Electric-field-induced Raman scattering in GaAs: Franz-Keldysh oscillations

We have studied the influence of strong electric fields on the Raman scattering intensity from LO phonons in GaAs (100) at room temperature using laser excitation energies above the fundamental ${\mathit{E}}_{0}$ gap. Striking oscillations are found in the scattering intensity for configurations where either the deformation potential or Fr\"ohlich electron-phonon interaction contribute. The oscillations in the deformation-potential-mediated scattering intensity can be related to Franz-Keldysh oscillations derived from the ${\mathit{E}}_{0}$ gap, whereas a more complicated mechanism has to be invoked for processes where Fr\"ohlich interaction is responsible.

The Painted Silk Panels of Palazzo Barberini at Rome. The Scientific Investigation and Preservation Challenge

Abstract This paper reports the study carried out on the 18th century painted silk panels that cover the walls of the so called Salotto delle sete dipinte in Palazzo Barberini at Rome on the occasion of the conservation work started in 2007. Microscope and spectroscopy investigations were performed in order to study the materials and the realization techniques of the painted silk panels and to evaluate the conservation conditions. Moreover ageing tests were performed in order to evaluate the stability of the consolidant/protective product used for the silk panels.

Aging of MCM41, MSU-H and MSU-F mesoporous systems investigated through the Raman spectroscopy

Here we report an experimental investigation, based on the Raman spectroscopy, on the aging of some mesoporous silica based systems. In details, we studied the aging in air of the MCM41, the MSU-H and the MSU-F materials by acquiring the Raman spectra of as received and of mechanically pressed, at 0.2 and 0.45 GPa, powders. Our data evidenced that the starting powders of the MCM41 and of the MSU-H undergo structural modification when they are exposed to the ambient atmosphere, such modification consisting in the decrease of the D2 Raman band (originated by the three member rings). Surface-Enhanced Raman Study of the Interactions between Tripodal Cationic Polyamines and Polynucleotides

Raman and surface-enhanced Raman spectra of new DNA/RNA-binding compounds consisting of three imidazole (Im) and three pyridine (Py) rings connected by tripodal polyaminomethylene linkages were obtained by the near-infrared excitation at 1064 nm. Sediments carried in suspension represent a fundamental part of fluvial transport. Nonetheless, largely because of technical problems, they have been hitherto widely neglected in provenance studies. Inelastic neutron and low-frequency Raman scattering in a niobium-phosphate glass for Raman gain applications

Abstract We present measurements of the vibrational spectrum of a binary niobium-phosphate glass in the THz frequency range using inelastic neutron and Raman scattering. The spectra of these glasses show a low-frequency enhancement of the vibrational density of states (“boson peak”). Using a recently developed theory of vibrational excitations in disordered solids we are able to reconcile the measured neutron and Raman spectra using fluctuating elastic and Pockels constants as a model concept. As the spontaneous Raman susceptibility is a key parameter for Raman amplification our results suggest a significant gain profile for application of niobium-phosphate glasses in Raman amplifiers.

Variability of the Si-O-Si angle in amorphous-SiO2 probed by electron paramagnetic resonance and Raman spectroscopy

We report an experimental investigation by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and Raman spectroscopy on a variety of amorphous silicon dioxide materials. Our study by EPR have permitted us to point out that the splitting of the primary hyperfine doublet of the Eγ′ center shows a relevant sample-to-sample variability, changing from ∼41.8 to ∼42.6 mT in the set of materials we considered. The parallel study by Raman spectroscopy has enabled us to state that this variability is attributable to the different Si-O-Si angle characterizing the matrices of the different materials. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. Collisional shifting and broadening coefficients for the rovibrational anisotropic S(J) lines of nitrogen studied by inverse Raman spectroscopy

0377-0486; Line shifting and broadening coefficients of the anisotropic S(J) lines (v = 0, J --> v = 1, J + 2) of the nitrogen molecule were measured at room temperature using high-resolution stimulated Raman spectroscopy. A rotational quantum number dependence of the S(J) line shifts was observed. In order to avoid an asymmetry of experimental origin, a suitable theoretical profile was fitted to the experimental lineshapes. Infrared based saliva screening test for COVID‐19

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has resulted in an unprecedented need for diagnostic testing that is critical in controlling the spread of COVID-19. We propose a portable infrared spectrometer with purpose-built transflection accessory for rapid point-of-care detection of COVID-19 markers in saliva. Initially, purified virion particles were characterized with Raman spectroscopy, synchrotron infrared (IR) and AFM-IR.
