Food-attraction conditioning in the snail, Helix pomatia

1995

Adult pulmonate snails (Helix pomatia) were released equidistant between two types of food, carrot and potato, respectively. Naive snails moved in different directions and did not locate either food above chance, although both foods were readily eaten upon direct contact. After a single carrot feeding episode, 75% of the carrot-fed snails moved directly towards the carrot and ate it. Conversely, potato-fed snails located the potato in 67% of the cases. Snails that were fed apple or lettuce behaved like naive animals, with the majority of animals (75% in both cases) locating neither the carrot nor the potato. The ability of snails to locate this particular food after a single feeding episode…

A singleFKShomologue inYarrowia lipolyticais essential for viability

2002

The synthesis of β-1,3-glucan, the structural component of the yeast cell wall which gives shape to the cell, occurs at the plasma membrane and is the result of the activity of at least a two-component complex. Fks1p is the catalytic subunit directly responsible for the synthesis of β-1,3-glucan, whilst the second subunit, Rho1p, has a GTP-dependent regulatory role. FKS1 has been characterized in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, where its function is at least partially redundant with that of FKS2/GSC2. FKS homologues have also been identified in several other fungal species, including Candida albicans, Schizosaccharomyces pombe, Aspergillus nidulans, Cryptococcus neoformans and Paracoccidiodes bra…

Genome-wide chromosomal association of Upf1 is linked to Pol II transcription in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

2021

AbstractAlthough the RNA helicase Upf1 has hitherto been examined mostly in relation to its cytoplasmic role in nonsense mediated mRNA decay (NMD), here we report high-throughput ChIP data indicating genome-wide association of Upf1 with active genes in Schizosaccharomyces pombe. This association is RNase sensitive and it correlates with Pol II transcription and mRNA expression levels. While changes in Pol II occupancy were detected at only some genes in a Upf1-deficient (upf1Δ) strain, there is an increased Ser2 Pol II signal at all highly transcribed genes examined by ChIP-qPCR. Furthermore, upf1Δ cells are hypersensitive to the transcription elongation inhibitor 6-azauracil and display Po…

Variabilité de la température entre 1951 et 2014 en Allemagne associée à l’évolution de la floraison des pommiers.

2018

Apple tree bloom onset in Germany has advanced by 2 days/decade in 1951-2014 and by 3 days/decade in 1988-2014, behaving similarly in respect to its evolution since 1951 and its sensitivity to temperature to other species’ phenological spring phases. The evolution however was not linear; by conducting a split moving-window dissimilarity analysis (SMWDA) we were able to detect the “break-period” 1987-1989 which coincides with a breakpoint that has been identified in the phases of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). We observed distinct spatial patterns with apple bloom advancing from southwest to northeast and, most interestingly, a longitudinal gradient in the trend of apple bloom onset r…

Glutathione metabolism and heavy metal detoxification in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

1991

Sixty glutathione-deficient mutants (gsh −) of Schizosaccharomyces pombe have been isolated by their resistance towards the mutagen N-methyl-N′-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) and their sensitivity to the heavy metal Cadmium (Cd). fifty-three mutants show glutathione contents of less than 5% compared with the wild-type. The residual glutathione contents correlate with the resistance to MNNG, with the sensitivity to Cd and with the growth rate in minimal medium. The gsh −, Cd-sensitive (Cd s) mutants also show sensitivity to other heavy metals. Wild-type strains, but not the gsh − mutants, are able to excrete the heavy metal, very likely as a sulfide-containing compound. This inability of th…

O-Ribosyl-phosphate purine as a constant modified nucleotide located at position 64 in cytoplasmic initiator tRNAsMetof yeasts

1991

The unknown modified nucleotide G*, isolated from both Schizosaccharomyces pombe and Torulopsis utilis initiator tRNAs(Met), has been identified as an O-ribosyl-(1"----2')-guanosine-5"-phosphate, called Gr(p), by means of HPLC, UV-absorption, mass spectrometry and periodate oxidation procedures. By comparison with the previously published structure of Ar(p) isolated from Saccharomyces cerevisiae initiator tRNA(Met), the (1"----2')-glycosidic bond in Gr(p) has been postulated to have a beta-spatial conformation. The modified nucleotide Gr(p) is located at position 64 in the tRNA(Met) molecules, i.e. at the same position as Ar(p). Since we have also characterized Gr(p) in Candida albicans ini…

ALIGNEMENT UNI ET TRIDIMENSIONNEL DE MOLÉCULES PAR IMPULSION LASER FEMTOSECONDE

2007

This thesis is devoted to the study of the alignment of linear and asymmetric top molecules generated by an intense laser pulse. In the case of short pulses with respect to molecular rotation, periodic alignment appears in field-free conditions after the extinction of the field. We study theoretically and experimentally the effects of intensity, temperature and polarization of the electric field on produced alignment. If the field is linearly polarized, the interaction leads to the alignment of the most polarizable axis of the molecule. If the field is elliptically polarized, the pulse can generate a simultaneous alignment of the three principal axes of inertia of an asymmetric top molecule…

Autonomia dorosłych osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną - perspektywa porównawcza

2022

METHOD OF ANALYSIS FOR POPULATION LIMITATION OF THE LEPIDOPTERA PEST IN FRUITERS (LEPIDOPTERA: TORTRICIDAE) IN SIBIEL VILLAGE, SIBIU CITY IN CONDITIO…

2014

In the present work is described an experiment in Sibiel, made in an apple orchard of 1,50 ha surface, which was kept under observation in order to combat the Cydia pomonella L. pest. It was used a pheromone trap as a combat method, for the application of the plant treatments in time.
