Immobilisation of humic substances

Attempts were made to immobilise humic substances (HS) by grafting them onto different carriers (styrene-divinylbenzene copolymers, cellulose and silica) as well as by their crosslinking with formaldehyde. Reaction with Merrifield resin was used for the immobilisation of HS, coupling by means of water-soluble carbodiimides to carriers containing amino-groups. Crosslinking of HS with formaldehyde (also in presence of other substances able to enter polycondensation reactions with formaldehyde) was shown to be an efficient method for their insolubilisation. Bei der Schmelzkondensation von 2.4.6-Tri(hydroxymethyl)-phenol entsteht ein raumlich gebautes Polykondensat, das uber Dimethylenatherbrucken verknupfte Phenolkerne enthalt. Dies kann durch die quantitative Bestimmung der bei der Polykondensation erhaltenen Abspaltungsprodukte gezeigt werden; ferner durch die Bromanalyse der Hydrolyseprodukte aus der quantitativ verfolgten Hydrolyse der Polykondensate mit gasformigem HBr. Setzt man die ublichen Atomabstande und Bindungswinkel in Rechung, so sollten in dem raumlich gebauten Netzwerk Dreikern-, Vierkern-, Funfkern-, Sechskern- und hohere Kernringe vorkommen konnen. Water soluble polyamides with iminoethylene and oxyethylene units in the main chain were obtained by condensation polymerization of diethylenetriamine and triethylenetetramine with suitable dimethylesters containing two or three oxyethylene units. The molecular weights were in the range of Mn = 5000–7000. By potentiometric and conductometric titration only 80–85% of the expected amount of basic groups was found which was probably caused by branching. Über die polykondensation von diäthylphosphit mit aliphastischen diolen

Die Umesterungsreaktion von Diathylphosphit mit linearen Diolen HO–(CH2)x–OH (x = 2–6 und 8) wurde untersucht. Ihre Bilanz zeigte, das neben der angestrebten Umesterungsreaktion in teilweise sehr erheblichem Umfang auch Atherstrukturen gebildet werden. Diese bis jetzt in diesem Zusammenhang noch nicht beschriebene Reaktion verlauft sehr wahrscheinlich im Sinn einer direkten Alkylierung der alkoholischen OH-Gruppen durch die Phosphitestergruppen, denn sie erfordert keinen Katalysator. In its crystal structure the one-dimensional coordination polymer [Ag4(O2C(CF2)2CF3)4(TMP)3]n (1) (TMP = 2,3,5,6-tetramethylpyrazine) adopts a zig-zag arrangement in which pairs of silver(I) centres bridged by two fluorocarboxylate ligands are linked alternately via one or two neutral TMP ligands. Bleomycin, an Antibiotic That Removes Thymine from Double-Stranded DNA

Publisher Summary This chapter reviews that bleomycins are members of a new class of DNA-modifying agents, the quasi-enzymes. In in vitro systems, bleomycin first removes thymines from native DNA by hydrolysis of the N-glycosidic bonds without modifying the deoxyribose moiety. In a second step, single-strand scissions occur at the sites of the nonglycosidic deoxyribose moieties, resulting in the formation of 3'-OH and 5'-P termini. It is suggested that bleomycin is bound to DNA by interaction of the positively charged terminal amine moiety with the negatively charged phosphate group in DNA; intercalation seems to be involved in binding.
