Resistance simulations for junctions of SW and MW carbon nanotubes with various metal substrates

Abstract This theoretical study focuses on junctions between the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and contacting metallic elements of a nanocircuit. Numerical simulations on the conductance and resistance of these contacts have been performed using the multiple scattering theory and the effective media cluster approach. Two models for CNT-metal contacts have been considered in this paper: a) first principles “liquid metal” model and b) semi-empirical model of “effective bonds” based on Landauer notions on ballistic conductivity. p42 MAPK phosphorylates 80 kDa MARCKS at Ser-113.

Abstract It is demonstrated here that p42 MAPKinase (p42 MAPK) phosphorylates the M yristoylated A lanine- R ich C - K inase S ubstrate (MARCKS) at Ser-113. In permeabilised Swiss 3T3 cells activation of protein kinase C (PKC) leads to p42 MAPK activation, but only the protein kinase C sites in MARCKS become phosphorylated and not Ser-113. The mitogen platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) elicits the same response. These results demonstrate that while Ser-113 is a substrate for p42 MAPK in vitro and can be phosphorylated in vivo as shown by Taniguchi et al. [(1994) J. Biol. Chem. 269, 18299–18302], its phosphorylation is not subject to acute regulation by p42 MAPK in Swiss 3T3 cells.

UGT1A6 and UGT1A7 expression and enzymatic activities toward the 1-naphthol were analyzed in rat cultured astrocytes following the exposure for 48 h to redox-cycling xenobiotic compounds such as quinones and bipyridinium ions. Evaluation of an automated chromogenic substrate assay for the rapid determination of hirudin in plasma.

Abstract A fully mechanized chromogenic substrate assay method for the rapid and specific determination of recombinant hirudin (r-hirudin) in citrated plasma on clinical chemistry analyzers (Hitachi 911 and Cobas Mira) is described. In a first step, 12 μl sample volume is mixed with the chromogenic substrate. Due to the almost immediate action of hirudin the inhibitory reaction and the cleavage of the substrate is started simultaneously when bovine thrombin is added in excess. This excludes interferences by antithrombin III or heparin cofactor II. The change in absorbance/min is recorded at 405 nm. The measuring range is about 0.2 – 4.0 mg/l r-hirudin on both analyzers. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is associated with lifestyle factors that affect insulin/IGF signaling, of which the insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1) is a key transducer. We investigated expression, localization and pathologic correlations of IRS1 in cancer-uninvolved colonic epithelium, primary CRCs with paired liver metastases and in vitro polarizing Caco2 and HT29 cells. IRS1 mRNA and protein resulted higher, relative to paired mucosa, in adenomas of familial adenomatous polyposis patients and in CRCs that overexpressed c-MYC, ß-catenin, InsRß, and IGF1R. Abstract Neutron-diffraction measurements were used for the first time to investigate the influence of the modification of the graphite substrate potential and of the susbrate symmetry caused by a preadsorbed layer of krypton (Kr). It will be shown that D2 on Kr/graphite presents a new 2D Ising system. The order-disorder transition of this system has been studied.
Imbibition of Femtoliter-Scale DNA-Rich Aqueous Droplets into Porous Nylon Substrates by Molecular Printing

This work presents the first reported imbibition mechanism of femtoliter (fL)-scale droplets produced by microchannel cantilever spotting (μCS) of DNA molecular inks into porous substrates (hydrophilic nylon). Differently from macroscopic or picoliter droplets, the downscaling to the fL-size leads to an imbibition process controlled by the subtle interplay of evaporation, spreading, viscosity, and capillarity, with gravitational forces being quasi-negligible. In particular, the minimization of droplet evaporation, surface tension, and viscosity allows for a reproducible droplet imbibition process.
