Les Populaires et le parlement italien (1919-1924)

2019

On 18 January 1919, Luigi Sturzo (Caltagirone 1871- Rome 1959), the Italian priest and politician, a Fascist dissident and fervent Europeanist, founded the Italian Popular Party (PPI) by pronouncing his Appello ai liberi e forti. The new PPI marked the entrance of Catholics to the country’s political life. Indeed, after the Italian unification, Catholics had not been able to vote for the political elections because of a provision issued by Pope Pius IX in 1874, the so-called non expedit, which had forbidden them from participating in the political elections of the Kingdom of Italy. In the elections of 16 November 1919 - after the reform that led to the transition from the uninominal elector…

Submitting “Alternative Facts” to Debate: A Weberian Perspective on Post-truth Politics

2018

'Oxford Dictionaries' chose “post-truth” as the “Word of the Year 2016”, while the association of German linguists (Gesellschaft für deutsche Sprache) did the same for '“postfaktische Politik'”. “Alternative facts”, launched by Kellyanne Conway concerning the attendance at Donald Trump’s inaugural, was a third variant in this cluster. In this article, I shall discuss Max Weber’s parliamentary perspective on the critique of given facts and of the powers of science in relation to the debates around post-truth politics. A critical assessment of Leo Strauss’s critique of Weber as a nihilist and relativist introduces the problematic. One aim of the article is to illustrate how even trivial sloga…

Politiskās komunikācijas lomas analīze Eiropas Parlamenta vēlēšanās.

2016

2022

This essay highlight limits of contitutional reform reducing parlamentary members. At first sight this appear like an easy and bounded reform: but really it is not, the devaluation of political representation is at stake, one of the highest values of any constitutional system. To conclude, politics seems to lose value and it is important to avoid a devaluation of political representation too.

The Coronation Parliament of John III Sobieski in French-Language Reports Sent to London

2021

The coronation parliament in the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was always an exceptional event not only for the newly elected monarch but also for diplomats from foreign courts who reported about its proceedings. In their reports, they tried to provide as much information as possible, not only political but also moral, social, and related to the ceremony. Of course, such material needs careful analysis, as the diplomats, othen unfamiliar with the reality of the Polish-Lithuanian state, misrepresented the facts or presented them in a wrong context. The analysed manuscript accounts from the coronation parliament of John III Sobieski probably played the role of an additional source of …
