Additional file 4 of Co-administration of human MSC overexpressing HIF-1 increases human CD34+ cell engraftment in vivo
2021
Additional file 4. Figure S3. Analysis of human hematopoietic engraftment in spleen. Human hematopoietic engraftment was evaluated by flow cytometry after xenotrasplantation in NOD/SCID mice. The percentage of human CD45+ cells (donor chimerism) was analyzed in total spleen samples 4 weeks after transplantation. Mice were transplanted intravenously with CD34+ cells alone or co-transplanted with MSC WT or HIF-MSC, that were administered in the right femur. Data are represented as mean of 8 experiments for mice transplanted with CD34+ cells alone, 13 experiments for mice co-transplanted with CD34+ cells and WT MSC and 15 experiments for mice transplanted with CD34+ cells and HIF-MSC. p:n.s me…
Establishing a New ECMO Referral Center Using an ICU-Based Approach: A Feasibility and Safety Study
2022
Background: A high-volume center with a multidisciplinary team is regarded as the optimal place for providing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). We hypothesize that an ECMO center can also be successfully created and subsequently developed entirely by intensivists in a mid-size mixed intensive care unit (ICU). Methods: A model was created for setting up a new ECMO referral center within the structure of an existing mixed ICU in a tertiary hospital. A retrospective analysis was carried out of the first 33 patients treated in the initial period of the center’s activity, from mid 2018 to the end of 2020. Results: An ECMO center was established and developed entirely based on the resou…
Hepatocyte transplantation, a step forward?
2019
Hepatocyte transplantation emerged a few decades ago as a possible strategy to overcome some of the limitations of liver transplantation, among them the availability of organ donors and the functional quality of grafts. Nowadays, allogenic cell transplantation is still to be confirmed as a viable therapeutic option for patients with hereditary metabolic liver diseases. Although we have now overseen 5 decades of basic and animal research in the field, the number of successfully treated patients remains low. Limitations in cell engraftment and selective proliferation of transplanted cells remain a constraint to the generalized use of this therapeutic approach.
Resonancia nuclear magnética en roturas del ligamento cruzado anterior : sensibilidad y concordancia con hallazgos artroscópicos
2018
To estimate the sensitivity of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a diagnostic test in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, as well as its correlation with arthroscopic findings. Methods. Retrospective analysis of 270 patients who underwent ACL reconstruction surgery in our health department between 2007 and 2017. ACL injuries were diagnosed by radiologists specialized in musculoskeletal pathology, while the correlation between radiological and arthroscopic findings was determined through statistical analysis. Results. The sensitivity of the MRI regarding diagnosis of ACL injuries was 88.5%. In addition, the correlation between radiologic and arthroscopic findings was 73.3%. In 71% o…

Association between oral HSV-1 and survival in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplanted patients
2009
Introduction: This study was designed to investigate the effect of oral HSV-1 shedding on the survival of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplanted (allo-HSCT) patients. Methods: One hundred nineteen allo-HSCT patients were included in the study and divided in three groups: before transplant, 100 days after transplant and 1 year of allo-HSCT. Healthy volunteers matched by age and gender were also selected. Oral swabs were performed and the nested PCR was used to detect HSV-1 presence in the oral mucosa. In statistical analysis, chi-square test was used to test the distribution of HSV1 shedding among the three groups. Time to death after allo-HSCT was displayed by means of the Kaplan-M…
