Building Bridges for Innovation in Ageing: Synergies between Action Groups of the EIP on AHA.

The Strategic Implementation Plan of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA) proposed six Action Groups. After almost three years of activity, many achievements have been obtained through commitments or collaborative work of the Action Groups. However, they have often worked in silos and, consequently, synergies between Action Groups have been proposed to strengthen the triple win of the EIP on AHA. The paper presents the methodology and current status of the Task Force on EIP on AHA synergies. Synergies are in line with the Action Groups' new Renovated Action Plan (2016-2018) to ensure that their future objectives are coherent and fully connected. The …

Occurrence and risk assessment of mycotoxins, acrylamide, and furan in Latvian beer.

This work reports data on the occurrence of nine mycotoxins and two food processing contaminants - acrylamide and furan - in a total of 100 beers produced in Latvia. Mycotoxins were detected by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with time-of-flight mass spectrometry, acrylamide by HPLC coupled with quadrupole-Orbitrap mass spectrometry, and furan by headspace gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The most frequently occurring mycotoxins were HT-2 and deoxynivalenol (DON), which were detected in 52% and 51% of the analysed samples. Background: Alexithymia is a personality construct characterized by difficulties in verbal emotional expression and a limited ability to use one’s imagination. Evidence of alexithymic characteristics was found in adults suffering from headache, while little is known about children. The aim of this study was to establish the prevalence of alexithymia in two different subgroups of children and adolescents suffering from primary headache. Understanding trends and drivers of urban poverty in American cities

Urban poverty arises from the uneven distribution of poor populations across neighborhoods of a city. We study the trend and drivers of urban poverty across American cities over the last 40 years. To do so, we resort to a family of urban poverty indices that account for features of incidence, distribution, and segregation of poverty across census tracts. Compared to the universally-adopted concentrated poverty index, these measures have a solid normative background. We use tract-level data to assess the extent to which demographics, housing, education, employment, and income distribution affect levels and changes in urban poverty. Background: Surgical treatment of anal fistulas is still a challenge. The aims of this study were to evaluate the adoption and healing rates for the different surgical techniques used in Italy over the past 15 years. Methods: This was a multicenter retrospective observational study of patients affected by simple and complex anal fistulas of cryptoglandular origin who were surgically treated in the period 2003–2017. I n their Focus article, Chen, Arendt-Nielsen, and Plaghki [8] provide a comprehensive review of the . literature o~ human evoked potentials that ~re elicited by noxious heat, usually generated by Infrared laser stimulators. From this review, we identified four issues that may deserve a comment: (1) Standardize the experiment or its scientific report? (2) Nociception and pain. (3) What do laser-evoked potentials (LEPs) really measure? (4) Rational clinical use. For the sake of brevity, we do not attempt to quote all relevant literature; a complete literature survey can be found in a recent review paper by Bromm and Lorenz [4].

This pilot observational prospective study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of a treatment with conditional autologous serum (ACS) in patients with severe chronic pain and grade I-III osteoarthritis and to describe its cytokine content. El trabajo de campo al que se refiere la presente comunicación, se puede considerar como la fase inicial del proyecto de levantamiento del templo G de Selinunte, ya que si bien se han podido tomar muchos datos del mismo durante la campaña de verano del 2005, quedan algunas zonas donde no ha sido posible acceder, por lo que será preciso completar la información conforme se vaya avanzando en el modelo. La dificultad mayor vendrá con la definición del propio modelo 3D, labor de investigación avanzada ya que actualmente no existen técnicas ni metodologías de referencia a nivel mundial en el uso de escaners láser 3d aplicados al campo de la arquitectura.
