Contractile Reserve in Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction.
2022
Background: Diastolic stress echocardiography (SE) is useful for confirming the diagnosis of heart failure with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (HFpEF) when it is uncertain. The aim of this study was to assess the value of new echocardiographic parameters during diastolic SE in patients with dyspnea and suspected HFpEF. Methods: Sixty-two patients with exertional dyspnea and inconclusive rest echocardiography for a diagnosis of HFpEF were enrolled. Exercise SE was performed in all patients. Contractile reserve (LVCR) was assessed by measuring: 1. changes in the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) between rest and peak stress; 2. stress-to-rest ratio of force (force was de…
The association between stress mindset and physical and psychological wellbeing : testing a stress beliefs model in police officers
2020
Objective: Emergency service workers like police officers experience high levels of stress in the course of their regular duties. Holding particular stress mindsets may help to mitigate the deleterious effects of stress and promote wellbeing in workers experiencing regular stress. The study aimed to examine the processes by which stress mindsets relate to health and wellbeing in police officers. A stress beliefs model in which perceived somatic symptoms and coping behaviours mediate effects of stress mindsets on outcomes was tested. Design: Police officers (N = 134) completed an online cross-sectional survey. Main outcome measures: Perceived somatic symptoms, proactive coping behaviours, ph…
Työssäkäyvien vanhempien stressinhallintakeinojen ja vanhemmuustyytyväisyyden väliset yhteydet : onko vanhemmuuden stressin tasolla väliä?
2012
Tutkielmassa tarkasteltiin, onko stressinhallintakeinoilla (tilanteen muuttaminen, mukautuminen, uudelleenarviointi, oireiden vähentäminen ja välttely) yhteyttä vanhemmuustyytyväisyyteen ja onko yhteys samanlaista korkean ja matalan vanhemmuuden stressin tilanteessa. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin myös, eroavatko paljon ja vähän vanhemmuuden stressiä kokevien käyttämät stressinhallintakeinot toisistaan sekä selvitettiin, millaisia stressinhallintakeinoja käyttävät paljon vanhemmuuden stressiä kokevat vanhemmat. Tutkimuksen aineisto on osa Jyväskylän yliopiston psykologian laitoksen tutkimus- ja kehittämishanketta ”Työn ja perheen yhteensovittamisen hallintastrategiat ja -keinot työhyvinvoinnin…
The impact of copper ions on oxidative stress in garden cress Lepidium sativum
2017
Normal oxygen metabolism is an endogenous source of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The source of ROS are also many environmental factors including heavy metals. In certain concentration range, the presence of ROS is necessary to maintain proper cell function. Thus, cells have many mechanisms, which role is focused on maintaining a constant concentration of ROS. Imbalance between the formation of ROS and action of a protective antioxidant system leads to oxidative stress. This may results with a damage to the structure of proteins, lipids and nucleic acids, which in turn can lead to disturbances in the functioning of the cell and even to the death. The aim of the study was to evaluate the ef…
The Copper-microRNA Pathway Is Integrated with Developmental and Environmental Stress Responses in Arabidopsis thaliana
2021
As an essential nutrient, copper (Cu) scarcity causes a decrease in agricultural production. Cu deficiency responses include the induction of several microRNAs, known as Cu-miRNAs, which are responsible for degrading mRNAs from abundant and dispensable cuproproteins to economize copper when scarce. Cu-miRNAs, such as miR398 and miR408 are conserved, as well as the signal transduction pathway to induce them under Cu deficiency. The Arabidopsis thaliana SQUAMOSA-PROMOTER BINDING PROTEIN-LIKE (SPL) family member SPL7 binds to the cis-regulatory motifs present in the promoter regions of genes expressed under Cu deficiency, including Cu-miRNAs. The expression of several other SPL transcription f…
Resilience of hop (Humulus lupulus L.) to salinity, heat and drought stresses: A mini-review
2022
Over recent years, the cultivation of hops (Humulus lupulus L.) has spread widely in the Mediterranean, also affecting the southern regions of Spain and Italy with a typical semi-arid climate. Several and recent studies have investigated the responses of this species to the main abiotic stresses, which is an aspect of absolute relevance to the knowledge of the adaptive capacity of hops to the growing conditions of a new cultivation environment. Moreover, given the fact that hops’ phytochemical composition is determined primarily by genetic and environmental factors, and that the species is perennial, the lack of knowledge on the effects of abiotic stress could be reflected in subsequent yea…
Teachers' daily physiological stress and positive affect in relation to their general occupational well‐being
2023
Background Teachers' stress, affect and general occupational well-being influence their teaching and their students. However, how teachers' daily physiological stress and positive affect are related in the classroom is unknown. To reduce teachers' stress and enhance their positive affect, it is crucial to understand how occupational well-being relates to stress and affect. Aim The aim of the study was to examine the relationships between teachers' daily physiological stress and positive affect in authentic classroom settings and the roles played by teachers' self-efficacy beliefs, perceptions of school climate and burnout symptoms in daily stress and affect. Sample The sample consisted of 4…
Relationship Between Work Stress, Burnout and Work Engagement of Remote Workers During the Covid-19 Pandemic
2021
Bakalaura darba pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot, vai COVID-19 pandēmijas laikā attālinātā darba veicējiem ar augstāku darba iesaisti būs zemāki darba stresa un izdegšanas rādītāji. Pētījumā piedalījās 57 attālinātā darba veicēji, vecumā no 22 līdz 50 gadiem. No respondentiem 41 sieviete un 16 vīrieši. Pētījumā tika izmantota sekojošas metodes: Darba stresa aptauja (Job Stress Survey, DSN, Spielberger, 1991; adaptāciju latviešu valodā veica J. Maslova, 2006), Maslakas izdegšanas aptauja - Vispārīgā aptauja (Maslach Burnout Inventory –General Survey, MBI –GS,Maslach, Jackson, & Leiter, 1996; Latvijā metodi adaptējusi D. Caune, 2004), Utrehtas iesaiste darbā aptauja (Utrecht Work Engagement Sc…
