Izziņas prasmju sekmēšana rīta pastaigas laikā pirmsskolas izglītības 3.posmā
2022
Katrs no…
Unravelling the modus operandi of phytosiderophores during zinc uptake in rice: the importance of geochemical gradients and accurate stability consta…
2020
Abstract Micronutrient deficiencies threaten global food production. Attempts to biofortify crops rely on a clear understanding of micronutrient uptake processes. Zinc deficiency in rice is a serious problem. One of the pathways proposed for the transfer of zinc from soils into rice plants involves deoxymugineic acid (DMA), a phytosiderophore. The idea that phytosiderophores play a wider role in nutrition of Poaceae beyond iron is well established. However, key mechanistic details of the DMA-assisted zinc uptake pathway in rice remain uncertain. In particular, questions surround the form in which zinc from DMA is taken up [i.e. as free aqueous Zn(II) or as Zn(II)–DMA complexes] and the role…

Population structure and reticulate evolution of Saccharomyces eubayanus and its lager-brewing hybrids
2014
Reticulate evolution can be a major driver of diversification into new niches, especially in disturbed habitats and at the edges of ranges. Industrial fermentation strains of yeast provide a window into these processes, but progress has been hampered by a limited understanding of the natural diversity and distribution of Saccharomyces species and populations. For example, lager beer is brewed with Saccharomyces pastorianus, an alloploid hybrid of S. cerevisiae and S. eubayanus, a species only recently discovered in Patagonia, Argentina. Here, we report that genetically diverse strains of S. eubayanus are readily isolated from Patagonia, demonstrating that the species is well established the…
Beneficial effects of pasta during pregnancy: The positive effects of mediterranean diet
2018
Pregnancy is a physiological state during which the woman's body undergoes profound modifications. During this time, every woman must be nourished in such a way as to maintain herself in good health and at the same time allow the fetal tissues to form and develop in the best way. Proper nutrition is one of the fundamental prerequisites for the normal evolution of both pregnancy and fetal growth: the quantity and quality of food and drinks must be scrupulously controlled. Contrariwise, it is important to avoid the excess calories and macronutrients. In fact, during pregnancy, it may be just as harmful as their shortage, especially in overweight and obese women, for which the risk of miscarri…
Metabolic flux understanding of Pichia pastoris grown on heterogenous culture media
2014
[EN] Within the emergent field of Systems Biology, mathematical models obtained from physical chemical laws (the so-called first principles-based models) of microbial systems are employed to discern the principles that govern cellular behaviour and achieve a predictive understanding of cellular functions. The reliance on this biochemical knowledge has the drawback that some of the assumptions (specific kinetics of the reaction system, unknown dynamics and values of the model parameters) may not be valid for all the metabolic possible states of the network. In this uncertainty context, the combined use of fundamental knowledge and data measured in the fermentation that describe the behaviour…

Yeast expression of the cytokine receptor domain of the soluble interleukin-6 receptor
1996
Abstract The complex of the soluble interleukin-6 receptor (sIL-6R) and IL-6 (IL-6) is a potent agonist on cells expressing the signal transducing protein gp130. In contrast, IL-6 alone only stimulates cells which express a membrane bound form of the IL-6R and gp130. The natural occurring sIL-6R is generated by shedding of the membrane receptor and to a lesser extend by alternative splicing. We have inserted the coding sequence of the 323 amino acid residues of the human sIL-6R into an expression/secretion vector suitable for the methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris . We obtained, however, no detectable expression and secretion of the recombinant protein. When we used only the coding sequen…
