and amine groups react giving rise to copolymers which stabilize the blends. Photooxidized polyethylene from waste could be very effective in preparing polyethylene/polyamide blends with improved properties. This new approach improves over current methods in which compatibilization of polyolefines and polyamides is mostly performed by reacting functionalized polyolefines with polyamides in molten state. The functionalization is achieved b…

Material valorisation of amorphous polylactide. Influence of thermo-mechanical degradation on the morphology, segmental dynamics, thermal and mechani…

2012

[EN] This paper reports the effects of multiple mechanical recycling on the structure and properties of amorphous polylactide (PLA). The influence of the thermo-mechanical degradation induced by means of five successive injection cycles was initially addressed in terms of macroscopic mechanical properties and surface modification. A deeper inspection on the structure and morphology of PLA was associated to the thermal properties and viscoelastic behaviour. Although FT-IR analysis did not show significant changes in functional groups, a remarkable reduction in molar mass was found by viscometry. PLA remained amorphous throughout the reprocessing cycles, but the occurrence of a cold-crystalli…
